Wow ..am i dreaming? i can believe that in USA exist this law

I was going to find an image of Jesus feeding the masses with the loaves and fishes and super impose thug jackboot pigs coming in to arrest him for feeding homeless people, but found this one instead and felt it kinda fits this topic perfectly....

When people are charged with an offense for simply helping less fortunate, you know the world is already dead.

I would open a church in the rich end of town, just to see the homeless parade up and down the streets of the rich elitist jerks.

edit on 2-6-2011 by g146541 because: to add.

Here is a church that did just that here

PHOENIX -- It's one of the many good deeds for which churches are known, but now a judge has ruled that feeding the homeless is against the law. The ruling is against CrossRoads United Methodist Church in north-central Phoenix and it says that the church is operating as a charity dining hall, which breaks a city zoning ordinance. The area where the church is located -- Central and Northern avenues -- is zoned as primarily residential. Charity dining halls are considered businesses.

Amazing the shameful society we've become.

Peace

Ok, couldn't get past the first page before I got frusterated.

"but for the grace of God, there goes I "... Even if an athiest, you can see the common sense and meaning in that saying.

I will happily open my pizza box, and give that homeless man a piece, he did after all offer me hand sanitizer for my son who picked up something nasty off the ground

www.havenforhope.org...

Before my phone dies, haven for hope. I think alot of cities homless pop would benifit, if they would take the time and space to do there own. Im sure diehard homeless are very resistant, but for others, this is top of the line services to give a hand UP!

What is wrong with people, how dare we sitting in our living-rooms being able to pay for mortgage or rent, sip warm drinks out of dish-washer neat and clean cups, obviously being able to pay also for the internet connection, have a discussion about if it is right or wrong to feed homeless people, independently of law or faith.
What do you guys mean with feeling above the law, common sense is the law humanity needs to follow.
There is not much need of thought sophistication needed to agree that bombs are bad and helping somebody in distress with a direct action is a good thing.
I suppose the guys are a non-profit-organisation, in Europe when you are non-profit handling food, you are required to obtain a HACCP permit, hence to participate in a three week food safety training, which is going to ensure people are aware of the hygiene standards while preparing food, so if those standards were in compliance with the law I do not see any reason they got arrested.

this comes to mind..aunt Bea desides to feed the homeless ..so she cooks up 100 sausage biskitts .and goes down to the park to hand them out to the hungry folks..Barney Fife comes along and arrests her for not having a food handlers permit..cant even help your fellow man

Totally illegal to be homeless. What frickin shame. I lived in Orlando when the ordinance first took a decade ago. There was a great deal of backlash and the police lightened up.

Now, they are back at it. Unbelievable that people have become so low and cruel to their fellow human beings.

That said, the Lake Eola area is full of up and coming new yuppies and prosperous businesses. It is very expensive to live there. So.........they don't want the so called bums. Hey.... bums are no less than capitalists. They go where the money is. You go homeless folks!!! Make em holler for a dollar!

God...the inhumanity!

City of Orlando Ordinance AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 18A (PARKS AND OUTDOOR PUBLIC ASSEMBLIES) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF ORLANDO BY AMENDING SECTION 18A.01 (DEFINITIONS) TO ADD THE TERMS “LARGE GROUP FEEDING,” AND “GREATER DOWNTOWN PARK DISTRICT (GDPD),” AND CREATING NEW SECTION 18A.09-2 (LARGE GROUP FEEDING IN PARKS AND PARK FACILITIES OWNED OR CONTROLLED BY THE CITY IN THE GDPD) ESTABLISHING A PROHIBITION ON LARGE GROUP FEEDING IN PUBLIC PARKS AND FACILITIES IN THE GDPD WITHOUT A LARGE GROUP FEEDING PERMIT, AND LIMITING PERMITS TO TWO PER USER PER PARK IN A 12 MONTH PERIOD, AND ESTABLISHING A PROHIBITION FOR FAILING TO DISPLAY THE PERMIT TO A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER ON DEMAND WITH AN AFFIRMATIVE DEFENSE THERETO, AND PROVIDING FOR APPEAL FROM DENIAL OF A LARGE GROUP FEEDING PERMIT, AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Dang they would have thrown Jesus a$$ in jail!

Meanwhile, a bank was being robbed just a few yards away. The thieves got away with nearly ten million dollars in unmarked bills.

...well, having this permit is no big deal, here in Europe at least, and it is not about the single person sharing pizza with somebody else, it is about being a non-profit organisation cooking the food for many, hence having knowledge that before you prepare the food you need to wash your hands, that the ingredients you use are not going to harm the people you feed, though I cannot believe the guys had not obtained this permit..

..and anyway, in Europe there is no difference between feeding small or large groups of people

The following people appeared in SUPPORT: (9)

Anderson, Janice Coleman, Krystal
Harding, Robert Decker, Bob
Kerlin, Eliot Fiedler, Michael
Reynolds, Greg Hunt, David
Sheaffer, Carol Madison Marchetti, Marc
Sheaffer, William O'Donnell, Michael

Source

Mayor Buddy Dyer
Presided over this being passed.
Craig Ustler spoke on his own behalf in support of the Ordinance. Ustler Development

Surprise surprise it seems a big developer was an instigator of this piece of crap ordinance. Whats the matter Craig Homeless people bringing down your property value?
Oh lets see was he also a campaign contributor for Mayor Buddy?

Do your research make up your own mind but for me this is another case of those with stamping all over those without.

And down the crapper we continue to go...

Good for those people for doing a good thing. And getting arrested for it.

...and also the police would not deal with this things, but some food and safety official, so you would not go to jail for it, you just would get a warning telling you need to get the permit and a list of places you can attend the training and maybe a fine

nope

i have never been arrested so i guess i am better than them.

and i do follow the rule of law no matter how stupid it is.

and i do think people need to be helping themselves instead of having their hands out.

i am give a man a fish you feed him for a day teach a man how to feed and you fed him for a lifetime crowd.

what people like those and possibly yourself fail to see is the promotion of dependency.

i liken this to a zoo feed the animals domestic them and if they ever get turned back into the wild they cant survive from the morality imposed on them by people like them.

not very humane in my opinion

So your better than them how again?

"and i do follow the rule of law no matter how stupid it is"

That is signature worthy.

While I think many homeless are such by choice, this "law" deserves to be ignored (like most modern laws and codes).

I say, give a man a fish so he may live long enough to learn to fish..
sometimes its not black or white and we must work in the grey areas.
