Contrary to the Author's implication, I think is is very patriotic to turn down this president who apparently care nothing about the US except for its total destruction. I love it.

www.sbnation.com...
Five NASCAR Drivers Decline President Obama's White House Invitation by Jeff Gluck • Sep 1, 2011 10:37 PM EDT President Barack Obama will honor NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and the 11 other Chase drivers from last year in a White House ceremony on Wednesday – but nearly half of the 2010 playoff contenders won't be there. NASCAR said Thursday that five drivers – Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart – will not be attending the White House visit due to "schedule conflicts." They must be very busy people. Regardless of one's political views, the president is still the president – and an opportunity to speak with the leader of the free world is a rare and special one. You'd think whatever photo shoots or sponsor appearances these drivers have lined up on Wednesday afternoon – if that's indeed the reason – could be rescheduled. After all, this is the President of the United States we're talking about here. For a sport that prides itself on patriotism, having so many drivers turn down the president's invitation simply seems strange. Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth will attend.

Maybe they turned down the POTUS because they are patriotic.

NASCAR is the sport of the "everyman".... the average everyday blue collar worker....and these people are very unhappy with Mr. Obama.... very unhappy.

In retail...every comment or feedback represents at least 5 other customers that didn't give you feed back. So, for every vocal person that objects to Mr. Obama's policies...imagine that times 5 or more the true number that object.

Many of my customers...most are farmers, hobby farmers, and rural/suburbanites.... they despise Mr. Obama...question his loyalties, his intentions, still question his faith and beliefs.... some say he is Muslim...some say he is the "antichrist"...many wonder about his patriotism...all are concerned, black and white,...that he doesn't know what he is doing.

Many of my black customers say with digust that he has..."messed it up for the next black man" that runs.

Further, these racers/ competitors represent product lines and sponsers that may not like Mr. Obama's punitive tax and business policies...nor do they want their being present seen as an endorsement of the POTUS and hurt their already lagging sales.

Frankly, when you have local politicians, businesses, and now NASCAR declining Mr. Obama...it means being associated with him is poison. That even goes for a lot of the state level democrats coming up for re-election... let's see how many of them skip town when the POTUS comes a calling.

.

I hate to say it, I know that this is a conspiracy site but here it goes.

Maybe they did have a scheduling conflict. It sounds as if the author of this article has a hard on for the president. These men run a business that is very competitive and requires their full attention. Maybe they value the bills more than just getting a pic with the president....

Now that I think about it.....I could care less if I met the president anymore......But I am not rich and in the spotlight.

This report is full of ASSumptions and more political rhetoric

It’s a photo op for the President, nothing more. And I’m sure that he is not offended by those who are not attending.

NASCAR has got to be one of the most expensive sports out there. Blown engines, wrecks, Tires and all the various sundry stuff has got to rack up big bucks, each and every race.

However, the team owners may be making a statement. After all, there number two priority, after winning a race, is to showcase their sponsors.

Without a sponsor who is showing a profit, you go belly up quickly in NASCAR.

I’d rather have my team driver signing fans autograph than meeting the President. No profit in that, except for the President.

Perhaps they think the president has better things to do than honor NASCAR.
What an embarrassment.

Maybe they just plain old don't like Obama.

That used to be one of the fine things about our country, not having anyone expect you to bow down before a king.

i would like to see President Obama make an in-person appearance at a NASCAR event just to see the crowd reaction. doubt that would ever happen as the logistics of making such a visit would be a nightmare for security.

Wow...what a thought? Mr.Obama at a NASCAR race...that would even get me to watch NASCAR again..

I think it would be a PR nightmare....and he knows it too...which is why you will never see Mr.Obama at NASCAR... he would do it too, if he thought it would get him some support.

Wow...I can just see that now on YouTube.... it would not be pretty.

Obama doesn't exactly grab me as a Nascar kind of guy... In fact I would bet that he doesn't give a rat's ass about it. What this is, is shameless/desperate PR from the man who's on an all-time low. Kudos to the drivers for flipping him the bird.

NASCAR - being true to it's origins - raising their collective fingers against prohibition - no infringing on freedom.

NASCAR is the sport of the "everyman"....

and coming straight outta bama i gotta ask if anyone out there has heard the words used to describe Obama down here by your "Everyman" NASCAR crowd? it starts w an N and is VERY racist...
these are the people who anyone expected to show up to a "summons" from the president? they represent the most hatefilled core of America that there is. i have lived all over the country and have to say, racisim is alive and doing very well down here. cant wait to move back out west.
now im not sayin they are doin it because they are racist, but it is a thing to consider...

So, you're supposed to suck up to an idiot just because of his job title? This is as good as saying "Forget your beliefs, ideals and morals, it's The President" It's called being two faced and obviously those guys are not.

Are people seriously still pushing that "leader of the free world" line?
Personally, whether I had a scheduling conflict or not, I don't think I'd care to meet for a photo op with a man associated with multiple military operations, a tanking economy, questionable leadership ability, potential Presidential illegitimacy, and more side-stepping of individual rights than any other President in history.
But that's me.

I can see Mr Obama sitting them down with the likes of Big Sis, or Louis Farakhan, and having them drink a few beers (or what ever Louis drinks.).
My hats off to them for respectfully declining.
Their actions should send a message to Mr Obama ( who is a one term POTUS).
