That's the worst CGI I've ever seen in my entire life.

You have to be autistic to think this is real. ALL CGI videos start with someone pointing at the ground filming themselves randomly, and happen to catch something. THIS IS CGI. Jet engine sounds carry behind them.

I found this video today, and the thing I find interesting about it is at the end of the video, you can see a blinking light on the back of the saucer shaped craft. Let me have your opinion on what you think it is.

Here is the home video:

I paused the video just before the UFO went behind the house and noted that around the UFO is a squarish patch that is different to the sky and the darker cloud.

There is a similar (but harder to see) rectangle around each of the 'planes.

The planes themselves look like the same image duplicated.

Total CGI.

All these people jumping on the "really bad CGI... fake!" bandwagon without really interrogating the clip using editing software don't know what they're talking about.

I am unsure if this is real or fake, but if it's fake it's a most excellent editing job. As stated by Kali74 it is extremely difficult to pick out anything wrong with the video. Perspectives, tracking, environment blending are all achieved flawlessly based on this fairly low-res footage.

As you can see from this GIF, the UFO and Jets are clearly behind the branches of the tree in the foreground. It is most definitely possible to do this with editing, but in this instance it is an excellent masking job, and the editing is consistent at other points in the video. If this was edited, it would be interesting to know what resolution the creator was working at originally.

Editing and image/video creation has reached the point where it is possible to make something that is indistinguishable from reality at the current level of tech.

My determination is that it is impossible to tell whether this is real or fake based on this fairly low-res video.

My personal opinion echoes Kali74 in that it is most likely real footage of 2 jets, with the UFO edited in afterwards, but it is impossible to tell definitively.

Cheers

P.S. I used After Effects and Photoshop to interrogate this footage.

Fake. Aliens (if real, and they arent ) wouldnt be going anywhere with 2 war planes. CGI straight up. Besides, we'd shoot the xeno scum and take their technology to be reverse engineered.

When looking at the footage frame-by-frame in After Effects there is no indication of any "squares" around the UFO or planes. The most you can see is some jpeg compression around the objects which is exactly what you would expect regardless of whether this was real or fake footage.

REALLY? People are still debating this silly video? Nobody needs to Anallise this crap in After effects or Photoshop. Anyone that has any kind of experience in motion graphics or videos should be able to immediately know this is fake. But by all means carry on wasting your time trying try to prove otherwise.

Good Luck.

... and how do you "know" it is fake? What aspects of the video lead you to... "immediately know this is fake"?

I actually have a lot of experience in motion graphics, and on close inspection of this low-res video you cannot make that determination. It seems to me that the best "proof" ever would still have people crying "fake" without any real knowledge on the matter. I am seeing a lot of unfounded claims of fake in this thread, so thought it was worth investigating further.

I looked closer because lots of people are saying "bad CGI" or similar, when in actual fact (if it is indeed fake) it is extremely good CGI, showing a high level of skill. For me, the jury is still out on the real/fake issue, but as a purely academic exercise of analysing footage it is an interesting video to look at.

It's also never a bad idea to take a closer look at things, even if you can happily make the "fake" assessment without giving reasons.

Personally for me, it isn't even about whether it's real or not (logic alone tells me it's fake) it's about the fact that making a public statement of "that's the worst cgi I've ever seen" is, frankly, ignorant...it's actually extremely good. Had the saucer not been in that video any one of these "it's fake" posters wouldn't have given cgi a second thought. Moreso, with this topic it's important to really know and understand wtf you're looking at because maybe just maybe one day THE video will pop up somewhere.

I know it is fake based on my experience as a camera man, a video editor, and a motion graphic artist. You can just tell, and if you cant - then your "experience" sucks. (sorry)

It doesn't look right straight away. They don't move naturally - especially when you first see them.

I will admit that the end of the video looks ok and would require some level skill. But you can still tell its not real.

I am in no way a "non believer" or debunker. I am a definite believer and I will know when I see decent video proof.

This is definitely not it.

That's kind of rude saying my experience sucks. You have no idea what my experience is, but just to give you an idea, I have worked in industry and academia as a graphic and motion artist (3D modelling, video editing and compositing, cameraman, image manipulation, construction, teaching.. among other activities) for the past 15 years, which I believe gives me a little bit of an idea.

As a cameraman you should know that even real footage can occasionally produce some anomalous results. I don’t think it is possible to make the evaluation that “it doesn’t look right straight away” based on the few frames when the objects first come on screen, and “You can just tell”, is an opinion, not evidence.

Cheers

I dont believe this to be legitimate. If it was, you wwouldnt hear the sound until after they pass. With the speed and the altitude/distance, the image of the plane would reach you before the sound.

Completely untrue, sorry. I've been to airshows and also on the 4th of July (I live in Boston) they decided to fly over my house and I nearly needed a change of pants. I heard them before I saw them.

Still fake but, not for that reason.

Ah ... lord hyperbole ... I see you have returned to the forum and once again found the post button. Would you like a comfy chair, or are you fine on your chariot?

For all of your discussions about your experience in this thread, there's very little substance to your posts. Sorry to single you out but ... you could have discussed the artist's use of color casting to attempt to imply distance, their use of lighting, grain matching, the exposure of the camera, the edges of the mattes ... or any other number of technical details to simply prove your experience rather than just repeatedly implying it.

You're not the only one doing it in this thread. I sometimes look at threads like this and perhaps I think about posting, but then realise am just too lazy to bother going into the technical detail/provide examples to explain it to another person. Then I get on with my life.

I worked out you think this is fake, and I don't disagree. Notice am not posting blankly calling people out though?

Several others also believe it's fake, and just want advice on how to spot fakes in the future. Clearly you think you could make this shot better, so if you imply that experience in reverse you should be able to tell those who are asking what's wrong with it. Perhaps give them some advice for the future for their benefit, and the benefit of your blood pressure?

As for worse CGI in your life ... clearly you've never seen Mega Piranha ... it makes Lord of the Rings look like a crayon drawing.

Apparently F-14's were decomm'd in 2006.

The F-14's were retired from fleet service in 2006 but are still flown at some of the naval reserve bases.

My comment is, even if it's real... so what?

Have we learned anything more than we knew (or believed) before? If so, what?

Who? The Air Force? Aliens? Which aliens? Where did they come from? Where did they go? What's happening in the video other than what we can see?

If you think it's real, fine. Tell us what insights you've gleaned from it.

ok slow it down a bit not sayin its true (edit) but it dosent vanish before the house.

lol ok so its total bs made for a contest witch is only about computer graphics. lol all the arguing and most dont even look into what they are defending or bashing. op do your own research so the masses who dont have a brain can at least get spoon fed something half decent. god i tell you this site isnt news anymore. to many threads about half researched, misleading, flag seeking, bull #. when did the ideas of people and thier problems or fantasies become news. and to all you and only those of you who need to argue and contaminate threads with your nonsence shut the &*#$ up post your opinion and any facts you have so the rest of us dont have to sift through most of the bull to get real info. you want a chat site go chat somewhere else.

peace to all the logical posters looking for the truth.
