I used the ignore feature at times when I lost my cool and couldn't take what I perceived to be nonsense any further. Always ended up putting them off ignore because sooner or later they would make a post that gave me an expanded perspective on an issue. If they really are spouting out nonsense 24/7, then I'll just look over it and not have an issue. It's just a nobody.

I'm sure some people would like to put me on ignore at times, but all in all, I think it's best not to have the feature at all. It teaches us patience, and allows us to take in views which may at first challenge and/or emotionally harm us at first, but over time may help us to see things from another angle and be more "objective" in our assessments.

Probably not going to happen. You all are probably aware, we used to have an ignore function. Thing is, in order to render a display to each member in a customized fashion based upon their own unique, specific selectable criteria adds a level of complexity and resource drain that slows everything down to an (as determined by admin) unacceptable level.

Well, at least we have an explanation of why the "ignore" feature is no longer available.

It definitely has my vote "FOR" it! There are a couple really mentally nasty members on here that I would like to see gone. If I were in a room with them.... I would certainly leave and that is what the "ignore" feature accomplished when it existed.

To suggest we simply ignore their posts is what we already do.... but, apparently people still request an ignore feature for the very legitimate reasons mentioned above and to not have them filthy our screens. To not let them into our homes in any way, shape or form....... even the internet. Yes... there are members that nasty. It does not have anything to do with "points of view" or "discussion".

Ok, small example. I had a post removed for "calling" someone out. No option to change the title, that was just how it was. Post was removed, and even trying to discuss it got me slapped down.

Now, go search on the site: calling you out

Go on, see it for yourself.

There was even one posted in the past week, calling someone out. Not removed, and someone even commented in the thread it was against T&C. But is it? It wouldn't seem so, according to the search results.

Not complaining, just making an observation and voicing an opinion, appearances mean a lot.

I liked the ignore feature even though I seldom used it. But when I did use it...It probably saved me from being banned.

Same here, but that is when I just logged off and found something else to do.

I decided it wasn't worth it to allow someone to get me so upset I compromised my dignity. I have certain things I expect of myself, and being able to walk away has been a great learning experience. That, and to allow people to think what they want when I do.

Along with the "ignore" function, can I get a "completely agree with me" button as well? It'll save time/effort debating or defending my side of an issue.

(my sarcasm button works just fine

Alright...here we go...

The thread you authored was deleted because you specifically called out another member of this site and attacked them. Personal attacks are against the T&C.

The threads you are suggesting I look at are calling out large groups and ideals...not specific members. There is a difference here.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Don't see a need for it, you can chose to ignore whatever you don't like. If someone is obviously baiting you, move on. I mean, what do you do in the real world, you can't make people disappear. Deal with the ignorance and be the better person.

Actually I think your sarcasm button is a little sticky...it doesn't appear to be working right. Let me try mine...

Definitely against this idea - here's why:

1 - It's the internet, if you've got what it takes to post for anyone to read - have what it takes to take the responses.
2 - I can't prove this, but I strongly suspect the actual number of true "trolls" is fairly low. So, hitting "ignore" might actually deny someone just having a bad day - rather than a card carrying troll.
3 - I've seen this process used on another very popular site where it's called "blocking". Here's what a frequent usage of it is - to deny *anyone* who posts anything contrary to the OP's opinion. As a result, they get to create their own "virtual discussion" which does nothing for the folks who might actually want to "deny ignorance".

At this unnamed site, it's gotten to the ridiculous level that completely unresearched or otherwise unsupported topics get posted - and only those "in the club" get to respond and "thumb them up". If you haven't been "blocked ("ignored"), before your counter-comment, then you certainly will be immediately afterwards regardless of your comment's applicability and factuality. Not only is there no limit on the number of "blocked" users one can have, it also automatically "blocks" one from ever responding to another post by the OP again (unless they get "unblocked" - which doesn't happen much.) This feature also removes your comments in the thread so that no one else can ever know if your comment was actually reasonable or not.

I see this as unfairly manipulative and it detracts from the opportunity of the site to show all viewpoints.

That is precisely the reason some of us think that mods play favorites and use heavy handed, uneven punishment.

Oh, I know it was just a joke right....

Just a joke.

To be successful on the intrawebz, I think, you have to have a thick skin and a sense of humour, or else your day is just going to start and end poorly.

Happens to me all the time.

I report a post for breaking the T&C, and my response(s) to the offending post are edited out and points deducted, etc. Has happened more than a few times.

I am all for the ignore function to filter out the BS trolling and general douche-baggery that has infiltrated ATS. Especially since I can't report anyone.

I have my foes that I vehemently disagree with on most topics, but they still debate their points cleanly. Sometimes I am wrong, sometimes they are. I would never put them on ignore.

The way I see it, if the trolls are stuck in their own vacuum, it is a win/win. Trolls and the ignorant get to play with each other (because they have ignored everyone, or have been ignored by everyone), and the people who want to actually discuss things can do so troll and ignorance free.

Huzzah.

The ignore function is the great equalizer for those of weaker intellects.

If this site really wants to be more than just some conspiracy nut message board, it can't give you that easy of an escape from opposing viewpoints, now can it?

Apparently there must be a lot of single people on here.

Most of us long time married people(at least the men)have learned how to 'ignore" a long time ago.

Just saying....

I believe the ignore button empowers user to manage their own ATS experience instead of running to mummy to do it for them which I consider very disempowering for us users.

I know it is not going to happen but I would prefer the option to ignore a user on a thread by thread basis..

The douchebaggery has increased and I just want to reach through the screen and strangle these bastards.
Here's a few recent examples...

www.abovetopsecret.com...

www.abovetopsecret.com...
And the subsequent replies by the respective OP's is really, really pissing me off.

From which pulpit the sermon comes!!!

Your rudeness in every comment againts your personal point of view is annoying for many members here on ATS. Personal attak are not allowed here.
Stay calm, You Majesty.....

I VOTE FOR The "Ignore" function button!!

To Mods: the word "BASTARD" against other member is allowed on ATS?

Thanks for confirming my statements.

I'm capable of engaging anyone as long as they act like a mature adult in their posting.

That boat has long sailed with you and until this point, you've got the rise you've been craving.

No more.

Have the bestest day!

To be fair, I read both of those threads: You both act like condescending idiots.

People don't have to be nice, and that's a poor reason for a blatant ignore button. That's not progressive.
