Five NASCAR Drivers Decline President Obama's White House Invitation by Jeff Gluck • Sep 1, 2011 10:37 PM EDT President Barack Obama will honor NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and the 11 other Chase drivers from last year in a White House ceremony on Wednesday – but nearly half of the 2010 playoff contenders won't be there. NASCAR said Thursday that five drivers – Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart – will not be attending the White House visit due to "schedule conflicts." They must be very busy people. Regardless of one's political views, the president is still the president – and an opportunity to speak with the leader of the free world is a rare and special one. You'd think whatever photo shoots or sponsor appearances these drivers have lined up on Wednesday afternoon – if that's indeed the reason – could be rescheduled. After all, this is the President of the United States we're talking about here. For a sport that prides itself on patriotism, having so many drivers turn down the president's invitation simply seems strange. Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth will attend.

NASCAR is the sport of the "everyman"....
and coming straight outta bama i gotta ask if anyone out there has heard the words used to describe Obama down here by your "Everyman" NASCAR crowd? it starts w an N and is VERY racist...
these are the people who anyone expected to show up to a "summons" from the president? they represent the most hatefilled core of America that there is. i have lived all over the country and have to say, racisim is alive and doing very well down here. cant wait to move back out west.
now im not sayin they are doin it because they are racist, but it is a thing to consider...
Further, these racers/ competitors represent product lines and sponsers that may not like Mr. Obama's punitive tax and business policies...nor do they want their being present seen as an endorsement of the POTUS and hurt their already lagging sales.
what exactly is a POTUS?
now about the shameless photo op part of the post. this is politics, what politician have you heard of that would pass one up? not sayin i think it is good to be such an attention whore, but both the left and right do it...
