No, not familiar (but checked out the description on Amazon). What does she say about schizophrenia?

She's a psychiatrist but with intuitive abilities which she kept secret for a long time because of the profession she was in. She found that in working with schizophrenics that only a small percentage were actually truly schizophrenic and needed meds (for all the reasons you have already given).

But she found that the majority were actually actually suffering from what she saw as spiritual illness. ie they were really open and picking up on other people's thoughts, or were psychic but with no understanding of how to manage their ability so it was literally driving them crazy.

It's been a long time since I read the book but it was very interesting on how healing and 'spiritual' and educational coaching could help some diagnosed as schizophrenic could come to live with their heightened abilities. Her biggest issue was that the current system has no facility to deal with this sort of person. And without the guidance/coaching they are doomed to a much worse fate than medical schizophrenic who do respond to medication.

I haven't kept up with what she is doing now so don't know if she has made any progress with any of this.

I think it's... more complicated than that. Though I hate to disagree with a psychiatrist who wrote a book I haven't even read. It's quite possible she and I agree more than we disagree. But here I go...

In certain cultures schizophrenics are revered as the shamans and the mystics, and that makes a big, big difference in the progression and outcome of their symptoms. Why is that? I suspect it all gets back to what I said: it's the FEAR that is creating the brain damage in the first place.

Take a teenager who's sensitive and perceptive and already grappling with how to fit in with his/her peers, who's brain is undergoing enormous growth and rewiring, and expose them to marijuana, a drug everyone knows can make one paranoid. What do you get? A bad case of fear. Compound matters if that child comes from a crappy home with parents who abuse them or whatever, or who ignores the child's troubles and is in denial about emerging symptoms. And we haven't even touched upon the general culture of fear we're all exposed to from day one -- religion, video games, violence on television, on and on and on....

If it's a spiritual illness the illness is not in the schizophrenic -- it's in the society as a whole, the society that has perpetuated the conditions for fear, which damages and holds back even the best of brains. There's your mirror again, take a good look: it's the entire world that created the schizophrenic; it's the world that is spiritually ill.

The GOOD news is: we now know that the brain never stops growing and damage really can be undone. But it takes time. And yes, often it takes more than love and caring family or even the best doctors. Once there's been enough damage to the gray matter, all the prayer and positive thinking in the world -- by itself, without addressing the physical side of the illness with medication -- is not going to cure schizophrenia.

As I said, if nothing else, the medications help the person get ample sleep -- which is what our brains need for healing. I'm not a scientist (as we've already established!) but I also suspect some of these medications (the ones that muck with blood sugar and cause weight gain) encourage the person taking them to eat carb-rich foods, which the brain needs to rebuild and rewire.

Meditation is not going to help an unmedicated schizophrenic who's got lots of gray matter missing. A schizophrenic already spends too much time in his/her head and imagination. This eye staring exercise is also going to backfire as schizophrenics are exceedingly sensitive to reading/misreading facial cues -- therapists who work with them are trained in keeping a neutral poker face, on purpose. The lucid dreaming tricks might help, but not if taken literally and while wide awake someone decides to leap off a bridge and fly. See?

This "train" (thread) to October 28, 2011 doesn't seem very focused. It's not even very focused on the topic. It doesn't seem like that 3% 100th monkey rule for achieving world population abilities of some task are even going to be achieved among a whole group here.

If you all can discern tasks we've actually accomplished here to help with October 28th successfully to be picked up by the global grid, could you list them out?

So far we can go to the park, go out of time, and see a reality we dream up to see around us.

This comes in the face of the rumors that potentially it could be the "three days of darkness" period during which NO ONE is to see a crack of light for outside or be driven insane. Down through time we were told to stay totally inside if we see this time is here.

Everyone watching what's going on, on the Record? Open posted a password-protected post. And omiyaru posted coordinates to an address in Texas, which now can't be pulled up. I saw that earlier and popped into google and got the street map, but now it's not working. Literally, like two hours ago, that was working on google maps... and now it's not.

The plot thickens.

Totally agree with everything you say here and from my memory (though has been quite a while since I read book so I may be wrong) this is pretty much what she said. Her point though was that there is a percentage (as low as 5%) I think that have actual brain chemistry issues which will necessitate medication for life. The rest fall into the categories you describe who may need meds to get them through the worst patch but more importantly need a much more holistic type of therapy to recover in the long term than the system currently offers. That was her big issue in that book. mainly that they system doesn't really recognise the spirit and how the therapy offered has to be a lot more intuitive and spirit centered than is presently seen as acceptable in the psychiatric / theraputic model.

As I said I don't know what she is doing today or if she is even still working as a psychiatrist. Must look her up...

Cool. I figured as much, but since patient compliance is the number one issue that prevents a schizophrenic from getting well, I felt a keen responsibility to write what I wrote. Gotta be careful how one words things, because it could be read as "I don't need meds" and just reinforce the non-compliance.

Okay guys. That isn't cool. Would you want your coordinates published on this thread? Regardless of whether or not that is opens location, it seems just plain wrong to post it on here or on the record.
