They should really allow parents do discipline their children and the same for school, I say bring back the cane(yes I am part of their generation and ask for it) If I move out of line, I want to be disciplined for it, just as I was. I learnt a lot from it, respect and more! I know people that were not disciplined at all and they think they are on top the world, better than anyone else and not one ounce of respect(my age) and it's awful.

They have restorative justice programs in Banbury, so it's not something that isn't already in practice. Small groups go around in gitmo style boiler suits cleaning grafitti and other public areas. Prison is the last place some of these kids need to go. As you say it's a criminal education camp. These kids have to be faced with the reality of what they have done, otherwise it's a slap on the wrist a small fine and forgotten about in a month or 2.

See the problem is, our politicians and lawmakers like to say that our justice system and penal system is based on rehabilitation, but when there just isn't the money, staffing or facilities to do it (because we waste billions on wars and dealing with serious crimes such as possession of marijuana etc) then people just end up in a loop of prison, probation officer, prison, criminality, prison.... and they're not even long enough sentences to really work with these offenders, not that I believe that prison is the place to really do it anyway.

The whole system in our country is ****ed mate.... seriously.
Too much priority on money and financial costs, look at the cancer drugs that people can't get because it's too expensive.... and also a young felon is judged and weighed up by cost alone, nothing else.

Yes people need protecting, first and foremost, but also what good does it do to lock a 17-18 year old up who breaks a window or steals a pair of shoes.
We're gonna see thousands of young people get prison sentences over this and as you say, they should get community service sentences and find out what it's like to go through what they've put people through.

But it would cost too much..... It's not practical..... it's too soft....


Judging by many of the posts on here, we should be shooting them or locking them up for life?

People really need to realise that these problems are so deep, so widespread and complex, that simply locking up kids will not only not help the situation, but actually make it much, much worse.

But then I'm a bleeding heart, liberal, lefty lunatic who just wants to give my country away to foreigners and muslims and so on.... what do I know?

The riots have set race relations back 30 years, the fighting on this forum is only the tip of it, this is pure gold for Nick Griffin.

The rioter should be rounded up
and a firing squad used on all of them.

Shoot them with shotguns..

If they want to use live rounds that is fine,
I suggest rubber bullets and bean bags..

Get them to do national service, pick up litter or paint over graffiti 40 hours a week.

Imagine the embarrassment if they had to tidy up the area where they lived. The whole area would be laughing at them. Thats much more powerful than prison.

Because you know.. shooting people never makes for more violence... I seriously doubt this would help in any way.... I agree with people saying they should have to clean up and rebuild the mess they made in their own neighbourhoods. Public humiliation, Best.Lesson.Ever.

My two cents, I don't condone any of these "riots", however I can sympathize with some of the nature of these riots and level of frustration that these people must feel.

Can you imagine after watching the financial system receive publically funded bailouts from your hard earned tax dollars to a system that crashed because of its own greed.

These bailouts paid funded by having the social fabric of your community torn apart, reduced funding to youth, and youth programs, your employment cut, benefits removed, your unemployment cheques run out, you have to feed your kids, a roof over your head, etc, etc.

Do I think this accounts for all the many reasons of why these are taking place in England, no I don't. But I do think this plays a role. I don't think this story is being told enough.

We have many examples of this in our western society that have had a similar tone

On the subject of guns in the UK I thought it worth pointing out that to obtain a firearm licence in the UK you must pass a psychological evaluation - we don't want armed nutters wondering the streets. From what I can see, it appears that some countries are less fussy about who they allow to get their hands on a firearm. Perhaps these countries shouldn't be so surprised when one of these unstable individuals goes out and shoots people...

A LOT of bridges were built last night.

Sikhs had their temples open to EVERYONE and they escorted scared people home or made a cuppa for them in the temple.

All sides stood together to protect each others homes.

There were racial tensions in the area but after last night a lot of hearts have been melted.

Makes me very proud to be English and a part of this community

I am hearing that , but all they really did was smash a few shop windows, and take 'stuff' from shops . Shops arent 'their ' community at all. To them the shops they hit hardest are 'big brother' trying to rip them off.
The question I have got is why were the police doing so little about it? They were stood there as if guarding the activity.

Exactly mate.... people have constantly tried to play the race card throughout this incident and keep blaming blacks and immigrants and all the rest of it.

But this has pulled people together.


This is a YOUTH problem.... colour, race, religion and all that does NOT come into this at all.

Tell me about it, I volunteered for the probation service over a year ago, been on numerous training courses passed 2 interviews, told I have the position and haven't heard from them since, They are so bogged down with paper work that either I've slipped off the radar or they have been too busy to get back in touch with me. The probation service has proved to me to be a utter joke. Run on a shoestring budget by what seems to be inept individuals.

I am all for the police using water cannons and tear gas on the rioters, but not plastic/rubber bullets.

Regardless of them being rubber/plastic they can still kill and the symbolism of Britain shooting it's rioting citizens isn't a good one, for what little image with have left in the world.

It will make us seem hardly any different than Bahrain or Syria.

The Brits are always calling the US a colony tongue in cheek. Maybe they should recruit some real street thugs from Detroit to come take over their streets for them. Just mention they burned down the KFC today, problem solved.
