The Pope is, as usual, a bit behind the curve. U2 had a live link to the ISS back in '09 during their concerts.

(shakes head)..and (sighs)

I do not understand a pope, who seems more interested in space travel..and exploring the heavens, then he does for the millions of literally starving catholics down on the planet.

The absurd amount of money the vatican spent on some super duper telescope to be installed a few years back, pretty much shows you where their priorities are.

yep, thats a real love thy neighbour as yourself concept.

Let me guess - normally you'd be saying the opposite? "Pope is anti-science, yada yada yada..."
The Vatican has always had telescopes and working scientists, and has never (unlike many Protestant denominations) been anti-science.
But today, Gabby learned the Vatican has telescopes - oh noes! Second to the bigotry and hatred on ATS against Muslims and black people generally, the antiCatholic bigotry comes next.
Once, years ago, because some one had dared me to, I had a look at the Stormfront website. There are times when ATS reminds me of that experience. I need the Brain Bleach now!

no..I didn't learn it just recently..I learned a few years back..and I'm not saying I wish they didn't believe in science....just saying that what they spend their money on ,seems to be contradictory to what the bible suggests is important.

If you can't see that..then your blind.

I'm not anticatholic by the way..Just anticorruption..and that is what I see the vatican being..

Would be nice if this whole planet worried more about what was going on with people on this planet, and take care of humans..instead of trying to aquire more knowledge.
The amount of money spent on research, could help millions buy the basics they need to live.

Of course ..in your opinion..science is much more important than people in poverty

We still do not know enough of science to give credit/discredit the existence of God. So, science is flawed in that department imo. Science only being man created will always be fallible. Even math.

If we cannot prove the existance of other dimensions and parellel universes than by concept we cannot even be even an inch near towards the existance of God

Not true that he's an ex-Nazi of course...
He was in the Hitler Youth as a child. I studied German history at University, and learned that no child could avoid the Hitler youth if they valued the safety of their parents!
I saw that some other great brain in this thread said he's 'funny-looking', well so was Richard Nixon. So what? As for covering up paedophilia, hey, as I have said elsewhere, internet bigots are not exactly original thinkers are you? Details please!
Benedict has spoken about his great sorrow and pain regarding priestly hebephilia..

Vicky, people automaticly feel that once your a Nazi you are always a nazi even if you are forced in bad situations, like that solider who was charge for killing jews and he is now 80 something.

Yes..he has spoken some words that he expects the people want to hear.
Its well documented how many paedophile cases he has swept under the rug,

There was a documentary about it on Tv..which showed his signature on many many forms.

When they approached him to talk about it..he swatted the reporter out of the way..(shakes head)

yeah.. a real leader for Jesus...
what a joke!!!!

Its not about the nazi thing..its about the well documented coverups.

Only certain war crimes. I am sure this german man was up many nights for what he done. Guilt is a powerful form of punishment. If that is true, then majority of Germany should have been trailed. The country itself and everyone should have been shot since they "USE" to support Hitler.

Please don't jump to conclusions about me! Tell what you're saying to NASA, or to your own government, or your own multinational crap American corporations!
You Americans have wrecked our economy. You are the ones who invaded South American and African countries, and/or overthrew their governments so y'all could have bananas and coffee for pennies.
Hypocrite much?
I suppose you're totally unaware of all the work Catholics and other Christians do around the world even in your own poverty-stricken cesspool of a country) to alleviate poverty?

First of all you assume I'm American...wrong

Second of all..did I say that all catholics were bad? NO!

Why do most catholic orders take the vow of poverty, but yet have miilions of dollars in investments and cash .
(they rationalize that it is not indiviual assets, but belonging to a group, therefore they are indiviually poor)..pffft

They damn well should help poor people... they have do something to make themselves look worthy of all the tax free donations they get.

So it would seem!
I well remember a man called Hans Momsen who addressed our class (and also the Pol Sci students) at Uni. Momsen was another reluctant Hitler Youth member, who travelled the world with an AV show to talk to students in various countries about his experience.
My question is, where are the Catholics on ATS? It should not be up to me to tackle this bigotry, I am not even a Catholic!

these are not my words, but "redhawk"'s from elsewhere on the net. im intrigued by this train of thought! interesting theory...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't usually deal in speculation or predicting the future, but this is just too weird and deserves attention.

For you to understand this, you need to look at it in steps. First, consider these facts that we know:

1. The space shuttle is in orbit.

2. There are 12 astronauts on that space shuttle.

3. The Pope is going to call them at exactly 7:11 EDT. This is unprecedented.

Read this:
the flame trench

Now, not long ago I had watched a short 2-part video of an interview of the late Rik Clay. He was a very intelligent and observant young man who excelled in symbology, politics and religion. Part of his interview was about his observations on the number "1111", regarding history and symbology. These 2 videos total about 10 or 15 minutes total, but that interview lasted 4 hours and he exposed tons of other fascinating facts relating to 2012, secret societies, the antichrist and other stuff. Right after this interview, he commited "suicide", but I call BS and say that he was too close to the truth and exposed it and was killed for it.

Now watch these:

Amazing 1111 Facts to Consider 1 of 2 by Rik Clay

youtbe rik clay

Amazing 1111 Facts to Consider 1 of 2 by Rik Clay

youtube rik clay 2

Now that you've watched those, think about this (and here is where I get into speculation):

1. Never in history has a Pope ever called a space shuttle.

2. Since there are 12 astronauts on that shuttle, could it be that the Pope represents Christ and the astronauts represent the 12 Apostles?

3. Why is the Pope calling them at 7:11 EDT, instead of some other even number such as 7:10 or 7:15?

4. I did some time converting and 7:11 EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) coverts to 11:11 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and UT (Universal Time).
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is a term originally referring to mean "SOLAR TIME"

lol..I was catholic...and I am saying what I have seen with my own eyes.

I also did not say ALL catholics were bad,but in my estimation ,the vatican is corrupt..and that is from documented facts.

You call it bigotry..I call it calling a spade a spade.

As far as criminals suffering extreme guilt for what they have done..many have, but that doesn't render them exempt from doing punishment for their crimes.

Why should these germans be any different??

In my opinion, yes. Pouring money into poor countries will more than likely make the problem worse through increasing their numbers and making them dependent on aid. On the other hand, science is the only reason why we have 7 billion humans on this planet, and not 1 billion and 6 billion dead. I cant think of better investment to increase quality of life of people than science, IMHO.

According to Malachy, peter is the name of thefirst and last pope...I know peter the apostle was first...that wasnt in the question...no....this one now is next to last...the one named peter to come is the one who will preside over the last days and be the one to cause the church to be called the great harlot....

umm..maybe pouring money into building water supplies, and teaching them to grow food might help?

As far as science goes, yes it has done some marvellous things for us..I should have said specifically space research.
(although much money has been poured into medical research that has been thoroughly wasted)

You sound like you have a problem with third world countries?...and maybe secretly wish for them to all die...hopefully not.

Maybe. Education is the key, basic infrastructure is also important..

I should have said specifically space research.

It inspires people, and I am sure there are plenty of spinoff technologies people use daily that were advanced in high-tech space related research.

You sound like you have a problem with third world countries?...and maybe secretly wish for them to all die...hopefully not.

Not at all. I do have a problem with their situation, and our attitude towards it, tough. It is sad that some people in 21st century still live in such conditions, and our inability to improve that points towards some deeper issues than "throw more money at it", IMHO.

Throwing money at it isn't what I was implying..but giving money to programs that would help would be a start.

As far as the vatican spending billions on scientific research..well...my ORIGINAL point was...that they are a church..based on the writings of the Holy Bible...which commands that they help the poor, and needy. If you think helping the poor and needy is dishing out a meal or two a day to the homeless ,in some areas...its not mine.

This is all I have to say on this topic.
