So can someone Please tell me why America is free?

I would like to start by says this idea and point of this post is not to bash / kick down the USA.

But I do think they need to ask some questions. I was reading the post about why everyone out side of America Hates them so. We all know that's not the case it's just the people have been brain washed and don't answer the simple things about what is going on in the good old USA.

Lets start with the Drinking age. Its only one of 5 places in the world you have to be over 21 to have a beer.

So does this give the people the right to be free and think or do what the government says is good for them because the government knows best.

Next point is a state by state ID law. Each state is different but the list is 72% of states now say its
law that everyone has to be ID in a bar supermarket ect to by beer no matter how old they are.

Now someone is going to say whats the big deal? Well the deal is someone that is above the drinking age
should not have to show papers in a free world. That's the point again about being free.

see if you can be out at night something easy everyone in a free country can do.

Nope over 71% of cities in America have a curfew. So in a free country Mom and Dad doesn't get to tell the kids what time to be home the government does.

You never have to fear government thugs kicking in your door. Well, not so much lately but an anonymous and unsubstantiated tip that something bad might be happening or a wrong address are perfectly acceptable reasons to have 30 paramilitary goons stick guns in your faces at 3AM, right?

Oh, I got one, as long as you have proper identification and pay the appropriate fees, registrations, taxes and have the applicable licenses you are free to move about the country....within certain boundaries of course. Can;t have you traveling anywhere now can we?

"Freedom" in America means that nobody, including the government, is allowed to stand in your way if you want to make a buck. You're actually encouraged to make as much money as you can, and build a personal fortune if you have the ability and luck to do it.

Yeah, there's religious freedom, too. But what we're really talking about here is the freedom to make money.

I just want to mention that for the majority of issues you might point to like our drinking laws and curfews, these regulations/laws have been written in blood. That is usually the case, I suppose, but in these examples it's truer than most. People were hurt, killed or otherwise violated repeatedly and in dramatic and public ways before laws like the Curfews are generally tolerated by the local population. By then, it's welcome as a last ditch effort to do something.

I know the TSA and Patriot Act can easily give the world the impression that Americans pass laws and establish more control just for the sake of doing it. Sometimes, there is even truth to that. The Patriot Act comes to mind... Outside of Washington, New York and the other major cities though...America really is full of good folks who don't tolerate this kind of crap initiated at the local level without some very pressing reasons that make it necessary.

Please just try and keep that in mind while looking past the absurd control based garbage of the past several years. This isn't America, this is an American Government off the rails and running out of control.

Freedom comes with responsibility. It is only possible with a rule of law to keep things under control.

The main thing to remember is that most laws stop people from infringing on others freedoms.

Anarchy is not Freedom even though it lets everyone do as they wish.

The debate the rest of the world sees is part of that Freedom. We don't bow to a Royal. We can call the President anything we wish with no punishment. We can spread any message we wish as long as it does not infringe on another persons Rights.

A big part of Freedom comes from the antithesis to the Socialist Ideal. Here the right of the individual is sacrosanct. When the rights of the whole trump the rights of the individual it becomes a pseudo-democratic system like we see in other countries. Only by protecting individual rights can we have any semblance of Freedom.

We are not really hated by the world. I recently saw a Poll from a good company taken worldwide that showed that even in France for instance, over 70% of those polled see us in a positive light.

Problem is the haters have very loud voices. It makes it falsely appear they are many, when in fact they are a tiny minority. Good things simply do not make the News often. That also skews the perceptions.

We are not on our way out by any means. The fear mongering people are either engaging in fear mongering for political reasons or they are not people of reasonable sensitivities and out of touch with reality.

Hate always gets the spotlight and reality seldom does.

We have ups and downs as leadership changes, that is true. It's part of a Free Society in fact. It is part of what keeps us cohesive. It may seem contradictory, but it is not.

Most who hate the US simply need to visit to find out the truth. Much of the hate is based on propaganda from those who hate freedom who wish to control everyone and force them to act as they wish. I think intelligent people know enough to ignore the hate that is spewed from Theocracies and Dictatorial governments and countries. They know radicals do not represent the views of even a tiny part of the population.

We have our share of haters of our own as does every Western Democracy if they tell the truth. They don't truly have any power though, other than things like spreading propaganda in a place like this one. Some are very accomplished liars and convincing, but liars all the same.

The debate that others see us engage in here is not part of how we fall apart, it is what binds us together. Many have made the foolish move of thinking the majority of us are not united. When need be, we can unite as a people locked arm in arm even though we engage in these debates.

The prediction of our demise is propaganda and wishful thinking from those who hate Freedom. Stay tuned for the next act in this play.

Oddly enough I was just talking to my new freinds from the Sudan just before writing this. We were discussing how well we get along despite our cultural differences. The Catholic Church brought them here as refugees, they are Muslim and I am Protestant and yet we get along just fine. He worked double shifts driving Taxi, started a business that is doing well and tells me he "loves America" and does not want to go back as they are "crazy" over there.

If you live in a state where you are "allowed" to own the same weapons as state and local police then you are a free citizen.

If not then you are a subject in a police state and not a free citizen. I suggest you start eliminating all politicians in your state or as many as possible before you are taken down. Oh wait...you would have no weapons. In that case go back to work slave.

England is by no means immune to government 'nannying' and laws restricting freedom but America seems to take it to a whole new level, what makes it worse though is Americans believe they have more freedom and liberty than the rest of us (Europe) when it seems really they don't and generally have less as a whole.

i think this is the problem. Because you can't cross I road you think none else can and because of that make a law that tells me I have to do what you say. Jwalking should never be a problem people should be free to cross the road

"I road"? Are you Rastafarian?

No, the point is, a law like that exists because it allows roads to not be congested with asshats just walking out in front of traffic.

Although it is quite common sentiment amongst the more juvenie among us to think that common sense laws like that are somehow impeding our 'freedom'.

Feel 'free' to move out to the woods if you dont want to be held to the standards for crossing a tax-payer funded road.

No one is truly free. We all depend on something whether it be a job or disablity or college loans. Freedom is a concept that lives inside the brian of the indivual if a person truly believes he or she is free than he or she is for that moment.
America is not free; it just has more freedoms than say China; unforunately those so called freedoms are restricted and dying.

The United States of America is not free, and arguably never was. Certainly those held in slavery would have been hard pressed to explain to you how America was free then, and of course, just because an Amendment was passed prohibiting slavery doesn't mean America is free today.

As long as people believe that natural unalienable rights are some sort of legal grant by government, America will never be free, and even if every single American came to understand that rights are inherent in all people, there is the matter of a grossly expanded government to deal with.

Just governments exist to either protect the rights of individuals, or failing that, to offer up an opportunity for a redress of grievances and some form of remedy for those grievances.

The United States of America, including local, state, and the federal government, do not even come close to being a just government.

After living and working in the USA for 5 years I can tell you first hand that it is the most regulated place I have ever been and I have travelled a lot. I needed ID to do just about everything, something that would be laughed at in europe. The cops were like stormtroopers all pumped up on roids and pretty menacing to boot. I remember a bumper sticker that said " obedience to the law is peace", that pretty much sums the place up. The people I met there thought they were free.They most definitely were not.
