"Snitch Mom", London, turns her rioting daughter to the Police!

I'm horrified that the OP and possibly other members are shocked and appalled that she'd turn her own daughter over to the police.

If she didn't commit a crime, she wouldn't have been handed in by a "snitch" would she?

It's almost as if people WANT criminals to be prowling the streets taking whatever they want without being punished for it. And that makes me saddened and dejected by this society.

If my kid came home and says he raped and killed a 4 year old, then its obvious they're a very sick person and needs help, and should be locked away for their own safety, and the safety of the public.

But if my kid came home and says they looted some high street store, then I would punish them myself.
And donate their loot to a charity shop.

She also threw masonry at a police car and by the sounds of it in the article also threw it at the police, or was aprt of some attack on the police. It was more than mere looting, there was the intent to hurt other people.

I don't think people want criminals going unpunished, but there's something wrong when a parent hands their own offspring, their own flesh and blood over to a bunch of other criminals for punishment.

If she had persuaded her daughter to hand herself in then fair enough.
But to shop your own to the state is just wrong.

I don't mean too sound cold, but I have no love for the police or the authorities.

Neither do I sometimes, but on those nights they were only out to protect people and property. They were publicly (I can't think of a good word right now but, looked down upon) for not acting hard enough and using force on them. She was not giving them a taste of their own medicine, she was not doing the exact thing they were... showing restraint.


The fact that they showed too much restraint is neither here nor there. So I do not agree with that statement, she was out to steal and cause damage and harm to people who were only trying to protect others. These are the same riots where a man defending his shop was beaten and later died, the same riots where three men were run over for protecting their shops, the same riots where paramedics were too scared to leave a house with a baby that had been fitting and had to wait around an hour before police support could get through the rioters and escort them to hospital.

What she did was wrong and she knew it, she got exactly what she deserved.

I think the root of the difference in opinion is double standards, let me say again I don't think there is a right side here, and anyone that has never made a mistake this doesn't pertain to you, you are perfect

anyone else I am really saddened to hear how quickly people will throw their own family under the bus for one mistake, keeping in mind she was going to be in the Olympics, that's no easy feet, not just athletically speaking, but the mental strength and determination to rise to that level

with that being said, what I mean by the double standard is, how many people in government, in authority, or just the people actually enforcing the laws, are actually held accountable to these laws themselves as well as their corporate masters/sponsors.......this is the major difference between the two sides in this thread

so the question I guess is "why should I turn my family over to the authorities when they themselves get away with breaking the very laws they created themselves"

its this double standard that those in authority can get away with much more then the average joe can, that is creating self policing point of view

She wasn't going to be in the Olympics, she was going to be an Olympic ambassador, i.e. she was going to be representing her community as an upstanding member of her community during the Olympic festivities. Something she clearly didn't deserve.

As for people saying that the mother of this girl has ''ruined her career''. LOL !

She's a promising athlete, not an aspiring magistrate !

Sportspeople don't tend to go through normal interviews and criminal record background checks in their profession.

Incredibly enough, their career success is defined by athletic endeavours and performances, not on whether they spent a couple of months in the clink when they were a teenager.


There were quite a few of these stories of relatives shopping suspected perpetrators, actually:

Manchester riots: Disgusted Worsley mum 'frogmarched' her 18-year-old son to police station

Manchester riots: 14-year-old who stole £1 pack of chewing gum is turned in by his mother

Salford riots: Mother shops her 15-year-old 'looting son'

Mother hands her son into the police after spotting his image

14-year-old Wolverhampton girl escorted to a local police station by an uncle who suspected her of coming home with stolen clothing

The chewing gum one's a classic.

Seriously though, I think this shows that a lot of those involved weren't necessarily badly brought up, but just got drunk on the adrenaline and caught up in the herd mentality.

Mom knows her daughter best. Maybe for this girl, any other punishment would have little effect.

Do we know the entire story of this, besides mom turning in daughter who is a delinquent? Of course not. There is a line where "throwing your child under the bus" is necessary for the child. To me, the daughter sounded like she was acting quite entitled. Mom, not knowing any other way to get it through her dense childs head that looting is not conducive to a civilized society, did the right thing. Does the daughter deserve a record? YES! Does the daughter deserve a friendly reminder the rest of her life that she screwed up? YES! There was nothing done by that daughter that was beneficial. Her punishment, as well as fines and a short imprisonment, should also include community service in the affected areas while wearing a large placard stating she was a delinquent.

And trust in the family... I could trust my parents would punish the hell outta me if I screwed up. I could also trust that they would call the cops on me if I was involved in something like rioting. Trust is secondary to RESPECT. And this daughter has/had no respect for authority figures, including her mother, and society as a whole. Will she learn respect? Doubtful, because obviously she doesn't have a clue about consequences for ones actions. Well she's getting a taste now.

Thank you mom for making an awfully tough decision of what is right and what is wrong. Just because something is your flesh and blood, does not give them free reign to terrorize the neighborhood with no repercussions.

It takes a lot to admit there is something wrong with your family..

I commend this woman for doing something rather than let her daughter get away with it.
