It's annoying when an OP spits the dummy when some people don't
agree with their opinions; how often do we see the OP storm off in
a huff leaving the last two-thirds of a thread floundering and off-topic?

Should be penalty for abandoning/derailing the very topic you have
brought up. It's bad parenting.

On another issue, I can't for the life of me remember how you 'Flag'
a post; have done it in the past, but now can't see what to click on!

Took me awhile too to figure it out. Click next to FLAGS at the top left of beginning of the thread. and to the right click that, then it be red and ask if you want to unflag it.

Thanks! But that's doesn't seem to be working here - wouldn't 'un-flag' be the opposite of flag?

In real time, this sort of behavior is rather like someone starting a conversation face to face. Than before they have any reply to their question or comment they just turn around and walk away leaving one standing there with a dumfounded look, and thinking, what was that all about. One just has to shrug it off and carry on. Somewhere there is an intelligent conversation taking place that one might be interested in joining.
I'm busy this morning. But I'll be around again sooner or later. Have a good one. Later S.

After you click on flag, you'll see this:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/dc529256d45a.jpg[/atsimg]

Click on it again to un-flag the thread thus taking away the flag you previously gave.

I get a kick out of the thread hosts that troll you even if you agree with them. One example is I posted on a thread created by a member I usually disagree with. I agreed with them though and explained that I liked their thread and shared my point of view which mirrored what their OP was all about.

I was surprised when they came back at me with childish insults as if I had insulted them or argued against their point. I have seen this countless times. I usually remember who the member is and just avoid there threads once it happens. I mean, come on, really! Troll someone who was civil and agreed with you?

Those are the worse OP's in my opinion.

That's good - 'un-flag' will remove the flag I've given the thread!

But how do I flag it in the first place? It's probably obvious, but
I just can't see it (although, I have in the past). The word 'Flags'
is not a clickable link.

Thanks!

Ah ha! Never mind, I see it now! The red 'UN-FLAG' has now changed
to a blue 'FLAG IT' ... don't know what was going on there.

I myself have not started to many threads ...
for many reasons ...
1 being I guess not fully understanding thread parenting etiquette...
the other being not having the time to create some bad arse slayer69 thread ...

I always thought you were just supposed to nurture the Topic for a couple of pages
until it matured with other members and takes on a life of its own.... then moves out when its 18

LoL, boncho... on first glance your response sounds sarcastic (which I respectfully submit that you are apt to at times!) But here your statement stands alone in all its simple wisdom. And I agree, for the most part-- for all of the genuine responses that is, even those that disagree with the original post; and yes even sarcasm (if the intent is pure and free of hate) and responses of humor/wit (the good-natured kind of course.) All of the above add depth to any discussion, and expand the learning curve for all participants. Contrast that with: a thread full of posters all agreeing, or saying 'S&F for the cool post' for 2 pages... B O R I N G ! LoL

So OP, you make a valid point. The Thread Starter should be a gracious host once he/she has invited us into the dwelling place of his idea. He should circulate the virtual room, mingle with kings and vagabonds alike, starring all genuine posts, and not just the ones that align perfectly with his/her thinking. After all, he who adamantly refuses to even entertain someone else's genuine viewpoint, is clearly someone who is feels his own viewpoint is in danger of crumbling.

So yeah, OP-ers-- this OP has brings up valid points on being a gracious host. Also, coffee and danish would be nice, but no need to pull out the fine lace and silver.

I think it also has to do with the thread topic IMO. I make threads sometimes and I don't want to respond nor do I care if anyone else does. I just have something to share or rant about and I want to be heard. If I get a realize cool if not so what and stars and flags are dumb dumb dumb I don't even understand them. It's like I didn't wet my pants all day in pre-K and the teacher put a gold star on the board for it

Good analogy good way of putting that. It is like having a conversation with someone and they just turn there back to you and walk away.

I always enjoy a good debate with those who disagree with me. If everyone agreed with you it would be a boring world. The only way you can ever learn something is through a good debate. Good way to learn a different perspective.

Well thats one way of looking at it. The op nurturing the thread and giving it direction. And then moving out when the kids are alright. Personally I like to be involved. I make a lot of effort to respond to all posts if I can. Sometimes its hard when you just don't know what to say.

Yes boncho got a star out of me. And you're opinion was well put. You ever go to a thread and no one flags or stars anyone so it spreads and no one does it?
