I live in Louisiana and we were taught in high school that the Ancient Egyptians were all black and nothing but black. I can remember watching The Mummy film, thinking man Hollywood is racist.
Then I went to college and got to see pictures of Ramses and Hatshepsut's mummies.
This is Pharoah Ramses II

This is Queen Hatshepsut

This is a non-royal Egyptian mummy from Thebes

Then I saw this Nubian mummy.
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/9ede099ea4a5.jpg[/atsimg]
After seeing this I was totally confused. They didn't look anything like Nubians.
I stared at the images for a long time, thinking this can't be right, they don't even look Semitic. They should at least look like Semites or even maybe thick curly headed Greeks.
Then I learned something totally fascinating.
The Ancient Egyptians were still here and living in Egypt today as a small minority and they have cousins in other parts of North Africa and the Canary Islands.
We know them today as the Copts. They have survived as a tight knit community over the last two millenia due to their faith, similar to the Assyrians and the Chaldeans who also still exist as small minorities in Arab dominated countries.
Like their cousins, the Berbers and Guanches, they have intermarried with migrants over the millenia, but they still possess some phenotypical traits that pop up time to time that stand out from Semitic or Sub Saharan African traits.
If one looks at Guanche and Berber mummies from millenia ago, similar style hair, skin, and skull features appear, the same kind of features found on the mummies of Ramses and Hatshepsut.

I stayed open minded about the subject while I learned about it and then researched more on my own. I didn't dismiss it out of hand due to it not meeting my expectations. Instead it opened my eyes to more possibilities than I imagined before, Egypt was possibly the first multi racial/ethnic nation on earth, one nation of many peoples. For me personally, as an individual of multiple ethnicities, it was something that I came to connect with and appreciate.edit on 27/7/11 by MikeboydUS because: (no reason given)

If what you say is true OP then why aren't there carvings in the pyramids of these black Africans? Why would these black people carve the pyramids to show people of a more middle eastern and in many cases - e.g Nefertiti - european origin??
Thats right they wouldn't IF they were the founders of Egypt and the builders of the pyramids.

if these beliefs help you get over the fact that little to no substantial sub-saharan, historical achievments exist, then so be it.
afrocentrist make grand claims of the black historical tentacle reaching far and abroad and yet not ONE single piece of this prominent civilization is anywhere to be found in sub-saharan africa. wheres the ruins? wheres the written confirmations? where is the artifacts? did these people somehow magically civilize the world and then decided it was time to lay low in some barren village for centuries??
this is the problem here, afrocentric movements are allowed to carry on without much appeal because any attempt to prove otherwise is met with harsh racial accusations. if unchecked, this will one day result with people thinking africans built the great wall or stone henge.

I'm not sure if this has been pointed out or not, but could the modern concept of the creators of the Egyptian Civilization be based on artistic depictions of people from that time? Most statues, paintings and heiroglyphs depict people with features not common to Black Africans.

I don't know what you are getting at, especially with bizarre and obscure references trying to imply youre "in the know", but I never said anything about red or blonde hair.

And covered with Ochre. Ramses II's mummy is often touted as having had red hair, yet he was 91 years old at the time of his death. The only hair color he had was pure white. The ochre and mummification discolored his hair giving it the false appearance of having been red. No written accounts or depictions by the ancient Egyptians themselves have ever indicated they had any hair color other than black, the same for every other eastern Mediterranean and Near Eastern civilization of that time.

Egypt has a long history. Sub-saharan Africans might have been the most prominent people in the beginning of that civilization. But most of the history of that civilization lied in the hands of the upper Mediterranean European peoples who conquered and adapted the civilization- Like Alexander the Great and Cleopatra, both of whom were related.
