Um. Because they want to look out for their employees?

Ok...yes. But isn't it easy enough to now spread such info to "all mankind"? I mean, it sounds a little unconcerned about non-NASA employees.

Still a little creepy even if I'm just paranoid.

I wonder how often do they issue such warnings/preparations?

I was thinking about that. What if that's an indirect way to reach all people. I mean, they did this knowing everybody else in the planet will be able to read that memo. Let's see if other agencies and governments will come out with the same kind of stuff soon. Seems like spreading news and trying to minimize mass panic at the same time.

Astronauts.

So why not just speak the word astronaut?

Besides, I see nothing here that will help someone who is in space.

And to answer the question "why Is NASA sending this message out?" - Because Kennedy Space Center is in Cocoa Beach Florida. 90% of NASA employees in this location are from out of state. June is the beginning of hurricane season. But those dots are just too obvious to connect, right? Last time I checked this is where most shuttles launch from and it takes more than cleaners and caterers to launch and manage space shuttle missions. Johnson, Marshall and Stennis centers are also in areas than can be affected by hurricane season.

On the contrary, what they are, most likely doing, is ensuring that, in the event of a catastrophe, their employess aren't fleeing their jobs to make sure their families are safe. If you are at work, in a place the needs you during a crisis, and you are more concerned with your goldfish and your aunt edna, you won't be able to assist in averting any further issues. Thus, they set up a plan for the employees, and their families and, in the event of a catastrophe, they've got an employee who knows that aunt edna and the fish are heading towards the planned safe house or whatever.

Nail on the head

My husband received a similar "memo" and then a briefing a few weeks ago concerning family plans and the base's plan during the NLE. The problem was that sensitive positions will be bussed or flown to an undisclosed location in Mo to carry on with the work they were already doing and in so many words.. the civilian contractors and employees were on their own.. so they had a separate sort of prep info package handed out to those guys.
I dont think any of this is nefarious.. its just business as usual.. as 20+ years of dealing with the gov has shown me!

More feasible than my own analysis. Let the record show.

"Disaster Recover" plans are devised and put in place at all of the large banks (IT workers, at least) I've worked for, so why shouldn't it be the same for gov't agencies?

maybe. just maybe, this has nothing to do with outer space but more in reference to what has been swept under the rug in fukushima, japan? its not like 3 or 4 or 6 reactors arent burning out of control or anything. and heading and burning through everything on its way to the water table. its not like this is an unprecedented event or anything. nuclear reactors burn through their containment vessels through to the water table all the time. right? they know exactly what will happen there, dont they?

What if other agencies do start sending these out? Are you sure it's because they're all in on some plot to gradually prepare the world while keeping an impending disaster from us, or could it be because every agency, corporation, and company has a disaster preparedness plan that, every once in a while, they like to let their employees know about?

And, a lot of you are still assuming that this is the first time this has ever been done. But, as many people have pointed out, employers have been doing this for decades. In fact, as several people, including myself, mentioned a few pages back, this particular memo is merely an 2011 issuing of a procedure introduced in 2009. It's not new, and it's not suspicious.

The small local museum I worked at for 2 years had a disaster preparedness plan that they made me aware of. Are they in on it too?

It's personal/family preparedness. Do astronauts not have families? Is there really much an astronaut is going to be able to prepare for up there in orbit, besides routine mechanical issues and space junk?
Though, admittedly, those space hurricanes do get nasty sometimes.

Yeah, it's like arguing with a brick wall.

Go and watch the video and listen to what he says again.

Something about NASA being the only agency in the federal government that's responsible for the safety and well being of people not only here on earth but off this planet.

What's the big deal about this?

What he says is exactly correct, it has nothing to do with the memo, he's just stating facts.

Hurricane season is every year, from June until November, but don't take my word for it. If you want proof, google hurricane season. It effects Houston, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi, guess what all of these states have in common? NASA centers, Johnson, Kennedy, Marshall and Stennis.

Go Canes!

Thank you for sharing, however I do not believe that this is a standard procedure and everything is coming to a head now.
A satellite was launched 2 days ago to study Sea Salt, we had more earth movement yesterday and was during the Solar Flare warning period and this evenings local news reported major unknown problems with the GPS Satellite's warning that cell phone and other devices will be crashing and GPS Navigation is now off by 10 miles for some unknown reason. I truly believe that this e-mail is either due to the Solar activity (just checked again) or Elinin may have either broken in pieces and expected to hit before 9/23-9/26, 11/22/11.
My only suggestion here is that we all keep our eyes on the Rockefeller's, Gates, Obama's and others to see if they suddenly go on vacation to India again or some other place, you get the idea, where ever they go that is where the compound is at unless they are going to bail the planet all together. O'h yes, all the stories and pix of buildings on the Moon and on Mar's.
I also think it was a little weird to see that the fleet of Space Shuttles were grounded due to small cracks in the propellant lines, and they keep scrubbing missions, the Discovery was retired, Endeavor scrubbed again in April. For some reason they want to keep them close to Earth and keep the Discovery ready for action 24/7.

What other gov agencies send people into space? They also don't just send them and forget them. I think NASA was trying to say that they dont just worry about astronauts and training and preparing them for the perils of space flight but they also show concern for their other employees and perils of every day life.

We're NASA, we give a crap about you too, even if you don't get hurled into space.

... we had more earth movement yesterday ...

The earth moves on a regular basis: revolving around the sun... rotating around its axis... earthquakes from fault lines millions of years old... long, passionate nights with someone you love. So, how rare is this "earth movement" phenomenon, again?

... unless they are going to bail the planet all together. O'h yes, all the stories and pix of buildings on the Moon and on Mar's.

I didn't think imaging artifacts and natural land features were habitable. But, if you insist.

Great catch Signals...S+F:
Is there an incoming Unforeseen Event about to occur? Maybe, Maybe Not but if this was a indirect method of informing the masses it wouldn't hurt to make sure your own plans are ticketytaboo now would it?
Rifle.....

Katana...

Water bottles/collection system and filters......

Seed bank of my own.....

Medical supplies, Inodine etc etc......

Long Life Food stuffs........
(seeds don't grow over night)
