Pope makes first contact with astronauts in space

www.abc.net.au

Pope Benedict XVI has chatted with astronauts floating high above Earth as the Vatican linked up with the International Space Station for the first-ever papal video call to space.

The crews of the ISS and the linked US space shuttle Endeavour excitedly waved to the pope, who smiled and waved back.

"Welcome aboard the Space Station your Holiness," said Dmitry Kondratyev, Russian commander of the 26th long-duration mission to the International Space Station.

Speaking from his armchair in the Vatican library, Pope Benedict said he admired the astronauts' courage and commitment and des

Well here is a turn-up for the books!

Does the pope now suspect our predecessors may actually have been aliens?

"an adventure to discover the origins of humanity"

Never thought I would see the day !

This may now open all religion up to the idea that we have lived with archaic doctrines for way too long, and its time to move on to less fictional solutions.

Well that is my take.

Now over to you good folk.

Religion is constantly changing itself to meet the demands of science in order to maintain some kind of control.

it must of shook him up after to speaking to the man in the heavens and actually getting a reply this time.

its like the exact opposite of a religous experience.

(over at the vatican) "guess what happened to me today?" "i had a scientific experience" "i think i am a born again scientist"

did you know that the vatican owns 2 of some of the most powerful telescopes in the world? almost makes you wonder what they have hiding in the vatican that would contradict church teachings :/ (dont mean to turn the thread around)

(shakes head)..and (sighs)

I do not understand a pope, who seems more interested in space travel..and exploring the heavens, then he does for the millions of literally starving catholics down on the planet.

The absurd amount of money the vatican spent on some super duper telescope to be installed a few years back, pretty much shows you where their priorities are.

yep, thats a real love thy neighbour as yourself concept.

This pope isnt the usualy run-of-the-mill pope...hes an x-nazi for one thing....hes also kinda weird in his looks and manner of addressing people...he ignores the needs of his flock to play politics....like i said...weird for a pope

He's done it all across america as well.

He gives me the creeps....(shudders)

Reminds me of a saying I heard once regarding the catholic church...."scum rises to the top"

I wish it wasn't so, but it appears to be true.

Am I the only one weird enough to see the possibility of it being...ritualistic mebbe? Yes, strange Pope. I love me some Caltholic peoples, they are good folk, but the papacy is kind of creepy.

Edit to add this one hits me as possibly relevant too. A little older, but wow! Ignore the title because Balducci claims they are our friends:

Let me guess - normally you'd be saying the opposite? "Pope is anti-science, yada yada yada..."
The Vatican has always had telescopes and working scientists, and has never (unlike many Protestant denominations) been anti-science.
But today, Gabby learned the Vatican has telescopes - oh noes! Second to the bigotry and hatred on ATS against Muslims and black people generally, the antiCatholic bigotry comes next.
Once, years ago, because some one had dared me to, I had a look at the Stormfront website. There are times when ATS reminds me of that experience. I need the Brain Bleach now!

As much as I am an anti-theist, at least the Catholics are not so anti-science as the protestants. The pope accepts both evolution and big bang, and Vatican observatory is one of the oldest such institutions in the world.

Is this pope the last,or next-to-last?..I thought Malachy named the last pope Peter?..Its all a bunch of hokum,Jesus is the only savior, not some earthly figurehead...and then there is the pagan idolatry and symbolism of that branch of paganism...the whole idea of a "pope" is just wrong..its easy to see why a lot of people believe that the catholic church is the babylon whore of Revelation

Prophicies of St Malachy names every pope up until the last...pretty accurate...gives the symbol name for every pope from when he lived (in the 12 century I think it was)until the present...the last one is named peter....something about the nazi says he is the next to last....they are all evil substitutions so i only keep up with them just to b aware of what the bad guys are doing....

Peter the apostle was the first pope silly. It has been written down in many prophecies that he will return to take over vatican. Not really take over, but keep the warm seat.

They can afford the telescopes that they have. They announced on the History Channel that they pay NO taxes. Yet their sheep or I mean followers give their hard earned money, WHICH, they pay taxes on, to a religious organization that takes their money and then openly admits it to the public not paying taxes. I guess it would be concidered a CORPORATION now?
