Interesting article. I'm disappointed in the photograph of the leaf though. Why not show us the bud since that is the medicinal part of the plant?

i just noticed the title of this forum...lol, c'mon...what else did you expect when you started it

the thin lines of your boundaries of what is acceptable is a hard dance for us to navigate...sometimes.

in the current climate our youths are raised in, with the additional sensory info. overload, and effects from bombarding the airwaves, and theyr lifestyles...recreational drugs go hand in hand with self medicating.
sad but true!

One thing really jumped out at me.

The new varieties contain enhanced levels of therapeutic compounds, including an appetite suppressant

That sounds exactly like developing a strain of Tobacco that fights lung congestion. Something about engineering the plant to have the exact opposite effect it naturally has just does not sound good to me.

Certain cannabinoids may have appetite suppressing affects. There are about 60 types of cannabinoids that each do their own thing and work synergistically with each other. That is why some strains are better for certain ailments and others are not.

I'm sure a lot of new medicines will be made just from the research on cannabinoids that is being done now and in the future.

yea right, wonder how many warning's will be with this , ask your doc if this is right for you , taking this may cause... if you have ... you my be at risk... just like all the other meds out there . What happened to the oath do no harm when the meds cause more harm then the ailment. I for one do not trust nothing man made, not even sprain. If it does not grow from the earth then it is not meant for man.
Just my op, some do needs meds, but are we becoming too reliant on them?? Not seeking the case but make a quick buck by giving a false cure.

The article is very vague and IMO poorly written. However I am satisfied that more research is being done on the therapeutic and medical value. This is a step in the right direction. Hopefully one day, this plant will become decriminalized and the war on drugs could stop putting innocent and sick people in jail alongside rapists, gang bangers and murderers.

Highly medicinal strains are being developed and are available now in the MMJ industry. Strains like Cannatonic
projectcbd.org...
and Harlequin
www.projectcbd.org...
Are just a couple examples of strains which are focused on a therapeutic cannabinoid profile over a psychoactive one. Strains high in CBD act as inhibitors of THC at the CB1 receptor thus inhibiting psycho-activity without loss of therapeutic effects. The British Pharmaceutical companies are copying these types of strains from the existing MMJ industry.
Private organizations like Project CBD (www.projectcbd.org... ) Are doing state of the art research and are way ahead of mainstream Pharma in this area.

It's illegal. so we have scientists in labs working to enhance it??
kind of a double standard if you ask me, who are they testing this on?
why can only certain people benefit from it's use while the majority is left to suffer without?
all the while people are getting drunk and smoking cigarettes actually causing harm??

thats a huge conspiracy. keep the drug that helps you illegal, while poisioning your population slowly, and not in just one way either. smokes and drinking combined with fast food, and all the crap we consume. ALL THE TIME.

Hmmm who cares about the leaves? It's the flowers (buds) that are used medically, the leaves are trimmed and discarded.

Growers have been crossing plants to produce the best effects for years, I'm not sure how a drug firm is going to do much to improve what we have imo.

So...Wednesday this pharmaceutical company was working on "creating" their version of a medical cannabis based product...(notice, it says cannabis based)...Do they rest on the 7th day???

The only thing that will work is the REAL thing...will give 'em points for trying.

Thanks for the reply...but if you notice I said the only thing that works is the "REAL" thing...

Since pharma can not copyright nature they will never give up trying to "create" something that they can make money from...greed is way to rampant.

Cannabis for medical/ any other use will continue to be demonized, despite all of the good and helpful possibilities that could come from legalization...keeping the REAL thing illegal...is just TPTB's way of making excuses for their greed and stupidity.

I am yet to understand why they posted a picture of a leaf, especially one with burnt tips.

As for "super strain", that's all crap. Different strains of cannabis have different effects on us, so yes you can make a new strain that emphasizes those effects more by breeding, but, why call it "super"? But, the conditions it is grown in have as much to do with the plant as the strain itself, same with growing/flowering/curing time. It's just a marketing ploy to call something "super".

I feel bad for the people using it for medical reasons because the are considered criminals for doing something illegal, why the government has yet to legalize medical cannabis, I'll never know. These people are grabbing on because it is a natural cure and can help with most of the symptoms, but yet have to fear prosecution if the Feds 'feel' like cracking down that week.

Tell me that's not crazy?

Pred...

Greedy yes... stupid, if you truly believe they are then yes, you might be

heheh joking, but they are very intelligent, only in sociopathic delusional kinds of ways of course. (I would never hope to glorify them in anyway but I can see it's there)

I only hope one day the right people get into the positions that can benefit everyone.

Super strains have already been invented. If it has more than 15% THC then it is super. Since they neglect to mention how much THC is in it, then they have failed. There are over 300 powerful compounds in cannabis and they do not say which ones they are breeding for. I am not impressed. Bad jounalism or something.

The only cannabis variety they are allowed to use in Britain for research and product development purposes is Finola. The THC content is almost zero. What most research is focused on is improving Omega Oil content in the seeds. Hemp seed is the only known plant source of Omega 2 and 3 oils, amongst other highly beneficial compounds, as you say, and because 100% of the plant waste can also be used in one form or another, it has great potential as a cash crop.
