Of course I could be missing the point entirely, but the entire thread seems nonsense to me.

In my 7 years here Ive actually really seen the socialist mind call for a removal of all flags and stars to make a more "level playing field" for more "harmony and peace"". But you wonder if this site would attract any visitors at all if its all "harmony and peace".

The OP is a great analogy.

I think that's a fabulous idea. Once you have so many stars and flags, you cease to continue to the forum economy (thoughtful posts) and just rely ride on their reserves to influence people into giving them even more stars and flags.

Just like money. You get so much and you stop contributing to society with it

Right: because I certainly don't spend more freely when my checkbook is flush...
Sorry you're reaching a bit there ( to the left?) . Safe posting first: Don't fall off the" ladder".

but, instead, invest it into damaging industries to make yourself more wealthy.

Money makes money and, in concentration, does not help society.
Stars and flags makes more stars and flags and, in concentration, does not help the forum.

You stumbled upon an excellent analogy. Star and flag for you!

So people who have stars and flags don't contribute, yet you give me a star and flag for asking others to redistribute their earned "wealth"?

Well I was just keeping in line with capitalism. I have less than you so it only seemed natural for me to give you more.

You, sir, can be my Star and Flag Czar. Geitner! Give this man 50 stars and 50 flags. I don't care where. Take it from someone I consider greedy!

I've always wanted to be a Czar. I want to be the Czar of Pronouncing the Word Czar Correctly.

Have at 'em...they don't mean much to me.

My granddaughter once made the comment to me that "I really meant it".

I asked what she was referring to, and she replied that I always said that if anyone had the nerve to ask me for help I would always give it, even if I only had a dollar in my pocket, I'd share what I have. She made her comment when someone approached me for spare change and I gave them a dollar even though I was down to under five or ten myself, and she knew how little I had.

It isn't easy to ask for help, and not always easy to accept it.

I just don't understand why some folks think everyone's out for a free ride: it isn't true. The vast majority of people want to earn their way, not leech. The ones who worry most about leeching are usually the ones who practice it the most.

For the term of my post, you shall be the Star/Flag Czar. Name the stars you want, take the flags from whomever you want, and get a cute secretary while your at it.

Just don't talk to FOX NEWS, they don't like us.

Its easy to help if you have earned enough stars and flags. It is more fun to donate stars and flags for a good purpose out of my own volition than having the Government take them away from me by force.

Well now; That was fun!
thanks beeze and you and the "star czar"( "czar of stars?") er.."Dept of positive reinforcement" (DPR) can have what ever stars I picked up blathering...
I got my enjoyment out of it.

Don't know if any resident "redistributionists" took any of it to heart though...

I would not count on them taking any of it to heart. Not much of a chance of that.

The redistributionists are running scared. Thanks for participating in the thread. It did get more attention than I thought it would. Star for you!

Sometimes you have to literately point out to them, the insanity of socialism. Just like this video about students asked to redistribute their GPA

Honestly Beezzer, what did you do here?

First this should be discussed behind closed doors!

Second, it has to be passed before they can see it!

Third, you have to emphasize how hording the stars and flags will kill, starve and maim those who earn them so they will comply and share!

Forth, ... these stars are ALL one color (clears throat)... please see what you can do about that.

And last, please feel free to take all the stars you need for your personal use but I recommend you not tweet them

Beautiful post! I starred it. The star is from someone who did earn it with a well researched thread, but they had too many. So I considered them greedy.

The student GPA analogy only works if the top ten students had GPAs of 20.0.

So earning something loses it's value when it reaches a threshold?

Who determines that threshold, Czar Cuervo?

As Czar, I'll explain it in terms of 1950's sociology. There is a certain threshold that is, indeed, reached where money is no longer spent in the economy and is, instead, hoarded and "invested". For each dollar you and I spend on crap, the GDP goes up by three dollars. This means that it is in a healthy economy's best interest to keep the cash in the hands of people who spend it.

That threshold is roughly 75K/year. When people make over that, they tend to not help American economy and instead help banks and foreign interests.

I don't think the answer is "socialism" or to redistribute but I do believe in a progressive tax policy. But as long as our taxes are being spent on sending aid to people and then killing those same people in far off places, I don't think it's fair for anybody to be taxed for anything. I can definitely see both sides of the argument. I think the answer would be to create more incentive for the wealthy to invest in the poor directly like they pretend to do.

I'm an optimist. I seriously do believe we will have it right someday. We are closer now than we were when Phonecians traded in clay tablets, anyway!

You're right in one aspect, Czar Cuervo. My wife and I make above that threshold. We buy gold, silver, and are saving for our retirement because we don't trust the government to provide. Now our "saved" money will be spent, on a new house (we love Wyoming) and food, and goodies for our children, and ammo for my guns, and perhaps an alternate power supply for our home.
It all gets spent.

But it gets spent how we decide. When we decide. And to whom we decide.

I just gave you another star from someone who went to the library and spent three weeks going over old newspaper clippings to discover how a common weed can cure everything. But they had too many stars.

Seems like the silver borders gone already

And during the first crusade Hugh of France was the first to sign on.

But Peter the Hermit was much faster with his vast rabble of poor
and got off ahead of the official forces. And here too we detect
the promissory language of "I am quite happy to" as opposed to
"I hereby" or some other more imperative statement.
Quite happy to is only discussing the feelings
that surround such an Idea, not a commitment.

A safe and savy, yet rather French, bit of
court intrigue and breaking ball politics.

Well played sir, Well played.

If you take out the ideas of merit, competition and aspiration you eventually reap apathy. Thats why any form of socialism always leads to decay. Latest example: Greece and Venezuela, which are drowning in self-manufactured problems made by removing merit.

True,
as far as it goes,
but in the case of those two countries
I believe their indigenous cultures were destroyed
long before they even could have been embarrassed into decay.

I fear that Greece and Venezuela had been modernized,
and represent a potential future for the earth.

Put another way, why is it legal to recognize
a corporation as a person but not a family.
When will the legal profession make
restitution for all the families
tribes and peoples they have
broken or destroyed.
Even injured.

Even the wealthiest person in America
now runs the risk that they could have children in the future
who find themselves running riot in the streets.

Actually, the ones "encouraged" would be the "rich" or "middle class" right wingers. IE you for example. You do understand that most socialists volunteer to spend other people's resources.

I would like to ask this question too, but even harder and mean like.

Why does the money given to Government always dissappear?
