What is the significance - if any - between member status of "member" and "Member"

Hmmm, I have no idea if I was "member" or "Member" because I went to "writer" so quick...oops I mean "Writer" I don't think there's a distinction in "Writers" anyway?

I've been wondering about those titles.

Why.how were you made a 'writer'? I'm assuming it is some honor bestowed upon you by the ATSPTB.

I suspect the lower case and upper case M may be a signal for the mods.

maybe the lower m is actually a signal that one day as old mods die off... the lower m's become the replacements

Bow down fellow subjects to we who possess the larger letter "M", which is by no means a "code" for master writer, mason pal, moronic troll, etc. Behold "pikypiky" is a Member of the almighty ATS and should in no way, shape or form mean anything significant (as in preferential treatment whatsoever).

How funny! You know I used to run a forum. And I used to have "member" vs "members". Top secret differnentiation that they were not aware of.
It was a way of marking newer members.
And what they could do and see on my site was slightly more limited. Once a "members", was found to be trustworthy and not a bot or troll, they graduated to member.

Obviously there are 2 separate groups here. (And even more hidden ones.) So what are the differences?

My guess is it has to do with forum ranking. I have a gentle hint on the top of my reply screen to be an example as an experienced contributor.

Anyway to confirm this?

I have heard that it is to do with whether you've been previously banned or warned. If you get banned and reinstated, or post banned, or receive a final warning, then the ''M'' drops to lower case.

I'm not sure whether that's true or not, but I did read that explanation on another thread. If so, then it's ''naming and shaming'' people in a subtle and stealthy manner, and a bit more discreet than the old red ''warn'' tags.

ok - in no particular orde :

"the4" was something to do with a competition .

the distinction between ` member ` and ` Member` is so secret that any one who knows is excetuted by ats death squads - PS there are both ` ats ` & ` ATS` deathsquads - infact 2 are currently fighting in the street outside my house for the honour of executing me - or at leat attempting to

if i told you any more - i would be foced to comit Ritual Suicide - or is that ritual suicide ?

have a crappy day

that's an interesting possibility.

i was 'accidentally' post-banned for a moment a while back. no explanation was given except 'whoops'.

I think it's a title thing

If you get writer, fighter or scholar it changes to those.

Right now you are just a member.
If you participate in debates, the writing forum or research forum you get the new titles below your name instead of member.

Ya know what I find interesting? The fact that any other B&Q thread has a moderator post within the first few posts.
This thread is on page 2 and it is 12 hours old as of now and not a single mod reply. I don't think there is a conspiracy here, but the Mods are withholding info, even if it is to see if we can figure it out on our own. Someone is getting a chuckle at our expense.

Or maybe 'the mods' don't know and they are trying to find out before posting anything?

Me being the trusting sort I think it's just a glitch or something like that....could be wrong though - it wouldn't be the first time!

It is however "Above Top Secret."

They arent withholding anything.

I think it's just the title of what you are as a member. Member to me shows someone is just a member, they arent' part of the debates, research forums or writing forums. When you get one of the titles I mentioned it changes to that title from just "member" to either "scholar, writer or fighter." It doesn't seem all that tricky..

So will a mod please tell me if I am right? I don't think it's that hard to figure it out. All members with those titles have them under their name, those without have member.

Just what a "M"ember would say, eh?

I am now scouring threads attempting to discern a pattern.

is it related t the difference noted between posters in this thread?:

youre missing the point. the distinction being asked about is Members vs members. Not the distinction you are referring to regarding other titles
