Your post is on the point.
To his credit, Clinton recently recognized one of his failures - his promotion of the globalist club WTO from the POV of the Third World countries involved, like Mexico.
Clinton was basically a neo-liberal from an economic POV - whether you like classic Dem politics or not, his administration was much more monetaristic than his campaign rhetoric. Essentially, he failed to create national health care during eight years although that was partly why people had voted for him.
Dems on the left sometimes called him a Republicrat.
His handling of the Balkans crisis also invites negative comments to this day, although the man has his merits.

The TP is another issue - while they are right about some disctinct points, mainly critical points of government power etc. I think their populism is dangerous, their rhetoric is nationalistic, and, if elected, they would not really challenge the issues of Reaganite deregulation, or change the lowering taxes for the rich and corporations (GWB), which causes have certainly contributed to America's bad finances. On the whole, I find them quite a bit fanatical, idelogical, and allied to fundamentalist Christianity (which I think is no better than jihadism within Islam).

If they want me to vote for them, they would have to convince me that they are sober, sane citizens, who have better alternatives from the bottom up, and not just a bunch of shouting fanatical brownshirts who subscribe to a radical vision of standard GOP issues. Also, their mindless attacks on Obama unfortunately do not exclude some element of racism.
Otherwise, it would be time for the US to have some bottom-up thinking rather than only top-down.

Well, then we shall see if liberals vote Obama out in 2012. This should be very interesting. Who would you replace him with? You say Obama is centrist? How is that? What I'm doing is insulting you based on direct evidence that people who think like you in regards to the Nazis are uneducated... it's just truth, you cannot have different facts, only opinions.
