The video in the OP and the source it is from has current dates, I think what everyone is doing now is scrambling to see if it is verifiably an actual X class flare. If this is true would it effect the entire planet, or would the sun facing side get it worse than the dark side?

The two are being confused. The current flare being imaged is minor. The X18 flare being connected to it is from 2003.
The confusion actually began with a Google result showing the 2003 story from a few hours ago.

Wasn't Stereo A and B down in the past day? I seem to remember reading that it was not reporting and then the NASA meeting was called regarding flares.

Ok, im with you guys on how can they say its a X18. But the u tube video is dated today, that shows a pretty impresive CME heading towards us.

It's not impressive at all. As has already been posted in this thread, the two most recent flares (the past 24 hours) were a B3 and C1. Almost not worth mentioning.

My G.f is getting on a plane to return from NZ to the UK on Tuesday, this is worrying!

Unless there is high geomagnetic activity which there isn't and that flight takes a polar route, which it won't, there's nothing to worry about.
