How would a fragment be caused to come "screaming toward earth?" Any fragments, like the original comet, would be objects falling through space.

No, it would assuredly decrease it's chances of impacting anything, if it has broken up. The smaller pieces might survive traveling through space for awhile, simply because moving through a vacuum requires almost no energy.

However, when they hit the atmosphere they'd be much more likely to disintegrate completely due to their lowered mass and decreased energy as they slam into a wall of compressed gas at insanely high temperatures. Assuming they make it that far, that is. Because of their smaller size they would likely be pulled off course on a completely different trajectory before they get anywhere near our planet, if they haven't broken up completely by then.

The more a comet breaks up, the faster it continues to break apart. The increased surface area leads to increased solar radiation, causing the volatile materials of the comet to vaporize at an exponentially accelerating pace. Elenin at it's largest only has a mass one billionth of that of Earth, and any gravitational, magnetic, or other supposed fields wouldn't exert any measurable influence at over 35 million kilometers away, even more-so if the mass is further split as it breaks apart.

First of all... Elenin is not a comet. Nor is it a brown dwarf. By NASA saying that "comet" elenin will have no impact on the Earth is correct because Elenin is "not" a comet. So there they are telling the truth. So what is it?

Also, I was reading this morning about how Comet Elenin is related to 9/11. Read about the founders name and how it, too, relates to 9/11.
