Explain to me how a headscarf is dangerous so we can go in to detail how everything else I posted is dangerous. Some claim chock hazard, but I don't see how you can choke yourself by wearing a head scarf as much as you choke yourself by wearing a sweat band or having long hair, or even wearing a shirt. The excuse for this bigotry is ridiculous beyond belief, the humiliating part is the fact that so many actually believe it.

This is bigotry, because they intentionally targeted Muslims. Neck bands were banned after head scarves were banned, and we all know why.

If I was a bigot, and had something against those who grow mustaches, and I ban mustaches, then people realize how much of a bigot I'm, I would then ban side burns just to make myself look like less of a bigot. Hey look, I didn't just ban mustache, I banned side burns too, so that makes me a lesser bigot.

Well Im sure thats true, but probably not for the reason you think. Its hard explaining anything to people who arent very good thinkers.

You are overlooking the simple FACT that headscarves are not the target of the ban. Snoods were. In the big popular sport of soccer, the Iranian womens team and their participation in the 2012 Olympics is probably not central in the minds of the ruling body.

But the big, profitable, popular, mens professional teams ARE. The snood was becoming popular in the big, profitable and popular mens professional leagues and it was banned there. The ban carries over to head scarves. Its not about them.

Its not about bigotry, unless you are claiming that all the male players who liked snoods and were wearing them are being punished just to make some political point about Iran. Which is pretty ridiculous.

Some poor guy who had no legs was not allowed to run in the Olympics with his artificial legs because they might give him an advantage. He cannot run on stumps so he is out of the game, period. The Iranian women COULD take their scarves off and play. Rules are rules in sports. Whats happening to the Iranian women is hardly the least fair thing ever to happen to a potential Olympic athlete, and its certainly not bigotry.

The rules are there for a reason. Even though some may not see. People are not above the rules. No matter how much they want to be...

MOTF!

Duuh, bigots hold power sometimes, when they make the rules, they make it based on their bigotry. That doesn't make it right, but at the same time unless Iran can do something about it, Iran shouldn't concern itself with the organization.

Which is why I said Iran shouldn't even get themselves involved with this corrupt and dirty organization.

Just because you can say bigot a hundred times it will not change the rules. They are there for a reason, even though you may not believe it. Why does anyone who doesn't agree with you automaticaly become a bigot?

Exactly! Unless they plan on doing something about it, then theres really no reason to show up in the first place. Obviously FIFA isn't going to bend the rules for them as they stated before they even showed up.

If they are so concerned about safety then why don't they ban soccer shoes? It is after all about safety right?

Unless it isn't, unless it is their bigotry making the rules.

I don't think it is easy to believe that a head scarf is more dangerous than a soccer shoe. That is my point, there is no sense to the rule except from a bigot's point of view.

I'm not calling you a bigot, I'm calling those who created the rule.

First of all the rules were in place long before the Iranian team thought about attending. The Muslims are worse than the jews about turning everything into being a bgot because the entire planet doesn't want to do things their way. Both of them have a my way or no way attitude and wonder why they don't get along. However if either wants to be part of the rest of the world they need to learn there are rules set in place that all religions also have to abide as well. Thisn isn not about flounting a religion it is about playing a sport. Don't like it then get over it.

Oh wait...
Who is requiring them to wear those again?

Exactly.

Stupid religious nut jobs, better known as the theocratic regime of Iran. That's who.

Playing in Headscarves IS a problem , hence FIFA's ruling on it.
Your not FIFA, so there fore you cant change the rules that so many agree with.
So like i said, if the iranian women dont like the rules, well,,,,,,,,,,,,, get their ball and thier illeagal FIFA headscarves and $%#@ off home and cry to your oppressive government that forced you to wear the bloody thing in the first place.
Iran is to blame and NOT FIFA.

Maybe the olympics should still be played in the nude. Do you think they would still be upset?

MOTF!

Luge wipeouts would really really suck.

Though women's gymnastics and figure skating would be quite interesting

Edit to add:

Why doesn't someone come up with a head covering that will pass FIFA standards and the religious standards.

$$ PROFIT! $$.

Guess they would rather bitch and moan about it.

OK I give up....

I searched but can't find a simple list which simply shows how many women soccer teams are competing. I was trying to find out exactly how many teams are from "Predominantly Islamic/Muslim" countries and how many of those are requiring headscarves?

Does anybody here have a list of "Islamic" countries that have females teams/participants and if so, how many of them [Other than Iran] are requiring their participants to wear headscarves?

Because if it's JUST an "Iranian" issue then there goes the over-bloated and excessively used erroneous claim of "Bigotry".

They have one of those. The Iranians wouldn't wear them because they showed a little neck.

This reminds me of the Weird Al song Amish Paradice.

That does seem to be exactly the case.

Many conservative Muslim women wear the hijab for modesty reasons and complain that the specially designed FIFA caps don't cover enough skin.

In refusing to play without their hijabs, the Iranian soccer players also forfeited their match against Vietnam, all but dooming their chances of advancing to the London games in 2012.

Read more: www.nydailynews.com... 1OcGqJX4x

The "bigots" actually allowed them to wear head coverings, even though it could have been interpreted as a "religious" sign, (which is banned by FIFA) and it wasnt good enough. They had to have one that covered more, according to Iran.

You know what else I find funny? That people are blaming everyone but the one group who is responsible for this issue. The Iranian leadership. Its they who will not let the girls play. Not FIFA.

The Iranian women's soccer team should all just wear these:

Chivu (Inter Milan) - www.cotidianul.ro...

Cech (Chelesa) - www.justsoccerjerseys.com...

Helmets... headscarfs... close enough right?

See yeah ok.... well then tough ****..... don't play then.

What a joke...

You either play and dress like everyone else has to or you don't play... really makes no difference to the world of football in the grand scheme of things.

And Muslims targeted 911, are you going to support that? Were the twin towers bigots?

No... a group of radical extremists "allegedly" targeted the twin towers and they called themselves Muslim...

Not sure what that has to do with the thread...

Most people who are opposed to the wearing of these headscarves in football are not your typical "muslim basher" so perhaps take your ignorance over to another thread?

There are plenty of Anti-Muslim threads on ATS.... this is NOT one of them, just people pointing out that equality and rules are for everyone and people shouldn't be given special permission.
