I think as long as he us an Iraqi and/or a member of a militia he was acting under the rules of war/armed conflict. I just cant believe it took 5 years to release him. If he is from a neighboring country and just going out of his way to spread radical Islam than **** him. They should have than shot his ass on the side of the road after interrogating him if that was the situation.

Lets see.

US army bombs the living # out of Iraq, on false claims of WMDs, yellowcake uranium, mobile chemical weapons factories etc.
Iraqis fight back...killing American soldiers.
And the Iraqis gets arrested for doing so? Seriously??

I wonder what the people who are angry at this sniper being released, think about the thousands of iraqis killed by American soldiers. What? They deserved to die? Their lives are not worth as much as an Americans?

What surprised me more is that he is alive.

Maybe it's part of a plan to watch and follow the guy in order to catch some bigger fish and save more lives in the future.

He should be tried for violating the rules of war which was being a civilian carrying a weapon. Because it would give a good reason to start targeting civilians. He never wore a uniform when fighting. Not to mention that he may have killed Iraqis as well.

Because Al-Qaeda swarmed into Iraq and tried to kill many Iraqis.

And wiki-leaks proves that WMDs are found...www.examiner.com...

Maybe because Bush received it bases on a bad intel but guess what so does for the rest of the world intel.

war is the most retarded thing on this planet, we are such a primitive species. UGH!! im sick of these Neanderthals that keep holding this species back with this stupid power struggle and race for supremacy. If the morons banded together invested the resources we waste on killing each other we would have free energy and be able to advance to the next level of evolution. what a waste of potential.

and to the OP. You need a double shot of wake up juice if you think a group killing another group in a military conflict needs to go to jail.

Im a US Marine. If they caught this guy there is a 99.9% chance he did what he did which is kill 2 of my brothers that i never got to meet. Its real easy to sit at a computer and consider yourself superior to two dead men and say "they invaded a country they get what they deserve". Or "the poor terrorist is really just defending his country". ##SNIP## You dont know that he was part of the syrian/iranian/baathist terrorist groups that murdered more Iraqis than they did US military personnel. Being that this guy was sniping he very possibly may have had formal training from the iranians or syrians. Real sniping isnt the same as when you sit your ass in a chair and play sniper on the xbox. Iran and syria were giving crash courses on how to shoot, stalk, make ieds, gather intel, ect and PAYING these folks to go out and kill. THAT MAKES HIM A MERCENARY NOT A POOR IRAQI FIGHTING OFF THE INVADERS!!!!!! I had buddies get shot up in fallujah and few more gone from ieds one being family. Anyone marginalizing these two Marines deaths and showing any type of support for the terrorist that killed them I have something to say to you. Go look in the mirror and tell yourself you will never be the type of person that Captain McKenna or Cpl. Glover was, you will never be that good. Shame on every damn one of you talking like that. Semper fi.

You invaded a foreign nation.
People there shot back.
You want sympathy?

Hmmm.....let's see. Insurgent blows a car bomb in a crowded market place and kills civilians (supposedly the people he's fighting to free from the horrible US. )

US forces drop a bomb in a town and kill civilians because the insurgent decided to hide in the civilian population, using them as human shields.

Tricky.

Not really. We have no business being there. It could hardly be more simple.

I don't know the full story.......BUT, snipers kill people in wars and many countries are not bound by or obligated to adhere to things like the 'rules of war' (geneva convention).
these 'rules' are put in place with the intention of regulating our own standards but they are not nessecarilly 'laws' as such.
we can choose to hold our own to these standards and as a single nation incorporate them into our law.
To continue to inprison an enemy soldier once a war is over is wrong as keeping p.o.w's is an alternative to killing in the field of combat. a p.o.w is a defeated soldier, or, no longer a combatant.
following orders is not (technically) a crime however the one issuing the order (from the top of c.o.c) can be held accountable.
if this were not the case then virtually every man in germany and japan (at the end of WWII) would have been in prison after the war officially ended.

That's war, you wouldn't want to be imprisoned if someone invaded your country, you'd fight back. Besides it said he would be released when the troops left Iraq originally, which IMO will not be happening within our lifetimes.

...it makes me wonder why were these soldiers even there if we are just letting terrorist snipers back out into the fight....

....I hope something gets done about this. what can we do? write letters organize protests ?
that's unlikely as we are all over here living/working trying to pay our Gov. for our freedom,,,,

Your ignorance is about as astounding as the fact that you thought this was worthwhile ATS news. I've said this a lot in the last few months, because apparently just anyone thinks they can make a quality post nowadays, but seriously, go educate yourself on the events of the world. There are over 1,000,000 dead in Iraq right now. Most of them Non Americans. Aside from Infrastructure damage, self interest groups, and a whole host of other traumas, there is good reason people are taking up the rifle to oppose. Nobody is thinking "oh that man must have a family." It is kill or be killed. Take this nonsense over to CNN.com/forums and vent your horribly misdirected concerns towards the "terrorists."

-Unless this was intentionally a joke post, in that case I commend you, you made me laugh.

You and victor crack me up!!!! 2 idiots blinded by their patriotism. I have read both of your arguments against everyone and your basically saying your defending the civilians, but hey if we have to drop a bomb on them to defend them, then that's your job right? Well then I guess you are mercenarys XD. You both seem like pretty thick skilled individuals who won't even hear what the other people are telling you. Your country invaded another for reasons that were most likely unknown to you before you started chanting USA with a gun in your hand. I think you and victor should look in the mirror and see the killers in yourselves. You are murderers

So what? It's war man. A war that America started. Get your facts straight will you?

I'm glad he's out. I also think he should receive a million dollars of your tax money for compensation.

Sooo terrible when white skinned people die right? Forget about the thousands of children the US military have carved up.

To be honest, the comments made about car bombings etc is complete hyprocrisy.

So doesn't matter if you are dropping bombs on entire cities regardless of how many civilians are there?

"Meat shields?" so does that make it ok to actually drop those bombs on civilians?

Just as bad as each other, I could understand if we were there to actually fight for their protection or ours but that's not the case, we are causing more harm to ourselves and them by staying there and that's a fact. The problems we went to solve either didn't exist or are now gone. So GTFO out of the country.

No, I think that is an interpretation that was erronously made by your mind, actually.

I was saying that this was a result of the chaos caused by the American invasion, actually.

Right. So you're saying that because of the chaos caused by the Amercian invasion, it's OK for insurgents to kill civilians.

Ever hear of the French Ressistance. They got medals for killing Nazi sympathizers.

Of course some people side with the invasion and some don't. That creates friction among the citizens of that country that support different views, obviously.

The terror groups I was referring to are not siding with the U.S. If they were we would not be getting killed in Afghanistan. Fact is, the terror groups im referring to do not care if they kill their own people or not. It's not because of the U.S that they manifested, it's not because of an invasion, considering they've been around for a long time. They've been killing others and their own for generations, without regard for the lives lost.

In regards to Iraq, innocents are still being killed by suicide bombers/attacks by their own kind. Doesn't matter if it's an American or a Muslim, they kill because that is what they enjoy doing. They revel in the attention they receive from doing so. Evil is one thing that motivates them, and killing human beings of all kinds is another.
