Great topic for a poll!

Why isnt the poll on the main screens like the previous ones? Are non-members still allowed to participate?

Cant wait to see these results... lol

The infection is greed, nepotism, ego, and spending like drunken sailors on shore leave.

The above would of been sufficient without all the nasty remarks and attacks.

I would ask you for examples for all of the above at the Federal level, but I know that asking you to back up statements you make means I'm a troll, or a baby bird...or something. God forbid I expect people to back up what they say and prove their statements.

I'm willing to be your outlet with your anger issues, but at some point you should seek help.

Which is exactly why I won't participate.

Just like I don't participate in Fox News polls...if someone wants to get an honest opinion, they would present it in an unbiased way. If they want to show some "results" to back up their own ideology, then they will create the poll to do just that.

Even for ATS, this poll was biased. Why should you presuppose that the limit be increased at all? All of your questions seem to express that bias toward deepening our economic hole.

I can't prove it, but something tells me that you would take a poll on MSNBC.com though, no? There are no "unbiased" polls these days when it comes to anything relating to politics, and it's crap. Remember that poll CNN had that they decided to not report on that had Ron Paul at #1, but decided to use a different one from a different site that had 60 or so votes with Romney in the lead and Paul at 0%?

I rarely take any polls, I rarely watch MSNBC. Believe it or not, I mostly watch Fox News, just for the fact that I think it is important to hear the propaganda being spread so I know where it comes from when I hear it repeated.

I have taken a few phone polls...if I thought a question seemed biased, I would either give no answer or hang up.

But thanks for the assumption

I took the survey, YAY!

Ok, so one of the questions, I felt, could have used another choice:

President Obama
Republicans/conservatives
Democrats/liberals
Tea Party
Conservative-focused news media
Liberal-focused news media
Alternative Independant Media (Like ATS): I would have selected Virtuos...of course.

Ok, but what would make *this* poll unbiased in your opinion? Would it be more unbiased if it had some context in it ensuring that is wasn't Obama bashing? (because that's biased imo) I'm just curious because I'm not sure you've looked at the poll in this thread.

I just took the poll and found it to be lacking in a choice of view points.

The proper solution to the debt crisis is to outright default on the debt, not raise taxes, and significantly cut spending, while at the same time NOT raising the debt ceiling.

This view point was not represented in the pre-formatted questions, which were largely down party lines.

The republicans want to raise the debt limit, the democrats want to raise the debt limit, but people like me see raising the debt limit as simply making the nation's disastrous economy that much worse.

When ATS produces a biased poll and at the same time exhorts it's members to "Deny Ignorance" ...

See the disconnect here?

What is biased about it tho? I'm trying to figure out where that is coming from.
It seems that the general opinion of those who oppose the poll feel this is a right leaning poll.

Mnemeth1 did point out that there wasn't enough options for those who feel the debt ceiling shouldn't be raised, ok good feedback. What do you think should be added/subtracted to the poll to make it seem less biased? I honestly did not see a left or right political leaning agenda in it. The questions were pretty cut and dry about the debt ceiling.

So the pic in the OP is what the hoopla is all about? Perhaps SO should replace it with George Bush, because a lot of sensitives aren't even looking at the poll over it.

To start off with, the big picture of Obama all by himself with a sign that says "Send Cash".

But the individual questions are misleading and biased.

For example the first question, the big bold text:

If the United States does not raise the debt ceiling by August 2nd, the country will officially be in default, potentially triggering another more serious round of financial troubles across the globe.

I agree with that statement 100%...but then there is smaller print.

Do you wish to see the default happen in the hopes that global socioeconomic and political change may finally happen?

100% disagree. The first time I read the poll, I just skimmed it and didn't even read the small print. Yes, I know that is my fault...but it is by design.

But wait....there's more.

President Obama has been attempting to influence the nature of the deal that would allow the debt ceiling to be raised.
What is your opinion of the job he's doing?

Of course he is...everyone is. It doesn't say a thing about the compromises he has agreed to...which leads us to the question 4.

The liberals/Democrats are focused primarily on increased revenue/taxes as a condition for raising the debt ceiling.
What is your opinion of this approach?

100% False and misleading.

And this is where I decided I won't take part in this "poll". I don't even have an option to say if I agree if that is their approach...just if I approve of it or not. If that WAS their approach, I wouldn't approve of it...but IT IS NOT. So I can't honestly answer that question. The poll states things as FACT which in reality are not facts, but opinions or media spin.

The Dems have proposed just as many cuts and decreases in spending as the Republicans...The Dems have been saying they want BOTH. It's only the Republicans that absolutely refuse to increased taxes along with the cuts.

And then the only question that actually ask about our opinion of raising the debt ceiling

Do you believe the debt ceiling should simply be raised to a reasonable level without condition?

I would have to answer no, I do think there should be conditions on it.

But I 100% beleive that it needs to be raised.

But I can see the Topic Headline now...."X% Of ATS members don't think the debt ceiling should be raised!!!".

If you can't see biased in any of the above, I say take a closer look.

This:

Ok, that's a fair point I suppose if you have insider knowledge of dems wanting to cut spending. This is exactly what the media is spinning, and this *was* my view of the liberal focus as well. Perhaps you're right, but we really can't claim to know all the small details because of how all of the politicians tend to lock themselves in their important rooms while leaving us in the dark.

Just as a side note however, the same exact question was asked about the republicans in terms of spending cuts. Perhaps the question should have been "Do you agree with the spending cut approach or increase taxes approach, or both, or none let it default?"

The whole poll is biased towards raising the limit, with the only discussion points being how/why to justify doing it. That is an extreme bias imo because raising the limit the several previous times is what got us here. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over with the expectation of a different outcome. It is time to do something different.

I'm pretty much right there with you when it comes to the debt ceiling. I wish the question was raised as well, however I'm not sure how that alone makes it biased, at least politically. Who is it biased torward? Dems? Republicans? Both of those parties want to see it raised. Well, except Ron Paul, so maybe it was biased toward him. Gather the pitchforks!
