This is abolutely horrible, it breaks my heart. I am amazed that some here are actually defending this as some kind of appropriate punishment for theft (assuming there even was a theft), or just a misunderstanding of another culture. That is complete and total BS. This kind of behavior CANNOT be justified. I can only guess that anyone saying that has not gone through the process of raising a child themselves. It's a delicate balance teaching kids right from wrong without hurting them psychologically. What the people did in that video was terrorize a small boy, it doesn't matter what he did wrong (if anything), that response is NOT APPROPRIATE for a small child. The fact that dozens of people stood around and no one came to his aid is a complete embarrassment for the Chinese people. They should be humiliated that such a thing could take place in their country regardless of the nationality of the victim. It's positively shameful.

Convenient that there is no story behind the incident....

Not condoning the behavior but there is a lot more to the story than is being explained.

I am a white person who stayed in China, I never saw anything like or had it happen to me. My guess is the kid did something wrong, or someone in his family did.....

and because his family did..this justifies circling him ,and scaring and beating him??

NOTHING , and I mean nothing deserves this type of behavior to a child. I can't believe all the people stood around and watched..My heart was breaking for that poor scared out of his wits kid.

So boncho..if you did something wrong in China, and this is how your kid was treated out on the street...is this how you would react ? You would agree that there is a valid reason behind it?

That was a pathetic video to watch. Really sad....and it seems that to many people stand around and watch children being bullied like this.

Am having exactly the same conversation on china based forums right now. They all try to justify this beating then wonder why mad men keep storming into Chinese Kindergartens to massacre infants with meat cleavers.

What a fruitless position to take. Are you saying the isolated incidents of people attacking schools is directly related to this?

And if it is, what are the incidents of school shootings in the West directly related to?

They aren't isolated incidents, there's been about 20 that have been reported, the rest we'll never know and YES this violence is related, violence against minors is often viewed as acceptable.... why do you think those people in the video are doing nothing, in fact laughing.

No apologies from me if you think that kid's treatment is deserved, its damn well not!

By your other post it seemed like you were defending these actions, when you said ..."my guess is the kid did something wrong..or his parents did"..

The kick was a nudge and he step on his hand for a second. Who are you to judge how other cultures deal with their kids. The amount of spoil brats in this country because there is no discipline. You can't wrap kids in a bubble moms, you'll just make it worse when they need to grow up.

OP: Where did you get the information that this was about race? certainly not the site you link...
This thread was just meant for S&F well none from me

You can't be serious???..even if that child stole, that was no reason to traumatize him ,and circle him like a pack of wolves......all I can say is I hope you can justify that happening to someone you dearly love who is a small child, when they get caught stealing....and if you do..well..I feel sorry for children in your family.

Of course they'll try and turn the kid into some kind of demonic criminal, this story has gone viral on the internet. if his parents try to complain to the PTB, they'll be threatened or arrested as where the parents of kids killed in the badly built schools that collapsed during the Sichuan earthquake.

This isn't a contestable issue and anything that may result in loss of face will blow back heavily on complainants.

That was an explanation, I wasn't defending it. If you read all my posts in this thread you also would have quoted me saying "I am not condoning it..."

No, this is just what happens when you open up a site like ATS to contemporary politics. All these paranoid American conservatives decide that this is the place to wash their socks or something.

Basically we've been Stormfront with Flying Saucers since 2006.

Just watching that made me cry,
I just cant beleive that people could stand there around the little child and watch this happen,

My mothering instincts could have come out and woe the man who tried to stop me from picking up that child and protecting him,

dont you just wish you could save all the kids being treated bad
But hopefully this getting out there may just help this little child get some help x

They wonder why some kids grow up messed up and hateful

This is not about racism. It is about a little boy being mistreated in another country by total strangers while screaming for his momma.

Does anyone care about where this little boy is right now? I would like to know where this little boy and if he is safe.

Really? Because you saw a video on livelink, it somehow made you care about a child in a completely different country.

You care to what effect: You are willing to track him and his family down, sponsor them to your country, provide assistance to them, etc?

The term "I care about" is used to liberally IMO. *I am guessing you implied this with your rhetorical question

There are millions of things happening to people just as bad or far worse as we speak, just because you see it with your own eyes through the internet doesn't make this anymore real than what happens to others everyday.

Shocked at your disregard for human life and non-emotional feelings for a helpless child.

Ya, I care about a little boy that is crouching down in the street being kicked by grown men, being laughed at by older grandmother types all the while crying out for his momma.

Are you saying that you are so heartless that you could care less for this child? Sure there are countless others in this world that much worse is happening to this very second but, does that mean that we should all turn a blind eye to it all?

One who stands up in protest is the start of hopefully what will end in a better society.

I see this thread is dead but seeing as I witnessed some if not all of this, I thought I'd jump in with some key facts.

1: This was not filmed in China. This was filmed in the United Kingdom. To be more specific, Kent Street, Glasgow.

All of the buildings in the film are still standing. The moped is parked outside a shop called "New Market Cafe" (00:24). There's a green shed on the opposite side of the road called "'Mc Iver's Markets" . You can look on google street view.

2: Several times during the video you'll notice white people passing through the crowds. They look like ghosts because they're Scottish. You can also see white faces passing by outside the gang circle (00:24). You can also see the lady in the pink top behind the moped is clearly white (00:40+).

3: Every weekend the Police setup a mobile HQ in the Barrowlands to monitor illicit activity. That HQ was ~30seconds walk away from this store. If those chinese folks had wanted to go to the police they had every opportunity to do so. Instead they chose to beat up a small kid in the hopes of getting back drug money.

4: When they kick the kid, they kick in twos. Prior to filming, the first guy who attempted to kick the kid got his leg grabbed and a fist to the nuts. 5 guys jumped in and started kicking the kid, leaving him curled up in front of the moped. That's where the video begins.

5: Near the end when the kid turns round, you'll notice that he's pissed himself.

So what actually happened ?

The head of a locally known chinese counterfeiting / drug dealing ring operating out of the New Market Cafe had several thousand pounds stolen from him. When he realised it was missing he asked around and found out that a brown haired white kid had been in the shop acting shifty. Him and his gang spent the next 5-10mins asking every kid they could find 'where's your daaddi' until they found this kid parentless. They pocketed what little cash his wallet had then dragged and kicked him back to this shop where they proceeded to kick and beat him further. They tried to crush both his hands (Chinese people love poetic justice. Breaking a pickpockets hands is too good to miss) first on the flat street (00:55) and then against the pavement ridge (01:20-1:40).

The camera finally switches off when the strathclyde police walked around the corner. When the police requested the people who had been filming turn over their cameras no one came forward (this pre-dates terrorism laws). The child couldn't identify his assaulter so the chinese man went away free. The chinese guy refused to say how much was stolen, so the child was never arrested for stealing, though he did have to spend 8 hours soiled in a police van until his parents could be contacted. The policeman involved would later be busted as part of a bribery ring. He was supposed to be monitoring the man who had been pickpocketed but had been regularly getting paid to look elsewhere.

Where was I ? I pulled the guy who'd been punched in the nuts off the kid. He wanted to beat that kid black and blue. When I got the chance to look back over my shoulder at what they were doing in my absence I went off and fetched the police.
