because criminals follows gun control laws right?... just think about what you talking about

people just make statements that have no grounds in the real world, .......its ok though keep thinking your self righteous attitude -- I'm a more civilized person because I can parrot "more gun laws" yea

people need to get it through their head that people kill people not guns and people can be punished not guns

put people in jail for the crimes they commit, people have every right to self defense, the dead don't talk but if they did I'm sure they would have asked to at least have had a fighting chance

the system in place to convict & jail criminals has failed not the gun laws, hell the gun laws have saved thousands of people from falling victim to the whims of criminals, with the number of repeat and career criminals aloud to walk the streets after said crimes is all the proof anyone with an open mind needs, so stop pointing the finger at citizens and start point it at the people putting these criminal back on the street to commit another crime

the same people that want to make you defenseless are tweeting their junk to girls on the internet, slightly off topic but call me crazy but their views (politicians in general) are laughable at best, and they want you to wait for police to protect you so, god forbid, but next time a criminal wants to take anything from you just tell him to wait until the police show up before they attack you, hopefully they will kindly let you make the call

letting citizens arm themselves is not the equivalent to handing guns to criminals so lets not even go there

Name one society, in the history of the world that didn't have a black market....
The gun was probably illegal, You can make all the laws you want, criminals don't follow them....

For that matter, plenty of good people don't follow laws as well.

But you are right. If someone would murder you, they certainly wouldn't balk at owning a gun illegally.

Agreed. Once a person has begun discharging their firearm, unless you are physically close enough to the weapon to disarm them AND capable of disarming them, then seeking shelter is the best route.

I applaude the gal's bravery.. I hope she pulls through. But yeah, being a stupid dead hero is NOT better than being smart and alive.

Don't be an a$$hole, being stupid or smart has nothing to do with this. Not everyone is a coward...........

I don't need a gun to kill lots of people. I am large, very strong, have a martial arts background, and can stick all manner of sharp objects in people.

Our "right to bear arms" is just that. There is no need for me to be protected. I protect myself. You should expect the same. Those handouts and measures to protect you come with a price.

People do not need protection from themselves. That is a view of most tyrants. What kind of ego makes a person think that they should think for someone else?

The amount of people you can kill with a gun is far greater than the one you can kill with your knife. With a gun you have to get up close and personal.

People need to protection from themselves sometimes and most importantly people need protection from others. And the best way to do that is to give guns only to people who pass very strict mental health tests. You can be assured the few people who pass this test will not go on a killing spree and most importantly will be there to protect the public along with police officers. Also the guns these people carry will have a tracking device on them and police will always know the whereabouts of the gun. This will also help in dismantling the black market.

You don't need an ego present an idea.

Why would someone ever hangout at 187th street?? That's just asking for trouble!

On topic, and most importantly I hope she pulls through...she made a bad decision, probably a few bad decisions but no one deserves that.
I have to say I can't stand it when girls try and get in the middle of fights. Do you really think you are going to defuse the situation? Do you have any idea what is going through a crazed male's mind??? Absolutely nothing!! He has no regard for you at that moment. If you are going to do something about it at least blind side him with a baseball bat or pipe...and keep swinging if he doesn't go down the first time.

History isn't exactly a good example. Just because it has always been doesn't mean it can't cease to be in the future.

Criminals only understand intimidation. They need to feel intimidated to play along.

doubt you will get anything like that passed, hoss.

and what is the problem you got about him dying in prison?

criminals will always get guns. legal or not.

he shot her in the back of the head.

Get what passed? The test I said or the law?

You keep on rambling about "him dying prison"... WTF...

Criminals don't get guns in a heavily regulated society.

Yes. He shot her in the back of the head.

I am 110% behind every citizen being licensed for concealed carry.

I am 110% behind every citizen not needing a license to carry a gun. It defeats the purpose of the 2nd. The argument we often hear is that citizens don't need guns to protect themselves from criminals. If that's the case, then police shouldn't need them either. Start taking guns away from police, then let's see if they change their tune. Besides, it seems these days that police are just as likely to shoot unarmed citizens and dogs as they are real criminal suspects.

To me, the saddest part of the story is that from all the people there, the only one with the testicular fortitude to stand up to the gunman was a 15 year old girl. It doesn't speak very well for the character of New Yorkers. But then, "I didn't want to get involved" has been the city's mantra for decades.

Girl shot in head for challenging gunman

www.heraldsun.com.au

A ninth-grade girl is clinging to life after being shot in the head when she challenged a crazed gunman during a fight outside a Bronx party, cops said yesterday.
(visit the link for the full news article)

Maybe she knew the guy and there was a reason she thought she could get him to stop..they it seems, were all inside at the same party until it "spilled outside" she may have been feeling responsible in some way...not enough info to say if her actions were "stupid" or just unfortunate.

Dont you think its a little harsh, to call her stupid, idiot? Perhaps she knew the guy from the neighborhood?.. This is what happens when you live in the Bronx, you get use to this behavior. Gun shots, are the norm. People that do the shooting are people that you usually grown up with, and most likely your friend from the 'hood'. Why do people think that people who do these "random acts" come from complete strangers that come from the shadows of the back alleys, and just disappear in mid-air? smh

Stricter guns laws would not have prevented this. We already have some of the country's toughest gun laws in New York. Ever hear of the phrase "outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns"? Yeah, it's true. I live in the Bronx and I would feel a lot safer if I could carry my own firearm, yet the law forbids it.

I hope the girl makes a full recovery. She is the victim in this. No she didn't need to confront the gunman but the gunman also didn't need to shoot her in the back of the head like a coward. At least the girl had some balls.

Your idea amounts to setting an arbitrary measurement on an arbitrary scale based on "medicine' that amounts to voodoo.

Our Constitution allows for all citizens to be allowed to keep and bear arms. I disagree with felons being excluded, to be honest. Once you serve your time, your debt is paid. But that is another story.

"Freedom" has a definition. We cannot call ourselves "Land of the free" if we ignore the definition of the word "free".

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said cops only had a "vague description" of the shooter and were searching for a black man wearing a blue hoodie.

So let me get this straight.... they are looking for a black man in a blue hoodie in the Bronx? Sounds like a great lead to me.

I agree. But in our nanny state, licensure is the only way. You can see by some responses here that there are people who would rather trade liberty for safety, despite the warnings of people who were far wiser than any of us.

Oh wow, this happens right where my friend used to live at!. Let me tell y'all, that area is really really bad, a lot of cops out on the streets, a lot of no good cops who like to abuse their position and use the law against the people but there also good ones. They would stop you even if you coming out of your friend's building, it has happened to me. They will stop you even if you just walking to the store.

A lot of things happened in that part of the Bronx, Its one of the most ghetto area. It isnt that shocking something like this happened, things like this and many other things happens a lot. Its sad what happened to that girl and it shouldnt be that way, the streets are really bad in certain area's of New York.

May her stay strong

Out of everyone in this thread posting, you are on point, you speaking the truth right there, As a New Yorker, As a person who used to hang around that area even late at night, and knowing a lot of people there, I got used to that behavior, Those things are normal. A lot of people here are typing like they know how that area is, they think they are right but they're not and just stating their opinions. There could have been many many reasons that we do not know that trigger all of this, this happened for a reason and it will keep on happening, she wont be the first nor the last.

Off topic, It seems like she has more balls than most of you men in this thread thats blaming her and other non-sense. What would you do uh? Run for cover or stop something from happening? If a lot of people had the "balls" to stand up, We all wouldnt be living in this hell called the USA where we the people means nothing because We dont have the balls as a nation to stand up to those who making things worst.

Of course its the gunners fault...but anyone who doesnt grab dirt or hunt cover when gunfire starts bears some fault...no matter who it is or what the outcome is.....
