+1 for the ignore feature.

Was a big fan of it.

I have my own reasons for wanting an ignore button, it certainly isn't to ignore ideas or perspective.

Is it that set up as it is there can not be an ignore function added?
IMHO it is similar to selling a car with no brakes.

If there is a vote going on I'm all for it. I'd be giddy as a child to see it come back. I can walk away from a doinkhead in real life but not on here. Heck, I was whining before it was taken away that ten wasn't enough. I could use up ten on just the 9/11 forum as those supposed people are doinks of the highest degree.

Heck, I could use double that on the anti-Jew threads that seem to permeate through ATS about twice a month.

What is it to ignore something? To pretend not to see something although you clearly recognize you've seen it? To try to deny the emotions you have about said post after having read it? If it causes you emotional distress, just pretend its not there - right? This isn't exactly easy for some people.

A lot of you who think the ignore feature is a bad idea are probably not considering that not everyone's mind works like yours. I know some people get highly emotional when someone intentionally insults them and there's not really an option of ignoring for them. They can of course, not visit this forum, but that's not what we want is it? Emotions make us who we are, and for that reason, I think some emotional people deserve an ignore button they can use.

Long story short, I agree with op.

I would like to see the ignore button return too.

Got to +1 this again, I find I log on less and less these days without this feature.
I totally understand the argument that it goes against denying ignorance but in many cases I honestly think it helps to stop more ignorance in the form of insults being thrown back and forth.
If you cant see an obvious trolls bait its not possible to retort

Is there any sort of app you can download so you can set your computer to block out posts by (insert name of the person bugging you the most)

Been away for some years and noticed a lot more immature "punkchat", as I like to call it. Trolling is witty and funny meant to "raise an eyebrow", not rude and obtuse writing. Since there is no Spellcheck here, that I see, they can be singled out rather quickly. I was dissapointed to see that type of people visiting and sharing their debauchery with ATS members. It's almost like a virus now, access to everyone, parents not monitoring children's internet habits. R-E-S-P-E-C-T Xenongod (I'm pretty sure I made some mistakes too, but my brain shrunk and almost made a Black Hole.

Since I have never experienced a life with an ignore button, I don't really miss it. I have my own ignore feature it's called the mouse wheel, when I see a poster consistently being a pain in everyone's backside, I scroll him/her away. It's pretty cool and very easy, if a poster is not contributing then move along, don't waste you time and effort, it is really that easy.

Started a thread today that proposes something like an ignore button, I suppose.

Two-tiered thread proposal

any thoughts?

Ne-vaaaah!!! (never, with reference to a family guy ep I can't remember
)

Ignoring leads to ignorance.

Surely the site's motto is Deny Ignorance.

It's free to join, anyone can. Just because we have a cool motto here doesn't mean ignorant people will not join and say ignorant things.

Heck, I say ignorant things all the time. I just don't post enough to get under peoples skin. I also, USUALLY, try and debate instead of argue( I fail at times, I'm human), but some aren't as tactful as I try to be. Again, I try, I ain't perfect.

I'll use this analogy again. If I come across a stupid person that I don't want to listen to in real life, I can walk away. It's a bit harder to do that here. Crikey, we only had ten ignores (way back in the olden days) so what's the big deal when the ATS population is hundreds of thousands?

I guess it's a pain in the ass tech wise, ok, but I still would like to have it back. Even a little bit. I do realize it's futile at this point but a thread comes up and I can't resist putting in my half a cent on this issue. Used to be two cents but inflation has hit hard.

Too true, too true, Loony.
For sure.... I was a little cock-sure as anybody who uses this sites motto; for we're all ignorant to something, as much as we'd like to think it, we, individually, can't hold knowledge on everything. (Blast!:hey

ye. Me, I'm still learning to be sociable and slowly learning to get involved... s.l.o.w.l.y...
I dunno, I suppose each to their own hey. I couldn't care if I was ignored, though it's kinda hard to get a response out of people if they ignore you
I remember one or two threads (by 'remember' I mean I couldn't tell you the names) where 'A' would be trying to talk to 'B' and eventually, in one occasion due to other members, would find out that 'B' had 'A' on ignore. lol. It was quite funny.

The only way I would see an Ignore function working, is to automatically minimise an ignored poster when loading a page, so you'd just see a bar, between posts, detailing maybe the Name, Post date and Star count or something, maybe a first line... That way even if you ignore someone, you can still acknowledge their presence and if you so deem fit, peruse their contribution (by maximising their post).

One thing I think would really help this site is a Reply Notification Function. Does it exist yet? I'm hoping I missed it

Hey there Jumjolnir -- go to "tools," then "messages," then "replies" -- and you can see any responses to your posts.

And I would vote for a return of the ignore button, despite having never used it previously...

.

I'd like to see this function available ...

I'm all for debate but there seems to be a lot of people here with nothing to add but their disapproval of a topic .

That's not constructive debate or discussion it is simply getting in the way of some really good threads .

I see the instructions Not to engage in one liners but it seems to be going on all the time ...

Usually just a
or or the are you off your meds type comments or just simple denial without any supporting statement .

If the mods are to busy to ride all the threads give us the ability edit out the wasteful and distasteful posts ourselves .

That's my opinion . TIA
