Thats where you're wrong. I'll tell you how it goes.....

Rahm Emanuel is an Israeli born Jewish mayor who had a strict Jewish upbringing, did 4 years military service, and has kids of his own who are also old school educated. His goal is to clean up Chicago's crime starting with the kids and getting the youngsters off the streets at night when they should be at home safe and sound just like Rahm Emanuel's own kids. The Chicago mayor can't distinguish between his own kids and yours because he has cause for concern when parents allow their youngsters to roam the streets getting in to all sorts of problems and strife through lack of proper parenting and/or neglect that Rahm Emanuel and I would regard as lazy irresponsible parenting.

Now.....

no one here can give me a good explaination as to why a youngster would be out roaming the streets late at night unless the kid is regularly abused at home, has no where to turn to and it's not possible to return. Can anyone enlighten me for any other reason why a kid is out on the streets after dark?

If you can't be a responsible parent, either make your kid a ward of the state or better still just don't have them. If you truely love your children you'll do whats in THEIR best interests and not that of your own.

We all have instincts and principles but not all have good morals. Know the difference!!!!

No one needs to tell you how to bring your children up if you are a responsible parent.

Oh, I see. 'Ol Rahm just wants to be a nanny to all the little children of Chicago.

Well isn't that special!

Like I said, Chicago elected him so they can learn to live with it.

I completely agree with this decision.

It clearly states UNSUPERVISED Children UNDER the age of 12 years old.

Chicago is a big rough and dangerous city.

Remember that it holds the title of Murder Capital of the US.

Most of this is due to inner city Gang violence which is rampant.

Kids are being recruited into these gangs at much younger ages these days.

By getting these young kids off the streets and inside it will help keep these kids out of trouble and also to help

quell the gang's indoctrination process.

Not the governments place to post a curfew, IT SHOULD BE THE PARENTS ACTUALLY DOING THIS

But I forgot that lots of parents simply don't parent any longer, they allow the television and computer do it for them.

Curfew....

Can't imagine people even remotely thinking of accepting this in our country unless we're under martial law or something..

I agree kids don't belong on the streets at certain ages and times but it's not upto the city to decide.

But then again our country doesnt have 7000 (reported) murders per year.

I'm always for less government in our lives, and firmly believe in leaving parenting to parents.
That being said, I lived in Chicago for fifteen years, and the school I attended was in a notoriously bad part of the city.

I walked and rode my bike through areas at all hours of the night.
I could never believe how many little kids (some in diapers) that were out wandering at 3:00 A.M.
I would take the bus sometimes, and there would be kids that looked to be 6-7 waiting at the stop with me.
No adults, no parents.

My ride was about 25 minutes to my apartment, and those kids would still be on the bus when I was getting off.

I know where these kids parents were, and what they were doing was illegal.

How would putting a curfew on these kids change their parents "habits"?

Neglect of a child still comes under Child abuse! Thats when Child Welfare needs to step in and take the kid away.

"Took your tail"?

Growing up from such an early age with your freedoms of the world cut short by a Higher authority (the government) is, suffice to say, NOT good for a developing mind, one that is to grow as a freethinking individual able to assess the risks of life independantly, and act accordingly.

Parents can't let that level of responsibility bestowed upon them upon the act of reacting life, a profound but underlooked level of responsibility and paternal authority, STRIPPED from them by such inexplicably useless, money-grabbing laws.

I don't live in Chicago, or even the USA. This issue is addressed on a universal level.

Not only should they get the kids off the streets everywhere, they should get every person off the streets, we should have enough empty housing to fill up by now. Unfortunately a lot of parents these days are still growing up while raising thier children, lots of babies having babies. All we see and hear is sad, scary, or depressing in america. Focus on the bigger most important issues and the rest will fall in place.

It amazes me that we need to take tests and show proper aptitude for driving a car, carrying a weapon, practicing professions (law, medical, etc) but any jerk can just pop out a kid.

Its not even dark here at 8:30 and I have an eleven year old. In our little community there are four or five girls and boys that roam and play right here on our yards and neighborhood streets. i dont need any other person telling me how to raise my child. Especially some criminal that got his job through auction. when they start doing stupid stuff like this it only hurts the good. I for one know I do not have a "representative" in government.

I didn't miss that one. I would say that's exactly why some Chicago kids might be hanging out on the streets at night. For them the streets are as safe as home.

I grew up in Gary IN, Chicago's industrial crime ridden neighbor. In my neighborhood an 8 year old paper boy was caught carrying a gun. He said the junkies were taking his collect money.

I had to laugh when you mentioned kids in diapers. My taxi driving hubby and I saw a baby in diapers looking both ways to cross a street in the projects at 2 am. He was going over to a yard full of little kids. When we pulled up they all looked at us like if we made a move their way we'd be real sorry. These kids are pretty street wise they look out for each other. If anything this curfew is more about protecting adults from all the kids out after hours while mom's working or dad's partying.

These kids do need some place healthy where they can go when their parents are doing god knows what. How about neighborhood safe houses etc. I can't believe they finally razed that hell hole cabrini green. We got lost over there once. Even during the day it wasn't someplace you wanted to be.

Don't bother arguing... he/she's clearly a proudly irresponsible parent.
