Those would be protons and other high energy particles.

Here you can see the position of the magnetopause and the way the cme is pushing.

K-index of 8, this is the first time of cycle24 its reaching an A-index of +140, which results in major to severe magnetic storm. The planetary A index was reaching 207
We will see this more and more when the cycle reaches its maximum.

It's going to be "mostly cloudy" over my area tonight so I doubt I'll get to see any aurora.
It always seems to be cloudy here when these events happen.

Can we all concentrate on cloud-bursting the clouds over NE Wisconsin so I can enjoy the show too?

Soon as it is dark,.
should be around 9:30.
However if your in the city it may be a bit difficult to distinguish the actual aurora

We should be able to see auroras at any latitude, according to spaceweather.com's site.

Just find the darkest place in your area, and look outside after midnight local time...
We could all be in for a cool treat!

just imagine this was an X-Flare....we are really a lucky generation to be able to witness such events from the comfort of their home...we followed these CME's from their birth

we shall be having some X-Flares in the coming months...at least this is what I expect since we are closing on solar cycle 24...cant wait for that!!

the city has been having power issues all day. my lights have been flickering, my fans run at half speed...its crazy. There was even some really crazy buzzing and humming earlier as the lights sputtered. We were told by Peco that they are having blackouts in some parts of the city and power drains in other parts.

I have no idea if this is related but this immediately caught my attention when I logged in

Interesting I noticed that the titanium stiches in my right shoulder have been buzzing (yes buzzing) and also the titanium plate and screws in my tibia and fibula are also causing me weird discomfort. Its not the normal soreness that i am used too but like a vibration that i can actually feel. Also a buddy of mine who has knee issues with implantas was at the hospitol today because of pain (he had none a week ago) he was told bythe doc that he should not be in pain. Im gonna ask soem other people. Maybe we should start a thread Solar flares cause pain in healed injured

Sporadic power outages in the Camp Lejeune area. Lots of movement. I got the generator ready flashlights, NVGs and weapons loaded... I was having such a nice night too.

Although Solar flares have been happening for millions of years, man’s electromechanical technology hasn’t been affected until perhaps the last 50 years.
Now with satellite and internet communication being so vital, along with power grids that keep us cool, interruption of our electrical supply could be life threatening.

My area has been as well - The weird thing is, things have just cooled off, after record heat waves...This started happening yesterday...

Makes sense and explains why my computer and cell phone have all been acting up today.
