Comet Hartley 2 can be seen in glorious detail in these images from NASA's EPOXI mission. The comet's nucleus, or main body, is approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) long and .4 kilometers (.25 miles) at the "neck," or most narrow portion.
wiki link ; comet
Comets also contain a variety of organic compounds; in addition to the gases already mentioned, these may include methanol, hydrogen cyanide, formaldehyde, ethanol and ethane, and perhaps more complex molecules such as long-chain hydrocarbons and amino acids.[12][13][14] In 2009, it was confirmed that the amino acid glycine had been found in the comet dust recovered by NASA's Stardust mission.[15]

I don't get this thread at all. So you have some pics of Hartley 2 up close, nice, it looks like a peanut.
And all I can say is there are loads of pics of Elenin out there if you look.
But I'm not sure what you're getting at in the first place, what are we supposed to be looking for on the Hartley pics?

Hi Zipmatt,
I saw the man as soon as anon72 posted the image the 1st time. It sorta reminds me of something from Warhammer 40K. In that sci fi universe all the interstellar ships are Gothic looking with figurines incorporated with their superstructure. My post got a bunch of stars and very little comment. I guess it was too freaky, even for pareidolia

The reason there is a difference is because one picture was taken at an incredibly close distance from a probe designed for close fly bys of asteroids and the like and the pictures on Earth are taken from telscopes on the ground at incredibly huge distances. Obvious really. Elenin is a long way away compared to the distances that the Deep Impact probe takes it's photos from.edit on 25-7-2011 by pazcat because: (no reason given)

While nasa are saying elenin is 4 km across , that makes elenin 10 times the girth this thing has. (.4km)

ok theres a start , but where is the probe now then ? decommissioned as the shuttles are ? there are telescopes in orbit , why arent these being used ? they could take pictures without the glare of the sun . dont tell me they are all pointed this way ,
and lets not get on to stock photos or not on google sky of planets like saturn . Or horses head nebula so very far away . provide a clear cut picture of elenin ,.
we dont just swallow some bull .
and dont stand up for liars ; you dont know whos listening
