Have you taken the time to read the link I posted properly yet, and retract your last post to me? Or are you just going to scuttle off and pretend it didn't happen?

I've never read such inhumane comments on this forum.

There is a group who know how to protest. They aren't huge in numbers but they get a massive amount of media coverage and they don't have to lie in the road to get it.

All protest groups should take a leaf out of the book of the Westboro Baptist Church.

No, it's just ignorance of the keyboard Taliban here on ATS. They see the word "hippy" mixed with death and the ignorance begins flowing from their pea brains like 7.62 rounds from an AK-47. All rational thought goes out the door.

No worries though my friend. They will be the first to perish when TSHTF.

Have you?

Police said it had caused a slight delay at about 8am for a plane taking a paediatric team from Aberdeen to Inverness to attend to an ill baby.

and the very next paragraph...

After talks with police, seven of the protesters gave themselves up at about 8am – six hours after the demonstration began.

Once they knew it was effecting someone's medical state, they stopped. Just like I said, weird. Nice "argument" you had there... If you need a hanky to wipe the blood off your foot, just ask--no need to get emotional.

The people posting condemnations of the horrible posters who are promoting running over people are nothing more than star-hungry rabble-rousers.

Nobody is saying that drivers should run over anybody in the road on purpose. They're saying that it's an extremely poor decision for these protesters to lay/sit in front of traffic, pointlessly obstructing hundreds or thousands of people from doing the things they need to do to move on with their lives. As someone posted earlier, no matter what their cause, they are doing nothing but turning the public against them.

If I want to sit in the middle of a street, it's foolish for me to think that I'll be perfectly safe. Not because drivers are bloodthirsty monsters looking to kill, but because I'm doing something incredibly stupid for an unrelated purpose.

The great american herd simply will not be motivated to action without intolerable interruptions to our daily comfort zones. Lawsuits will follow the "courageous" drivers who did knowingly run over protestors. Righteous road rage is not a viable defense in the eyes of personal injury lawyers.

Being "too intelligent" to place ones life in jeopardy for a cause whislt mewing about a need for
"change" smacks at best of moral and civic laziness. At worst, it seems cynical justification
for the socially inert to belittle the protestors for not dying in a monkish pyre.

Oh, btw, I'm Aeryn, your run-o-the-mill scientist, philosopher, and transsexual revolutionary.

WTF is your problem?!?!?! What emergency situations? You're speaking hypothetically. Using hypothetical situations to justify why you would run someone over. We're discussing what we know here, not what we suppose, or hypothetic situations. Has any one in the first video mention anything about an emergency situation(a child being rushed to the hospital, etc)? NO! The only thing mentioned was someone on their way to work. THAT is what we are discussing. AND eve if your hypothetical situation was indeed the case, you use some common sense in dealing with it. You get out of your car, explain to the protesters quickly that you are in an emergency crisis and you need to be elsewhere. IF, they don't allow you to pass, you tell the motorists around you the case and back up a bit, turn, and find another route. Putting someone else in the hospital to save your child, etc isn't really ideal, by any standards. Will I let my kid die in such a situation? No, I will find a way. But I will not run someone over. You're not a friggin monkey. If you can't find another way to get out of such a simple situation quickly, you shouldn't even be driving a car in the first place. You're not smart enough to drive.

Do not come here with your drivel to justify your selfish and highly stupid acts!

This sort of nonsense should not be promoted by ATS. Yes, you are free to speak your ignorant mind, and I am free to condemn it!

The plane was still delayed, and I did say that fortunately the baby did not die!

I was actually referring to your retort about the use of "plane" as opposed to "plain" and inferring that I was somehow calling the protesters, and as such you, stupid, and that I was somehow stupid for not knowing the difference between plane and plain!

What say you to that?

Sorry I just edited mine
I was not justifying running them over, i am definitely against that, Im just saying, If I laid down on a free way.. should i not expect to be hit at least once even if everyone else listens? because for every 1 dumb person fighting for the right cause, theres another dumb one fighting against it

No, FOR THE LAST TIME, I HAVE NEVER AND WILL NEVER CONDONE RUNNING A PROTESTER OVER!

However, I don't believe that obstructing the traffic is constructive as it MAY cause other disruptions that COULD have life threatening consequences.

There are also a number of other reasons, apart from being late for work, that being delayed may have serious consequences for those who are delayed and at the end of the day the people being delayed can do nothing to further the cause of the protesters!

My Grandfather fought in Vietnam , he did not ask to go he was told to and he went . To thank him for his service a group of hippies protesting upon his return , spit on him , screamed awful thing at him and pelted him with eggs . He was just doing what his country asked , that was what he returned to . So i must say when you protest against your fellow normal Americans , you are a coward to afraid to protest the real problem .

And not reading people's posts and jumping to conclusions should be equally condemned! Just show me one of my posts where I said it was okay to run over protesters!

Protest has its place, but in the end is really just a limp wristed way of admitting that you are powerless to anything about the problem you are protesting. It follows that such an admission would lead to such stupidity.

I've never read such an ignorant and stupid statement on ATS.

Civil rights.... Women's right to work.... and many, many other things came about through protest and action.

To just sit back and accept that we are "powerless" as you suggest, is the epitome of ignorance and apathy.

I am disgusted at the countless posts i just read about how the protesters were in the wrong. I'm sorry, but what country do you freaking people live in where it is legal to RUN SOMEONE OVER? Or did everyone watching the video miss that part? you know, the part where the innocent protesters got run over? Sure, laying on the ground in front of a vehicle isn't the smartest thing, but that doesn't make it right, or legal, to run them over.

As for everyone on here whom seems to get a laugh at people getting run over, how would you feel if that was your son, or your daughter that got run over? These are peoples kids and most of you are laughing at them being run over by multiple ton vehicles. Forgive me for not seeing the humor in the situation, but that's disgusting. I don't care what the reason, anyone who laughs at someone being maimed underneath a vehicle has some serious freaking problems.

As for the people that were protesting, they really should have chosen a safer method of protesting. Putting yourself between a two ton hunk of metal and the concrete isn't exactly the smartest plan. (That still doesn't excuse people from running them over)

We have an incredible 35,000 americans killed on the highways every year thanks to all the speeders and drunk drivers and other criminal drivers. Stopping traffic to protest the mild penalties given to highway killers would make some sense. But doing it in the hopes of stopping wars makes no sense and just makes people mad.

So what do you say about the Tiananmen Square incident where the guy stood in front of the tank?

The guy didn't get run over.

So were the Communists better than these drivers?

Americans need to stop giving themselves double standards.
