Are you now worried??

Not about them, I am worried about what our government has done and is doing, or the lack thereof.

There is still a very high potential for terror attacks... Preparation in that regard makes sense... Deploying troops for civil unrest in the event of economic chaos (frozen assets, hyperinflation, collapse of the dollar etc) (economic Armageddon) is going require a lot more than this... Too little too late.

Remember, at the end of the day, these soldiers and all involved are our own, you'll be thankful they are there IF the SHTF!

Worried?

Nah, why, should I be?

Considering what I've already been through I am ready for anything and hoping for nothing.

A feature-length, multi-award winning documentary by Native American filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin set in the thick of the armed confrontation between Native American Mohawks and Canadian government forces during the 1990 standoff in the Mohawk village of Kanehsatake near the village of Oka in Quebec. The two-and-a-half month ordeal received brief national attention when the Mohawk warriors of Kahnawake, in support of their brothers from nearby Kanehsatake, temporarily held the busy Mercier Bridge leading to Montreal, in an effort to bring world attention to the situation. Starting with plans to construct a luxury housing development and expand a private golf course into the Pines, part of Mohawk Nation's land, tensions rose quickly and tempers flared as Mohawks were once again fighting for their sovereignty. After a police officer was killed in a raid to expel the Mohawks from the Pines, the situation spiraled out of control. I have 1 word to say power to the people. Enough of this power demonstration by the government and TPTB. People could go in the streets and be angry for not receiving what the government owes them and that would be acceptable. Now we see these troops in the scheme of a possible economic collapse, I say mmh.

I feel the one's at the top fear the unrest of the masses and this is indirectly spread onto them by the decision of a military presence the great country. Fight for your right citizens of the nation the natural law will always prevail and the abusers of the many will have to answer truthfully one day for their evil acting.

You need to do some more research and NOT use ATS threads as a source for Bush and Posses Commitatus.

Learn what it is...

Read up on Section 1 article 9 of the Constitution...

Read up on Martial Law....

So... What if these troops were used to patrol the borders? Would that be okay then?

From a technicality aspect no... We have agreements with Canada and Mexico that prohibits us from militarizing the border. With that being said the US and Mexico have both looked the other way because of whats going on there.

@ other comments
People need to quit going off the deepend. The sole purpose for this is to be prepared in the event of a nuclear / chemical or biological incident - nothing else.

All other comments are based on paranoia and ignorance on how the government works. People are so buisy blaming the government that they dont have the time to do research on their own to see if an aricle is correct or blowing something out of proportion by leaving out information, like this thread.

You guys have all the info....

You guys have the links that explain all of this....

As they say.... You can lead a horse to water....

With that this conversation is now going in circles.. Feel free to get dizzy on your own...

I tried to link the source article onto my facebook wall, and got a prompt that read

"This message contains blocked content that has previously been flagged as abusive or spammy. Let us know if you think this is an error."

This is the first time ever that I've received a message like this, and to be honestly it creeped me out.

I've been until now one of those people kind of on the ropes towards all this conspiratorial matter; since numerous dates have been given, and passed uneventful. But I dunno, I'm starting to get a really bad feeling that my paranoia may have been well warranted. I just hope nothing does happen, I'd rather be crazy then go through what I think may happen.

Artile 1 section 9 - not article 9

Section 9

2: The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.

It's time for people to set aside all the speculation and simply look at the news around you.

We are a nation in deep troubles now, and it is going to get worse before it gets better... There are multiple threats, there is a bad economy and a government deeper than ever before into deficit and debt and frantically seeking to buy time to hold off the seemingly inevitable.

We are in uncharted waters now, there is nothing to compare it to.

If chaos were to break out in the aftermath of a sudden collapse or attack, or worse a combination of the two... You people will be begging to have troops deployed near your homes, businesses and neighborhoods to protect you, your loved ones, friends, families and property.

20,000?

It is your opinion that this thread is "blowing something out of proportion"

You are skeptical.

It goes both ways...

You are accepting other sources as truth that others may be skeptical of.

It not OPINION, it's FACT! How many times does someone have to say that this is old information that the OP has posted three years after the fact like it is breaking news! None of the articles linked in this thread give any new information on these troops being assigned anywhere in America that we know of. They are not going to be walking our streets. They are going to be used in emergency situations.

If people want to think these troops are gonna be dragging them off to concentration camps or something like that, I would have to say that such a belief is a sad testament to their faith in our American troops.

The article I linked to above your post in fact points out how old this information is and states clearly what the intentions and purposes are. It was quite clear to me. No fear mongering that I perceived. It all makes perfect sense to me. All the sabre rattling and misunderstandings in this thread aside, it's still vital that such discussions take place to squelch such concerns and misinformation of the matters in my opinion. A solid thread in my humble opinion regardless of how may similar one there are.

Just because im on a sight called above top secret.com doesnt mean it gives me the right to purposely leave information out in order to paint a picture that is not accurate.

Its one thing to report a story that has implications to the American people.

Its something else entirely to purposely leave information out by picking and choosing the soures that best fit your agenda.

And as you pointed out, we are on a site called abovetopsecret.com, which means in addition to calling BS on the government, we can call BS when people like you attempt to fear monger by leaving out information from the post.

The assumption by you and some of the others on this site that assumes law enforcement, national guard, state units and active duty federal military units, not to mention law enforcement at all levels,m are going to bldinly follow some typ[e of order for martial law jsut because.....

Time for you and some toher to take your meds.. really... 20k troops are nothing.. The NYPD has over 40k law enforcement, followed by Chicago and Los Angeles.

Posses Commitatus is still very much alive, and a recent inspector general report from 2009, even when military units were requested by local authorities, were found to be in violation of posses commitatus.

Let me repeat that.. An incident occured where local law enforcement requested military assistance. That assistance was authorized by the duty commander. Under local/state law the request was valid and legal.

Under FEderal law, it was determined to violate posse commitatus.

The conspiracy thought process by some is insane... literally.
edit on 24-7-2011 by Xcathdra because: (no reason given)

Finally a voice of sanity. You could put all 20K troops in my city and they would be a fraction of what would be needed to secure it.

And it may come as a surprise but the modern Infantry officer is the smartest and brightest in the Army, trained to think for themselves. And they all know about posse comitatas ans its implications. They are not stupid soldiers who just blindly follow ordrs.

If it wasnt illegal, I'd say speak your mind. Or impeach everyone with a law, business, or finance degree, that is in government, Or don't sell out to lobbyists.

When corporations and banks run our country we have failed.

NoFear of reprisal. To The whore's we call our duly elected.
