Libyan teen tries to take own life to escape NATO bombs

rt.com

Salma Abubaker Shtoot has been within a hair’s breadth of death. But doctors have performed a near-miracle and the young girl is back home with her family.

The 13-year-old took her mother’s pills to kill herself. She says: “If someone wants to kill me – I’d better do it myself.”

But who wants to kill the teenager?

Salma’s native city, Tripoli, has been under constant bombardment by NATO forces for three months. One of NATO’s bombs, supposed to target Gaddafi’s military arsenal, actually landed in the district where her family lives. It did not destroy the colonel’s

Here is a more personalised story of the whole NATO Libyan fiasco which is underway. It is important to remember the devestation that "humanitarian interventions" or more bluntly put "war", has on the native populace. Although Gaddafi was generally a misfit leader, his regime is in no way comparable to the current state of war and anarchy underway currently, with the help of the United States and Nato.

This simply further shows that intervention even if it was meant to have good intentions (which i doubt) creates failed states rather then bring freedom, liberty and democracy- which are not natural occurances when forced upon a state, thus they are destined to fail.

Hmm...

A piece carried on Russia Today (a country quite against action on a good customer of theirs) that cannot be verified independantly. Given we have stories like this "tall tale" coming out of Libya, where they seem to routinely make up BS (and bad BS at that, at least our Governments put some effort into their lies), I find this hard to believe...

Either that, or the girl was obviously somewhat "unhinged" anyway. Who would honestly try to commit suicide because of this activity? Silly girl..

So a young girl tries to commit suicide and stumason tries to discredit it. What about every other single story about gadhaffi coming from ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN/FOX/AP/Huffington post?

Sheesh a little girl can't takes this war because of the NATO terrorist activities and you go and call her story not true.

Note the irony; you reject all news from western mainstream media, and yet you unquestioningly accept news from a clearly biased "mainstream " russian publication?

You got some nerve to suggesting that a 13 year old girl is "unhinged" for wishing to commit suicide over this type of activity as if its no big deal here.

"Unhinged" for not wanting to live through a war-zone? A 13 year old girl unhinged over bombs dropping near her??

"unhinged" REALLY?!!

LOL, I know YOUR kind.. I bet that all it would take for YOU to want to commit suicide would be missing a single one of your nice three-square meals a day. Yet you got the nerve to say garbage like a 13 year old girl in a war-zone being "unhinged".

War and its horrors. Sadly the innocent must suffer. If I were a thirteen old in her situaution I would be terrified! I can't imagine being in such a position.

Oh... That is so weak...

The hell is up with kids nowadays? So fragile...

On an unrelated note you have this boy who didn't do crap to defend himself from an assault by three girls.
And now you have a girl trying to commit suicide because she is afraid that one of those bombs might get her? THAT DOEASN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE!

We're going to free those Libyans from Ghadaffi, whether it kills them or not!

I suppose I should be used to my country killing innocent civilians by now...somehow, I don't think I'll ever get used to it.

all the western mainstream media are biased , and are for regime change in libya, defending its own lies, the western media keeps lying the reasoning for the war in libya, they keep lying on who these rebels really are.

To be honest I trust RT way more than most of our media. Why? Because they were the only news station I saw that aired the first tea parties, and the first end the fed protests. Not a peep from most mainstream western media, save for a few local stations.

When our media is blacking stuff out, as if it don't exist, I see it on RT.

And another thread about NATO soldiers rounding up young women and women and raping them then slitting their throats. So I'd say she had a lot to fear.

Well, seeing as you can;t even spell my name right (multiple times) and you have a track record of being totally unable to engage in logical and reasoned debate, don't get to upset if I just ignore your non-sensical ramblings.

Anyone shoulf question the motive behind the report and, given the language used in the report, it is clearly a biased one. For example, it says "NATO's campagn of terror". Now, you would not get the BBC describing NATO or even Gaddafi's actions in that manner. They even go so far as to say "alledged" and "cannot be verified" when it comes to claims by both sides, showing impartiality. This report is not proper journalism as it clearly is written with one side in mind.

The fact you blindly believe such biased reporting, while dismissing Western or even Arab reporting as rubbish shows you are not actually approaching this with an open mind and have already made your mind up, regardless of any information to the contrary.

Anyone who tries to take their life is unhinged. Fact. No sane person would want to kill themselves, it defies survival instinct.

Also, if this NATO campaign is so terrible, why is she the only one to have done this? Can you even corroborate the story or are you just assuming it is true?

Ironic considering that you're all slamming Western (and Arab) media for peddling lies, but you swallow anything from sources with questionable motive hook, line and sinker.

Basically, if the BBC or CNN claimed the Moon was made of rock but randomblogyoucantconfirm.com says it is cheese, you'd all be planning a big wine party on the moon and wandering where you'll get that many crackers from..

Kind of gullible of you, no? Why not verify the facts before getting all emotional. You don't even know if the girl even existed and if she did, why is her backstory, what issues might she have had, did she really kill herself because of NATO or is that the way it is being spun and she really killed herself because she was bullied or sexually assaulted by someone?

Honestly, whatever happened to "Deny Ignorance". People here peddle it like there is no tomorrow and those of us who remain with questioning minds and some degree of intelligence get shouted down as monsters, war-mongers, globalists or NWO shills. Character assasination is usually the resort of those who have no other argument to make.

So you choose to believe a bias in one direction while dismissing a bias in another direction.

To pretend that Russia is 'neutral' while bad-mouthing the american media is hypocritical, pure and simple.

You are right. The western media is very biased in their reporting.

Does that somehow mean the Russian media isn't?

An intelligent reader questions everything they read. An intelligent, informed reader recognizes that Russia has a clear anti-ameican and anti-western bias. To ignore that is to be very naive.
