Yes, stars sometimes form shapes, why else would we have constellations with all the names and lore associated with them?

The "crucifix in 8191 theory" seems far fetched, since, IMO, a cross is VERY often seen on the sky..besides i dont think/know it had any significance at THOSE times.

However, you are quite right with your observations about Orion etc...of course, one main reason the Egyptians had a keen eye on Sirius/Orion etc...
