Im from UK but have been watching FOX news all night keeping up with whats going on. Ive seen press conferences by mayors of citys telling people to 'get out' and saying its 'against the law to stay'. They are scaring people out of the towns but they almost seem like they are trying a bit to hard. I mean imagine what you could do with an empty Times Square, it seems like they have jumped on this opportunity and are pushing and pushing for something.

I know it sounds a bit far fetched and maybe they are just paranoid to avoid a katrina style farce. But im not so sure, those press conferences seemed to be filled with anger rather than concern or worry.

If you want to add to the conspiracy!!! The media is way overplaying this. I am sitting in the hurricane now in Maryland and it's wind and rain, maybe just enough to raise an eyebrow or two. I have my window open while i'm typing this. Maybe I'm stupid, but I'm not worried. This is nothing close to deadly or impending doom type scenario's. Media Fear mongering again. When have you ever heard the media talk about hurricane deaths and give you the exact specifics on how someone died during the hurricane. Never. One was a car accident. 2 were log injuries. Branches falling from tree's and the other six they have not released yet.

Media, My media, your drama sickins me

I think your first issue should be watching Fox news to find out whats going on lol. IMO it's just an over reaction by the government to try and avoid another Katrina like incident. I could be wrong though, only time will tell.

Remember the record breaking fires earlier this year? Most of them were located around Nuclear or other sensitive military facilities like Fort Huachuca and the Sandia Lab. Those fires were set and millions were evac-ed because of them. The Movie Super 8 has a scene where the Government sets a wildfire to be used as an excuse to make people evac.

Could all be hokum. Then again is there some reason why they would be conditioning the entire country to accept massive evacuations?

Think about the economic impact of forcing every casino and business to close on one of the last weekends of summer. A time when they would normally be packed and booming. I think they may take this opportunity to pull the balloon out from under the economy that they have been propping it up with, and blaming the storm's economic impact. An economic impact that was created by government agencies forcing everything to close, not the hurricane.

It is also possible that they are just terrified to get the level of blame that Bush did with Katrina should anything really bad happen, so they overreacted. I think that one of these is likely true.

First of all, SHUT off FOX news!

The Hurricane has been downgraded from a category 3 to a 1 which is wonderful for those who are in its path. When a Hurricane is coming towards your area you can't necessarily predict if it will downgrade like Irene has done.

Areas were evacuated to prevent the devastation and flooding that was seen in Katrina. However although Katrina did a lot of damage in Mississippi, I think people are forgetting that it wasn't the storm itself that caused so much damage in New Orleans, but that the levee system itself failed.

It takes quite an amount of time to safely evacuate an area and once evacuated it doesn't make sense to allow people to return home until the storm has completely passed. Even with a tropical storm there can be high gusts of winds. I consider any storm death to be bad; so far there have been 8 from Irene on the east coast. That is with evacuations and all the warnings people have had. I don't see any conspiracy involved in trying to keep people safe and prevent what could have been a catastrophic event had the storm not downgraded.

I live in Florida where there are Frequent Hurricanes. We are prepared for them, a big city like New York or Boston is not. Im sure most people in New York do not have shutters to put on their windows or enough for cover every giant building.

It's 100% for safety. Hurricane winds can be crazy.

Its funny how even most of us on ATS are paying attention to this whole fiasco. Even though we are "awake", and whatever it is we are suppose to be or call ourselves.

Smoke and mirrors. CNN loves hurricane ratings.

I've been thinking about this too. Maybe though it's to CLEAN and not clear?

Hurricanes are natures power wash system. Perhaps there was a reason that area needed to be scrubbed clean.

Like I said before, this pathetic little hurricane is being used as an excuse to plan out a major false flag operation/attack...soon.

It was a massive storm - 400 mile across and thank heavens it's been downgraded and weakening all the time - having said that - the meteorologists know that this is the nature of storms once they hit land.

If anything - I would say that they're using this storm to test how effectively they can clear the streets and tube stations and how long it actually takes for a possible future event. It does appear to be over played somewhat!

My other thoughts were that it wasn't that long ago that the Governments wanted to shut down the power stations because of running costs - well I can just imagine them sitting in the White House planning their moves and say something like " the folks will never accept a limited power supply - not to worry - the next storm that comes along we'll just blame that" that way we don't get the blame!

Just watch and see how long it is before normal power is back on??? (Probably my imagination
