My heart goes out to you....I lived out on the streets once for a few months...it was not fun...but I did survive. Do you have places to go for free meals and to shower etc. I hope so. Please let us know when you get the job...I am looking forward to you being housed again.

That's nice of you to say. Sorry to hear you lived on the streets as well; it seems a LOT of people have gone through this. You survived, others replying here have survived, so I can make it as well. The free meals; no I haven't got a place for that. I shower in the restaurant bathrooms with paper towels..

Will definitely let everyone know when I get the job. Could be tomorrow or even Monday; they said give it a couple days.

Hi again...I forgot to ask what city do you live in? I live in Seattle...and here they have a lot of shelters. free meals. places to get cleaned up..free clothes etc. In a lot of cities they have these resources to help people out in hard times....

I live in San Jose. I don't feel comfortable going to the shelters but I have been looking for churches that provide free food. No luck yet. But Go PCNW

I'm inside a starbucks at the moment. I'd pawn the laptop, but this is what got me the interview; it's also the only way I can keep in touch with family if something comes up. Craigslist; all that.

I lived outside for 3 yrs,by choice.I kept all my belongings in a storage unit and camped out at night, although not in a tent.If you are having difficulties finding places to park I would say consider finding a place to hunk down for the night. You can buy a decent hammock and slap straps for cheap, around 80 bucks. Also it is possible to park ur car somewhere safe and get a climate controlled storage unit and sleep in there,I did that as well.
Good Luck

Live it with dignity. Very soory to hear of your situation, but I deeply believe that God allows some things to happen so we can rise to the occassion and someone may be watching who needs the lesson even more than those directly involved. You can count on things getting better. Many of us have had similar expreriences, but when all is said and done I strongly advise you to be able to look back and be proud of of the fact that you survived as well as how you survived.

Good luck.

Be careful where you park at night. I was living in my care once and woke up to the land owner pointing a gun at me.

Shortly after 911, the economy in the resort area where I lived tumbled. My landlords both lost their jobs and had me move out so they could sell my condo. I was in my car for 3 weeks, before I found a room.

My advice, never use a candle at night. It'll crack the windshield. Don't park in a grassy field, lots of bugs. If you park among a lot of trees, keep the windows up, rats. There are plent of places that will feed you, churches and food givaways.

You can ask a grocery store manager about where the nearest foodbank is, they donate to it, not to you, tho.
Goodwill will give you a haircut, shower, toothbrush and paste, and a meal. You can start a fire in a barbeque thingy at a park, beach or public camp site, and warm up those canned beans.

Public libraries are great for just hanging out, job hunting and staying cool. Stay organized, keep your cloths clean and folded, seperate from food, in a bag in your trunk. Laundermats are good hangouts too, but they're hot.

Fortunately for me, I didn't loose my job, although my income dropped considerably. I kept some things in storage, a metal detector among them. I used it to find coins and junk along the beaches.

Somebody posted a thread a couple of days ago, about how much he was making doing dog walking. Keep an open mind, and a positive attitude. Things will work out.

Sorry to hear about your hard times brother, I live in Modesto if I lived on my own you would be welcome to stay with me and the wife and kid. Make sure To KEEP your laptop pen and paper apps are a thing of the past especially in California.

My only advice is don't let it get to you keep your head up and be persistant in looking for a job. Also if your in San Jose don't sleep near king road bad bad place at night.

Stay safe brother and find a local church they will give you a foodbasket and sometimes more.

Matt

By choice? Not sure why people would choose to do this by a choice lol, but hey no judgement from me. The car is comfortable at night.

Thanks Matt; and Modesto is quite nice, been there twice. I am definitely, going to keep the laptop, maybe not the iPod, but the laptop definitely.

I am keeping my head up, especially with the interview yesterday, but I can't stay happy with just one interview. If I allow myself to relax, I'll slack off, and that, I don't wish to do.

Will keep the King Road advice in mind; and, there's a bunch of churches around here. I'm gonna go into one tomorrow, see if they have donuts and coffee. And see if there's anything else they could do.

I have the perfect solution, but only if you're an american citizen. There is a lovely house at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC. It is owned by "the people" and if you have paid taxes you should be able to pop on in and crash for a couple days until your luck improves.

Don't leave anything ( important papers etc ) in your car when you have to walk around, its probably going to get towed. Sell plasma. Apply for dish-washing jobs everywhere , its free food. Ask restaurant managers if they need their dumpster area or parking lot swept or weeds pulled etc in exchange for a meal, most will throw you a few bucks too and you will impress them with your willingness to earn something which might translate into a job, if it gets worse, sell the car before it gets towed and buy a prepaid cell phone, tell restaurants that might not be hiring to call you in an emergency situation, any shift. Workmates are the best roommates, when you get a job, ask around but don't tell people you are homeless, tell them your current roommate and his girlfriend fight all the time and you need a mellow place to crash. Good luck.

Park in Wal-Mart parking lots. Get to a Panera or McDonalds for free internet. Find a day labor position and get your battery replaced or recharged asap.

I used to work at McDonalds as a teenager. They throw away food after its "old" (30 minutes i recall?) We used to offer it to the homeless who came in late and "hung out" instead of putting it in the trash can. You could probably live on "throw away food" if you get hungry. Just have to have the courage to ask and tell them you are hungry. They will be throwing it away anyway and the food is perfectly good still at that point,

They don't do that anymore. After my divorce, I dated a McDonalds manager for a short time. They make everything to order now. The meat etc... is preheated and put in storage bins. When an order is made, they assemble the order and microwave it to heat it up for consumption. There is much less waste that way.
