Internet Trolls Get Analyzed By A New Study - Though They Will Probably Say It's Wrong

Is there really anything more than can be discussed about trolls and trolling? Apparently so, according to this new study. From the article:

Have you ever been in an anonymous argument online? If so, then there is a chance you were trolled.

“Troll” is a word that regularly gets thrown around online forums these days, but the term itself is actually difficult to rigorously define. A new study released Monday is seeking to rectify this dearth of scholarly work on that special brand of Internet antagonist. In her paper “Trolling in Asynchronous Computer-Mediated Communication,” University of Central Lancashire lecturer Claire Hardaker offers both a working definition and some helpful tips for neutralizing a troll's impact on a message board.

The more studies they do the more laws they will want to create. I remember when the internet was in it's infancy and all you had to do was ignore stuff. Or just not go on. Or enjoy/hate all the crap that is found on it.


Oh... the simple days....

Trolling is great. It provides loads of laughs and its part of our freedom of speech. Its not like it's tough to spot a troll and if your being trolled just don't take it seriously

Trolling is what makes this place. How else do ridiculous threads that are obvious hoaxes, or just plain inflammatory go on for page after page after page, and get stars and flags too??

Your welcome. I was surprised (but maybe I should not have been) that a troll entered this thread almost immediately; and looks like he/she received a t & c violation Makes sense though that mods would be watching a thread about trolls closely......
