I see this as Atheist suppressing the rights of Christians to express themselves.. I know Liberals hate Christians, I aint to fond of them myselves.. but this is clearly an unprovoked assault on their faith. It's a memorial.. if they want a cross, let them have a damn cross and sit down and shut the hell up for once.

Damn progressives .. if they are not ruining someones day or pissing on a parade, they simply aren't happy.

This is the third thread today where people have demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of how the Constitution works. In this case, it is a complete misunderstanding of the First Ammendment, more specifically the Establishment Clause. As a public service to those members completely misinformed and as a friendly effort to help them from making complete fools of themselves, I'll do my best to explain it.

I go by cases won in court.

More has been established by cases setting precedence - - - then the argument you always present.

I'm sure there were some Atheists that died too. We know there were faiths besides Christian.

The lawsuit is about Equal Rights to display symbols from all beliefs.

...this is not a constitutional issue...

...seperation of church and state is not applicable in this case...

Religion is pushed down peeps throats. I have dealt with it my whole life. We are all allowed our own opinions in the USA. Save your selfish thoughts for the other brainwashed people. We are all SOLD OUT here.

Perhaps this opinion gets me some hate, but perhaps Atheists would do well to recall what nation they are living in and what majority faith controls it by such a wide margin, the whole discussion is almost moot.

Christians that advocate rape and murder control the US? How very sad for the US. That is too bad. You guys should get those other types of Christians. I hear there is a whole group of them that is against things like rape and murder. They might do a better job with the US.

Your post intrigues me. You list two groups of people that want something and then say one group deserves what they want and the other does not deserve what they want without actually offering a reason why one group's desire is more important than another groups desire?

As a Liberal I don't hate christians or anyone else for that matter. Lets just respect each others views and get along. Life is to short for hate.

OK.
Was this in response to anything in particular or did you just want to share that with me?

So if Atheist died .. there won't be a symbol, since Atheism has none?

Put up a Star of David, Cross and Cresent Moon ...... Atheist will still have a hissy fit.
It's an attack on Religion, mostly Christian since the vast majority that died were Christian, but an attack on all religions none the less.

The thing that people miss is that the atheists called for either equal representation or none at all. The cross can stay as long as a Star and Crescent, a Star of David, an Atom, and a Dharma Wheel is added as well.

Equality-mania. That sounds like "We cant make a movie without including a black person, a homosexual and a disabled person for equal representation". What a load of nonsense. It would be similar if it were said "you cant display an atheist book in the shop window without also showing religious books".

You can damn well display an atheist book only. You can damn well put up an atheist symbol (sickle and hammer for example
) on a building and no others. Likewise you can also only put a cross at a commemoration spot. And it is OK if blacks only or whites only or women only play in a movie.

Putting a cross somewhere is a traditional way of many Americans to commemorate an event. So you practice tolerance and let them do it.

Then put up an atheist symbol there. Simple as that. More is achieved by representing ones own views rather than fighting others.

Deny any religion or lack of religion and you offend someone.

Put up a Cross. you offend Atheist.
Don't put up a cross. you offend Christians.

(it can be done with any religious symbol)

Since this is not a separation of church and state issue, imo, it comes down to simple numbers. The majority that died were Christian. Fact. There should be a cross. There were Jews and Muslims that died as well .. put up their symbols.

We could put a symbol up for Atheist too ....... but they don't have one, so there isn't a reason to bitch.

But to deny the 95% or so who identified with a religion of some kind to appease the very small minority that claimed to be Atheist is absolutely wrong. Atheism IS a theological belief .. it's no different than saying we can't have a cross we can only have a star of david since there was a minority that was Jewish. No different.

As a Deist myself, I am certain that at the end of every life on that day they prayed to a God in some fashion.

(Edit to Add: Since the attack was a result of religious mania to begin with, the memorial should, imo, focus on the uniting of all religions under the ideology of accepting other's personal beliefs. Atheism would of course be excluded since it's an oxymoron.)

Yeah thanks but I only asked why you would pick which group to offend.

Where do you get your facts? I never saw any proof that most people that died were Christian.
The Atheist symbol is the Atom which you would know if you read the article. What do you think they were asking be put up?

But to deny the 95% or so who identified with a religion of some kind to appease the very small minority that claimed to be Atheist is absolutely wrong.

Just making up that 95% number seems a little wrong too. You always lie in the name of baby Jesus?

I guess you do not know what "theology" actually is then?

Its an attack on Atheists and other beliefs by Christians - - - if symbols of other beliefs are not included.

Here is a government list of official symbols. Yes the Atheist symbol is included.

By all means...... prove me wrong.

The Atheist symbol is the Atom which you would know if you read the article. What do you think they were asking be put up?

If you imply religious symbolism to a non-religion you make it a ... religion. Like Buhdism without the moral guidance.

Just making up that 95% number seems a little wrong too. You always lie in the name of baby Jesus?

I'm not Christian, and you're ignorant. Again, by all means... prove me wrong that at least 95% of all people who died believed in some form of religion.

Yeah that is all great and wonderful but you never did answer the only question that I actually asked.

If you were not so ignorant you would have read: Atheism deserves to be "offended" because it's not a religion and represented the smallest number of people.

And ultimately why do Atheist care? Seriously..

Those that died are dead. They were souless bodies of flesh that have passed away and are no more.. they don't live eternally, they had no God, they are not in heaven, they simply died. Animals that had an unusually high intelligence who happened to be murdered. They can't care there is no symbol for them since well, they were atheist and didn't believe in such things. So why do living atheist care? You want to erect a memorial to souless animals who happened to be murdered? "Human" is no special term for us, we are only a species, when we die its just endless black, no "other side" no "god" to protect us.. so why give a crap?

Simple. Like most atheist you're so insecure with your own disbelief in belief that you have to have it plastered everywhere, in every attempt to undermine the belief systems of others through overt expression of challangment to another belief. In short, the non-religious use religious methods to subvert other religions through aggression, usually fueled by anger and bitterness toward the established religions. Really it's quite pathetic.. a real atheist who didn't believe in God or anything spiritual simply wouldn't give a crap about what symbol was on a wall memorializing the dead who can't care to begin with.

I care about religion affecting government/laws and any kind of political power. Very simple.

Allowing one specific religious symbol - - - is unacceptable - - - as it gives prominence to a specific belief.
