I think to be perfectly honest, it would depend on the type of SHTF event. Playing it by ear and knowing when its time to bail would be the best way to approach this.

I guess my glass is half full tonight. And any SHTF scenario won't include the total implosion of civilization.

What you will probably see is something similar to the Kevin Costner movie "The Postman" you will have one large group run as a dictatorship, well armed, controlling a certain region while keeping everyone else there subserviant to them. Thinking your gonna be living out in the woods off the land is really not a possiblity as you will more than likely be discovered eventually and brought into their system or killed.

Unless you have the knowledge and the health to survive in the wilds of Alaska or some such place your more that likely going to have to live in one of these controlled society's.

I appreciate the replies so far, but I think the Mod is correct.

I suppose this could be considered an attempt to "recruit others to a cause".

Oh well, the idea sounded good.

Taking care of yourself and family is helping others. Emergency workers will have one less small group of people they have to care for. This frees up resources and time.

I can't even imagine hitting the road after a SHTF event without getting stopped on the road by a gangs of thugs wanting a way out too. So the secret is to get out before it happens. And in part, that's why I come to ATS.
