I have a theory but I don't know.

I know, but I'm not telling. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Has anyone tried doing a site search for "Member vs member"?

I didn't think so.

Yes. You can change it to no text. Thus erasing the one you had.

Edit: Glad i finally got a question I could answer.

Hmmmm. My fingers didnt type the question my brain was telling it. i'll try again

Is it possible to have a 'custom title' but not be AWARE of it? As in, you are somehow awarded it, as you say, but are not aware of it and therefore haven't put it on? I'm just trying to follow your original theory.

I think that if someone has gotten a custom title, whether they still wear it or not, that leads to the uncapitalized "m".

I have a small member, but have not been given a 'custom title' that i am aware of.

A custom title is something like "Writer-Fighter-Scholar" which you get if you participate in those forums/contest/debates/research projects. I'm guessing that these titles can be lost or given up for a variety of reasons and if so, then the title would revert to "member" with little "m" (just a guess at interpreting intrepid's post, though I don't think it's a full explanation as I've seen Former Mods. who no longer have the Mod title and who do have the "M" in their Member title, so 'meh ...

I've seen other titles as well; "Paladin" as an example - I've no idea what that one is.

"Paladin" is like, honored student...or, apprentice.

(Now, running off to check the dictionary....) Tee Hee...

Derp...nope, wrong. I get my Star Wars terms mixed up....I knew it was related to the Jedi, but is a term for a warrior, defender, etc.

My favorite (favourite): "Paragon of chivalry". I like that one....

I tried. I even tried using Google to see if I could find a list. You can't slice and dice the member list, and status isn't a sort order available.

I could pull the list out and do it myself, but frankly I didn't think that was necessary as a use of my time!

I don't expect this to be an acceptable answer, but actually:

There is no significance to Member vs member. We've had a good number of changes in the guts of ATS over the years. Some of the results are different just because they're different. No rhyme, no reason, no ulterior coding or motive.

At one point, registrations resulted in "member", at another it was "Member" and likely back and forth on some random scale depending upon some little tick box or coding input done at the time a change was made. Timing mostly, and whatever one cares to read into it is as relevant as tea leaves or chicken bone casting. Of course if that's your deal, then there you go.

Works for me.

I'd probably go look through the code and find it if I was the coder/advisor. Can't be that hard to do a CTRL+F for "member."
I like being able to pick off the low hanging fruit so it doesn't continue to bother me while I work on something else.

Yeah. Well....

Have you submitted an Alert lately?

Complaint aboout post:

Started pointing that out nearly 6 years ago. We sort of pick our battles in order of priority. In my case, that means there's nothing worth battling over.

I thought it was an acknowledgement of our free status name versus our State name.
Sovereign Membership rocks.

ETA: just noticed that I have no member status...hmmm I'm Anonymous!!!!!

. Ah well as a project advisor then, I'd suggest finding about 8-10 of these sort of errors and then having them grouped up as a single higher priority ticket.

Aboout (the coder was Canadian?) and "member". That's two. Only need about 6 more to make a good case for raising the priority now.

Like any good art, it's left up to the determination of the viewer. It means in a most self-reflecting way whatever you want it to. Or nothing.

There's exactly one guy who does it all - Skeptic Overlord and as you can probably imagine his plate is full. I've come to see the little incongruities as a sort of quirky little sense of charm.

It keeps me from going all OCD and denting my own skull.
