I just saw Home Secretary Theresa May in the news and heard what she said about the riots

If this is the official response to the uproar in the streets - if repression and defamation is all they give to these kids - things like this will happen again and more violent, bigger and stronger.
Those Kids are like dogs... beat them long enough and they will eventually bite you.

It's time we the people stood up to this mindless violence in England. Many of us have conspiracy theories about government and do not agree with the way global economies run, however, this is just mindless violence targeting innocent hard working, tax paying, law abiding citizens and shopkeepers. The police in England have been totally emasculated and suffered savage cuts by the governement. The Police should not be the target here. Regardless of the socio-economic situation in England, it is time, we the people stand up to mindless yobs and thugs who are hell bent on anarchy and destruction. This country needs to be reclaimed by the majority that is multi-cultural, hard working and honest. This is not an ethnic situation, regardless of race, creed, colour, or sexuality, it's time for the good to make a stand against an aborhent situation and feckless yobs.

Take your point, but I would say 'cautious' rather than nervous (though tonight they have every right to be nervous). A policeman should be cautious. Indiscriminate use of physical force is not something to be treated lightly. There's a bigger and better reason the police are standing off in my view - they are completely outnumbered and cannot engage. If they are seen to be routed by the mob on even one occasion it will inspire other mobs to take the police on. They cannot afford to be seen as weak, and they don't have enough manpower to send in the cavalry if a unit gets overrun because they're stretched too thin across the city. If the can 'snatch' a yob safely they will. Otherwise they will just try and contain the mobs to a given area.

I've been watching this with horror and I've tried to see what mindset these youths are in as they destroy everything before them. Firstly, yes, the riots started with the death of a man in a taxi by the police, but now I'm thinking that with this economic wasteland that is looming ahead of us all, then maybe these kids are thinking that , well we have never had any money, never will have any money, might as well take something I could never afford or ever will in the future. Chris Evans(BBC radio 2) all morning kept saying money will be worthless soon, and he's got millions.
But now of course it's got way out of hand and all this burning and destruction....Hopefully the kids will get tired soon and sod off to bed.

BBC News have stated that there are disturbances in not only London and Birmingham but also Liverpool and Manchester also, it is spreading across the country.

Prime Minister Cameron is on his way back to chair and emergency meeting. Do we think he will declare a state of emergency to get the Army on the streets??

Is there a revolution going on that I wasn't informed about?

I disagree with the looting but what if the time is now?

I think perhaps you are right, maybe even both theories are correct. Officers already cautious of attacking, also worried about how the media will report it. Also knowing they are severely outnumbered and not only face serious injury for engaging in 'combat' for lack of a better word but also inciting more rioting if they are shown to be retreating.

Those things together could indeed lead to a police force who wont apply much force if they can avoid it.

This riot was predicted 11 days ago, when they closed all the youth clubs in the inner-city's over night with no warning.

Farewell youth clubs, hello street life – and gang warfare

With budget cuts leading to the loss of facilities that kept many inner-city youths occupied, experts predict a rise in crime

There is one thing wrong in your statement. Never Forgive! You must forgive or we will be no better then them. We must evolve beyond the hate, greed, and separatism. All must understand or it will not change!

Did anyone else hear the guy shouting out in the background on BBC news 24 while the MET chief was giving that interview?

ETA: Really should go to bed cause I've got work tomorrow, but just can't drag myself away!

It's now 01:37 GMT and it's only getting worse!

Update:
My mate finally got in touch from Birmingham. The reason he didn't answer his phone was because a group of youths (mainly black - his words not mine - attacked his apartment building, which is a good building with security guards etc. They were overwhelmed. The only reason they didn't get hurt was because you need a key to use the lift (elevator).
