So who else is reading reports of Chinese tanks and armoured vehicles in the areas affected by the blackouts?

Im down in San Diego, and power just returned to my neck of the woods. Power went out around 1530 at Naval Base San Diego. Closed down the building at 1645, and drove home in complete darkness. Checked Power and Gas company down here right about 1600 before I lost all cell phone service, including 3G capabilities. At that time SDG&E had no idea of the cause, or when power would return.

Rolling brown outs is not the case. Power company will let folk know ahead of time when they do rolling brown outs. Could not be anything too minute or severe, in my opinion, because someone would have been able to tpinpoint the cause with quickness. Had to be a problem unprepared for, or unknown.

Apparently, word came through, I havent verified, but should be easy enough, that power is sent from Arizona somehow, and a worker at the plant "pulled the wrong switch" or something like that. Once again I have not verified this claim. If that is the official word though, I cry bullscat.

Was really hoping for this to last a week or two, as most people I know arent prepared for an emergency and always give me a hard time for being "stocked" with weeks worth of food, water, and gas. Would have been nice to give em the ol "I told you so."

It is always a good wakeup call for those not prepared. On the east coast, where I'm from ,but no longer living there,it was the norm for hurricane season.

Not sure if this information has been posted in this thread,
Apparently someone screwed up in AZ and took out everything west of that.
Light's back on in my area(SD County) . For a while there I thought it was the end of the world! lol
Just goes to show you. It can happen in the blink of an eye.

I'm in Riverside County but have not been effected by the blackouts. I heard some places in Riverside were however. People really aren't prepared...like at all.

Makes you wonder how people will react and survive when a major earthquake hits somewhere around there.
Scary!

I live in Farmington Hills, about 15 minutes from Detroit. I was gonna argue with you on that stray bullet comment until I realized it is partially true.

ATS servers were just out for the past 15-20 minutes, or at least that is the error I was just getting - is it related? I am on vacation in Hawaii, reading this from afar and hoping my doggies are ok back home in AZ!

We're in deep, deep trouble.

My wife and I cooked some spaghetti on the stovetop and the smell was bringing some of the neighbors around. They couldn't understand how we were cooking without electricity. The stoves here are gas and you simply had to light them with a match/lighter.....it never occurred to these numbnuts that they could light the stoves without the electric igniters. I weep for the future.

The power outages probably affected the main servers. That would explain why I cannot post 3.0781 without the period. *. lol It is an Albuquerque, NM zip code. Makes sense for a Roswell fanatic to start a sight like this eh? If that is the location, it would also explain some of the problems ATS is having with 503 errors.

Either that or the sun flare is hitting us. I am in FL at the moment and ATS is very spotty. The rest of the net is fine however.

www.schneier.com...

ok so I've found stuff stating that there was problems with the volatage monitoring equipment. I've seen articles where officials are comparing the cascading blackouts to the blackout in 2003, which was associated with the slammer worm.

in the article above, it mentions that it was the monitoring systems attached to the grid in the slammer incident that started the cascading failures.

COULD we have some similar thing here?

Maybe not intentional like a cyberterrorist threat or maybe it is. Maybe it was a vulnerability test or a pen test that triggered it. But HOUSTON we have a problem we already knew about. MAYDAY MAYDAY Is there anybody OUT there?

One time I was part of a team doing a pen test, and we scanned a server that was supposedly patched to the hilt and we took down a important system that people were using across the country. Took them a day to get it up again and I will never forget the cussing we got for just doing what we were paid to do. Things happened.
Something happened here and the story we are getting is only partial.

What concerns me, is that once again, it is a system attached to the system that seems to be the trigger, and the failsafes they had, if any, if they learned from 2003 incident, were obviously not 'safe' enough.

JMO and conjecture.

So your saying that the lights go out for a few hours and all of the sudden there are CHinese APC's prowling the streets in close proximity to our largest Naval base and no-one cares?
