Anybody knows the shield is used in area air defence. So the best way to say if it is equivalent to US' 70-80 tech is to compare the air defence capabilities. 170 destroyer's air defence system is based on China developed HQ-9 missile. Only you know its performance then you can precisely say which year's US tech its equivalent.

live to serve ya...

NO. 170 "AEGIS" DESTROYER

On April 29 the PLAN launched destroyer No. 170, the first of two new destroyers that will incorporate a large phased-array radar similar to the U.S. AEGIS radar system. Using the same stealthy hull and engine configuration of the No. 168 class, this destroyer is armed with forty-eight new type vertical-launched anti-aircraft missiles of either Russian or Chinese origin. As such they will be the first dedicated long range air defense ships for the PLAN. The radar configuration offers at least the potential that this class of destroyer may eventually perform anti-missile missions. This is a capability that Taiwan has sought to obtain via U.S. AEGIS destroyers.

according to the publication, this was back in 2003.

The first US Navy Phalanx was deployed onboard the USS Coral Sea in 1980, does anyone know the date of the first Chinese CWIS deployement. I doubt that they had it back in the 80's chinatea.

you think they did not already look into that?

It is designed with stealth in mind, though not as advanced as western naval technology I would say it's fair to assume it will perform competently and certainly will be no walkover.

. We (US) has had the Aegis since the 70's, and the Chinese come up with one of thiers now? Thirty years after the US. They musta had to steal a lot.
Oh, you are a arrogant american, some americans like to say ' you stolen our technology , it seems everything in the world were invented by american. they forget the american history is only severy hundreds years.
there were many great discover and invention on aspect of every science before the US founded. This great science discover belongs to whole world and human. according to your logic, The powder was invented by chinese, but it is used in all the world include USA now , Should we say that the american stolen the technology of China?

Yeah such arogancy of US ppl is allmost everywhere in this aspect. The cannot acknowledge the fact that some country can implement advanced technology much faster than them - that's the main point. Are you ppl good informed how advanced the china technology is? I think no, so how so you are able to judge their level of technology science based only on years of difference between implementation such tech by US and now by China?
