easy girls, you both sound kind of snippity to me. A chicken is a chicken, Tobey is Human. Also, Tobey doesn't have the energy to be the example of a useless arguement that he should have never been a part of.

Okay, time to drop some reality on the original poster and all you stupid followers who replied saying we as a mankind are inhumane, etc, etc.

In poultry, only the hens lay eggs aka Layers, and the male chickens are financially inefficient to keep, feed and then disposed of at a later date. So after hatching, chicks are sexed and the males are disposed of in a manner which is approved by both Canadian and American government agencies.

Many poultry farmers would gladly give away male chicks, to those who are willing to adopt them. So original poster, I was just wondering how may chicks you will be adopting. After all, if you do not adopt male chicks, they will be disposed of, or murdered as you see it. Each and every chick you do not adopt is "murdered" because you have failed to do anything about it. Instead of posting videos from your suburban home, maybe do some research into the industry and get some facts. Furthermore, why don't you do something about it. Boycott any grocery store, restaurant and so fourth which sells chicken meat because they are the ones which drive the industry.

Hmmm, interesting thought. So if someone wanted to build a henhouse.. I mean, a cockhouse (shut up, that's what it would be) and adopt those male chicks, they could essentially have free chickens for as long as they wanted? Aside from the cost of the house and feed, of course. Do male chickens taste any different? Sorry, I am admittedly totally ignorant about chicken farming.

The flesh is a little harder and the taste a little different, in Portugal we have some recipes specifically made with male chickens and some for castrated male chickens.

It is my opinion that our attitudes towards animals reflects our attitudes towards humans.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where the majority just don't give a damn about animals and sadly it can be said to be the same for humans.
What a damned selfish and horrible bunch we are, in general.

Shame on us.

I do not buy my chickens from major corporations, I have my own. We eat our own chicken's eggs and rarely kill our own chickens. My grandfather and next door neighbor has cows and a personal butcher and that is where we get our meat from. We use the trading method. We trade our goods for theirs. Its part of what I love about living in small rural towns. They are happy animals and live a while before we eat them. We have numerous chickens that roam our land and some that prefer to sit in the coop, especially since its been so hot. We lost about 5 chickens this summer due to either a snake or the heat.

How ridiculously ignorant. You want the entire human race to be extinguished from the planet because a certain few companies thrive on being masochistic, money-hungry demons? I, for one, am vegan and while I don't agree with their techniques, I'm not saying anyone who isn't vegan should be dispelled from the planet.

This is horrifying, yes, so we need to protest and change that, instead of just condemning those who do it silently. Be the change you want to see in this world.

I think that it's great that you're able to live like that. I love the fact that you practice trade with others who do the same. That's how I would prefer to do it myself. ~SheopleNation

Unfortunately, most people live in cities, where something like is not easy to do (the only free space I can find for it would be my apartment's balconies
), so they have to use other ways of getting their food, and those people are the targets of the industrialization of food production.

1. Tell me what other purpose a chicken has in the "circle of life" none, except to be food. .

I'm a carnivore and I will always be a carnivore. Meat is just great, I love the stuff. But that doesn't mean that I feel that just because certain animals are "alive to just be food" that we should basically torture them. Disagreeing with that is just sick and shows your mentality which is rather, disgusting.

I didn't see any one Water Boarding any chickens. I saw them being prepared as food. My mentality is that food is food know matter how you look at it. So I suppose shooting it and letting it die is much better. Maybe we'll shoot an arrow at it and if it doesn't die right away and we can't find it. I suppose that's not torture. It is what it is. I suppose if someone dropped one on the floor, they should put it back in the incubator until it is healthy again. Come one now!! They are raised to eat. If it's so disgusting maybe you should go and free them all. I'm sure you'll do that.

Yes, I agree. especially when you are not familiar with local farmer markets, We had the same problem when we moved into a larger city miles away from family. I don't think people are bad for not growing/raising their own food. We all do what we can to survive. A lot of people care, but since its out of sight its out of mind. I was raised on fast food, it was a difficult change to go from a quick breakfast at Mcdonalds, to egg picking for my own breakfast. It doesn't happen overnight. I still crave an easy meal.

I am assuming your answer is as legit as my question was. I was half expecting some rude answers with sexual references, which was not my intention. I seriously don't know if they use males or females for food. I know there are variations when I buy chicken breasts, but I figure there are differences between various breeds of chickens as well.

You can grow enough food on your apartment balcony if you know how: balcony gardening

I love all the excuses people are coming up with, while not one of them is insurmountable. It's laziness and complacency; ignorance and downright selfishness...

My answer is as legit as any of my posts, you asked, I answered.

Female chickens grow a little faster, so they are a better "product" in this industry. Also, as males take longer to grow, when they reach the same size as the females their flesh is a little harder, with more and stronger muscles.

Most chickens, these days, are all from the same variety, the one that grows faster and that has fewer of those small hair-like feathers.

Sometimes I eat real chicken, not one of those 8 weeks chicken, and the taste and texture are very different, so much that they cannot be cooked in the same way.

This is nothing new. I used to work in the KILL ROOM at a Tyson Foods plant. I see live chickens dunked into huge tall scalding tanks to make defeathering them easier. They are killed (supposed to be from the scald tanks) where then they are run through into/through a severing fork which ultimately decapitates them.

I've made chicken using gluten. Before it's cooked, it is a very strong paste that can ruin a plate. Wear gloves if you're going to attempt.

I confess, I find it easier and tastier to feed the corporate machine for my chicken,

Really? Other than the fact that you obviously work for pig sucking bottomfeeders like this, and that you just registered here today in order to defend your masters who own you as well as the chickens, what exactly is your point? ~SheopleNation

I can watch videos of humans getting destroyed, but I will not click to watch this video.

I hate seeing animals get killed. 1. They're far cuter than humans, and 2. make far more sense than humans.
