Much is stated in occult and esoteric philosophy about clarity/silence, however until initiation has been complete usually there is very little known as to the real nature and law underpinning this requirement.

When Man is born into the world he is a perfect entity, untainted by his environment. At this stage he is devoid of an ego or any form of opinion of himself. We watch children of this age learn with an amazing enthusiasm and at incredible speeds, we watch as they learn and form reality from what we teach them, and finally we watch them as they bloom forth from the seeds we've sown.

Once the child has reached manhood he is seen as others to be a fully formed individual, however he has become a tapestry of beliefs and opinions he has encountered along his way, this tapestry is his personal ego. Gone is his mastery of his mind, gone is the freedom to chop and change himself at will, his Ego has become crystallized and at this point is very hard to dismount.

The Esoteric students work usually begins here with the realization of the ego, and continues as he learns the art of its destruction. The removal of the ego has many names, depending on which path it is sought under, my two favorite being "Buddhist annihilation" and the "babe of the abyss". The ego holds all of the powers which bind man to earth, the ego contains all of the reasons man finds to put down his tasks and slip into lethargy, the removal of the ego will always lead to the revelation of the Divine as man himself without an ego (or his earthborn self) is Divine by nature.

I understand that I make light of the work required to attain to such a great feet, however my main concern for this entry is to give people an understanding of the concepts they'll come up against, as free as possible from my opinions so as to leave them with something they can actually use as they come up against it. This work can take months/years/lifetimes in some cases and is not to be taken lightly, the removal of one aspect of the ego will lead to the rise of another part to compensate and it is very easy for an initiate to fall victim to the illusion of the work being completed, when in fact the initiate must bare in mind at all times that the work is eternal, it never stops and never gives respite. There is only continuous advancement.

When the ego is manifest there is duality within the initiate, when the ego is removed there is only unity, the very essence of Divinity embodied, the collective being working towards a single goal unobstructed, the Initiate who has truly worked to free himself has restored the powers he had as a child but has also gained conscious operation of them, he can never be fully bound to the earth again. This is what The Christ, Jesus meant when he said, "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."

All Masters realize that the ego is temporal, and the only way towards enlightenment is to strip ourselves of that which makes us mortal and to crown ourselves in the glory of our births. We are of the Universe, but we are also the Universe, we are created but we are also creators, we are not either/or, we are both. When the Ego has been cast away what remains is the pure essence, if this transpires during incarnation then the Initiate becomes akin to The Christ, Jesus and inherits all of the powers therein, for most however it happens whilst they are discarnate as it is easier to distill the pure essence when one can see through pure eyes.

Do not fear the loss of yourself, instead realize that you have already lost yourself, set yourself to regaining that which you have already given up and work towards ruthlessly removing imperfection and the ego from your body, and in that day when you have turned the 3 into 2 and the 2 into 1 truly the words of the Great Khabir himself will be understood.

"When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter the kingdom."

I've spent all of today posting a number of works I've written on this. If you want to add me as a friend and take a look through some of the other articles I've written I'd be glad to advise you along your path to the best of my ability my friend. But remember it's not my role to do it for you. I can engage with you and assist you but that is all. Whatever your outcome is I will do all I can personally to help you achieve it.

I'll leave you with a quote by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. If this is truly what you want consider these words very very very carefully.

""My advice to you is not to undertake the spiritual path. It is too difficult, too long, and it is too demanding. What I would suggest, if you haven't already begun, is to go to the door, ask for your money back, and go home now, this is not a picnic. It is really going to ask everything of you and you should understand that from the beginning. So it is best not to begin. However, if you do begin, it is best to finish."

Cool post! Surely it should help some people out greatly! But as the Buddha said, there is no ego and there never was an ego. Our belief in an ego arises only because of a simple mistake in the way we look at reality. And as you said, this happens because of societal/environmental influences.

Peace.

You're absolutely correct
But none the less, real or imaginary it has been created and must be dealt with properly. In a very weird way its like trying to convince children there's no Santa Claus once they're old enough. They'll resist, imagine the worst scenarios possible like no Christmas presents ever, then eventually they'll see their parents love, the sacrifices that were made without mention for the child's belief and come to gain a greater appreciation of the whole because of the revelation.

A better start is "love your neighbour because he is your self".

Maybe it should go; 'Love yourself so that you may love others', which would lead to doing to others as you would wish them to do to you. Old stuff, forever valid.

the key issue of the ego removal is that trying to remove it, is still feeding the ego some attention.

and the ego loves attention

so any focus or obssession put on it, even if for removal purposes still fuels it

i still have an ego, it would be egotistical for me to say otherwise

i for one see the ego as a necessary companion to part of the journey, after all it is the ego that drives man to embark on a transcendental path, or even conceive and reach for something above him.

me, i pay the ego no mind, i dont care he is there, when he is gone the change will go unnoticed anyway.
i dont bother him he doesnt bother me.

to me the initiationawakening path is much like the space shuttle used to go into space.

the ignition and auxiliary rockets help the spaceship in its path and detach when their goal is complete

the ego is your fuel rocket for transcendence, dont worry about it, it will come off.

just dont add more fuel to the fire, specially by trying to put it out

relax, dont try

I agree with all of the points you have made brother. There is nothing wrong with what you say. However I see it as the ego in most people is rendered invisible and confused with the actual self. This is when it starts running rampant and taking more control then it was intended for.

You're perfectly right, the ego is a support structure that should fall away but the problem we have is that, to use your analogy, we're all ready for lift off but the pilots fu*ked off and is no where to be found. People would rather serve the ego then have the ego serve them and that is always going to cause severe problems when it comes to any form of spiritual growth.

I see it as a secondary entity that is a filter to our awareness, basically, the ego is a kind of "front" or "stage" and our real self is behind the stage, however, our awareness is trapped in a hall of mirrors called the "Ego".

Exactly but I make the distinction of classing it's elements as living, independent beings with their own personalties. This is why the ego can seem to be very changeable in people as one element gains dominion over another the quality of the expression changes. Ego manipulation is primordial alchemy.

If we destroy the ego totally, then we cease to exist as an individual.

What about the concept of mastering ourselves? That is saying to be the best that we can be. To live up to our fullest potential and accomplish what we were set out here to do.

After all, we are all unique individuals for a reason. There is no denying that each of us have a distinct personality, just as our DNA is all unique.

Without the ego, we are all the same, we are not individuals, but as ourselves cease to exist, we are meaningless. I will agree that at a certain level we are all connected, whether you call in through mass consciousness or lifeforce. But I do not see destroying the ego as something beneficial. Rather I see it as giving your will and power away to nothingness.

In a sense, destroying the ego is a form of spiritual and metaphysical suicide. You are in essence killing yourself.

Some posters on this thread want to keep their ego because they don't know what it is like to not have it.
When the ego (false self) falls away fear disappears. The anxiety and confusion end.
The ego is the cause of fear and panic.
Love is like the opposite of fear. So when the fear falls away love is revealed.

If you are lucky enough that the ego falls away you will not end up as nothing, no personality, you will find the real original you. But without fear. The fear is the only thing you will lose. What is seemingly gained is beyond your wildest dreams.
Peace and gratitude. Happiness and joy.

The ego "does"
The self "Is"

To be or not to be that is the question...

In my opinion, you can't get rid off your ego....this is an illusion well fabricated by some people that teach stories.
The ego is an integrated part of the three dimensional world we live, it is part of the physical deal we have taken when we born again in this world.
To reach the true self as such you have to have an ego platform...excuse me but you can't just born perfect, no one born perfect. You go around in life trying to minimise your ego actions to the best of your capabilities.
When you experience a so called spiritual phenomena, never forget that the ego was the initiator of it as you use him to get to the next level of spirit balance in physical world.
And then when this experience is stock in the past, guess who is running your life now...yes your ego.
Do not fear your ego, you are bigger them him...you need this platform to reach total ego and self balance.
And remember nothing in life happen by mistake, your ego existence is so vital for you to comprehend your role in this never ending birth and death cycle.
The best way to control your ego is to observe it.
This is what people call the emancipation of the soul of man.
