Has anyone flown in dreams before?

I know its common, but im curious as to "how" you flew, I've flown several times in dreams and again over the weekend was my first flying dream in a few years.

I was acting more like a kite catching the wind and letting it take me while i guided my way around a large field. I remember each time i would do it, i would begin by hovering above the ground by a few feet untill i gained enough momentum to go higher.

It was the best dream i've had in a long time. hah!

Just thought id share

Hey, I see your new here, Hi.

Umm flying I guess its kinda something you just think about, and it kinda happens, since dreams aint prone to the same rules as reality.

I cant remember if I did ever have a flying dream, I have probally have though, but other things I have dreamt some have felt very real, and exsiting

I fly quite often, superman style with unlimited speed potential.............seems like I always have to dodge powerlines and trees. I know when I go really high, I get butterflies and such like it's real.

You can do a lot more than just fly in your dreams every night. Check out the threads on lucid dreaming. You can do whatever you like in your dreams. I have had a very similar experience to yours. In my dreams i run on all fours faster and faster until suddenly i take of high into the sky and then i float down. I feel quite unnerved on the way down.

Yes, flying in a dream can be the most amazing sense of accomplishment one could surmise. It's such a fantastic feeling to grace the skys and ride the current of the wind. It's almost orgasmic, I would do anything to dream such sweet dreams again.

I have flown, but it was more like an odd scene from Charlie and the Chocolate factory at the end when the elevator breaks through the roof of the factory and just seems to float around with them in it and in fact does not appear to be under any sort of control at all. Just a sort of weightless drifting but having evidence that is must be under power by some means outside of our normal perception.

Kind of like flying in a helicopter that has no engine and no rotor blades but can "fly" using the same control principals. Up, Down, pivot, roll etc

I've flown in one of my dreams and induced a OBE. It was quite strange indead.I've flown in one of my dreams and induced an OBE. It was quite strange indeed. Of course I didnt go to far. One time I was flying so high up that is seemed like I went into hyperspace. It was like something out of star track. I didnt have an OBE that time though. Another time it wasnt me that was flying but it was a house that I was in. I opened the front door and the house was above the earth. I took one step and fell toward the earth away from the house.

When I was growing up, flying was all I dreamed about. I was obsessed with it! My dreams were so real. Flying wasn't easy for me either (in my dreams that is). I even remember practicing it. It took alot of concentration to get off the ground. But when I did, it was the greatest feeling in the world. The dreams were so real to me I had to try it when I woke up just to make sure I was really dreaming. I haven't dreamt like that in a long time, but just talking about it takes me back to that time.

Fun topic. Welcome to the board, Bluecollar.

Although I think it's been years since the last one, I used to have some pretty spectacular and elaborate flying dreams, and I loved them. They were GREAT! A real rush! In my dreams, flight seemed completely natural and effortless. I just took off at will and flew anywhere I wanted to. My preference seemed to be flying above and between skyscrapers in some mythical metropolis at night. It wasn't any particular city; just some city with lots of skyscrapers. I would fly aound and above them, hover and sometimes land on top of a huge building. Then I would run, leap off the building and fly around some more. I hadn't thought of it for awhile, but now that I do, I really miss them.

In my waking state, though, I get vertigo when I look down from high places.

That kind of reminds me of something. I'm also not the best swimmer around. I can swim, but wouldn't want to be in a life or death situation where I had to swim a long distance. And yet I also used to have dreams of swimming far out in the middle of the ocean amidst huge waves. I would swim alongside schools of dolphin and whales, and it was completely natural and effortless in these dreams, as well. I loved those dreams, too.

In both cases, flying and swimming, the feeling of freedom was exhilarating. I can't help but wonder now if I had those dreams as a response to feeling oppressed, or held back, in "real life".

Hmmmm ... Thanks for the post, Bluecollar ...

i have dreams of falling alot, thats like my worse fear, i am afraid of heights (its amazing i like rollercoasters) usually when i have dreams of falling its because of me tripping or accidently falling, that is the worse felling, when you trip accidently and fall far, it makes like a warm feeling go through me, then i wake up and im covered in sweat. not good times.

I have those dreams... and I hate them, because I wake up, and find out I can't really fly

A lot of the time, I can levitate in my dreams... it's not really a conscious thing, like, I'll be walking along and thinking, and then kinda realize that my feet aren't touching the ground, and I'm just sort of drifting along.

Other times, I can fly, but I generally don't have too much control over it; like the guy above, I sort of catch updrafts and things like that, rather than direct myself to go higher or lower. In fact, I frequently find myself going too high, and usually freak out and wake up before I go crashing to the ground. Usually.

Good times.

yes, i have had many dreams that i have woken up and found out that they werent true and been really mad for the rest of the day. i had a dream where i could wish for anything i wanted and i wished for a very fast computer that never broke down and a bunch of computer games. and i asked for a car and some other things that i dont want to go into right now, and then i awoke and i was still thinking that it was true but i got sick because i knew that it wasnt real. also i have had dreams of winning millions of dollers at a casino slot machine but again i wake up sick feeling like i just lost millions of dollers. again bad times.

Flying usually comes to me out of necessity in my dreams.. although I have them quite often. I am usually being persued as someone else mentioned and the only way to escape is to fly. It usually requires a pushing off of sorts and continued efforts to get height as well.. after that it is fairly easy to navigate sometimes...
No matter what the pursuit nature is the feeling of flying is always a satisfying one.. its quite wonderful. Even in dreams.

those were the days.... its been a long while since ive had a lucid dream... well i best go start researching these so called threads. dfh out

btw: one dream i had while flying, it was in an open black space, and as i was flying back and for for no apparent reason, there was this giant bat flying around me, also filling my mind with negative thoughts, like, i cant fly, or im not capable of such things. i can just remember telling it that i was, constantly reassuring myself... but then again this isnt a dream interp thread, so i'll leave it at that.

I dreamed I could fly when I was younger as I got older it got harder and harder to fly untill I just couldent get off the ground anymore about the time I was 17 or so. But on the stranger side I have started having flying dreams again in the last copple years and its easy again .Im 39
I have also have had dreams were I was traped under water and thought I was going to dround but find out that I can breath under WATER like aqua man sortive.
Also am realy into scifi and love ufos alians had the same dream dozens of times with just slight verations.
The alians are invading earth and I look up seeing HUNDREDS of ships of realy weird shapes like one was a flying T another looked just like a football stadium. Ps in a few dreams I got to fly the football stadium ufo.
And the standered dream alians invade running to warn the town some were along the way saving the girl. Loved that dream was fun.
But the COOLEST dtream I ever had ; Ever see the movie prediter with aronald in it ? The one where the alian has invisible camo suit.
I dreamed me and a friend were in the woods at Night and one of thous alians was coming down through the trees to get us but Of corse we couldent see him .Was realy scary fealt so real .Man its was better then and coster ride.
Ps have controled dreams as well I studied the hows and whys of dreaming when I was 13 or so and tought my self to control whayt i dream and change the dream in the middle if I dont like it.
Pss the realy strange thing is my son Is 2/3 indian and has the ability to control and change his dreams already at 11 years old just can do it .Unklike me I had to work at it to learn it and its still hard to do.

I used to have flying dreams a lot when I was a child. Most of the time they were some of my best dreams, but occassionally I would fly because I was trying to run away from something and couldn't run and flying was my only option.
Has anyone ever had a dream where they needed to run and couldn't? Almost like you are frozen and your feet are stuck to the ground? Either that or you try to run as fast as you can but you can only manage to run in slow motion? I still have those sometimes and they freak me out! I wake up right before whatever I was trying to run from is about to catch me so I wake up out of breath and filled with anxiety. Not pleasant!
