To what extent are chemtrails a hoax?

The same old debunked evidence keeps getting regurgitated in the field of chemtrails. It makes me wonder what percentage of the people who promote chemtrails are actually just internet trolls, just doing it "for the lulz".

Now I know a lot of people do actually take the theory very seriously. But some of the claims, or proposed "evidence" are just so ridiculous, it's hard to imagine that the person making them really believes in them. Of course some of the people making them are just kids, with very little knowledge of science or the world, and some will be "true believers" who simply accept anything that agrees with their world view.

But are there trolls out there, just stirring the chemtrail pot for lulz? How can you tell? Has anyone every admitted to doing this? Have you ever done it?

I find the subject very interesting. I'm trying to get to the bottom of it.

Trolls are like the dark matter in the universe. You know it's out there, you just can't see it. It has an effect, but it's hard to measure.

When I debate chemtrails on the internet I sometimes get the sense that I'm just arguing with a troll, someone who is just regurgitating the same arguments for what ever reason. For lulz.

I'm not saying that's everyone in the chemtrail community, or even a substantial part. But I'm interested in what other people think. Are there trolls stirring it up? Or is everyone actually serious about what they say?

Ummmm....every one of the people who realize that "chem"-trails are a fantasy, as they are described and misunderstood by the hysterical *believers* is interested in the "Geo-engineering theory(ies)".

No one is disturbing any "truth seeking" there. In fact, by showing the fallacy of so many who don't actually read the reports and studies properly, it is bringing more clarity to the subject.

I think these people that spend hour after hour, day after day trying to prove there are no chemtrails must have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. And I am not trying to be funny with that statement. Really who would bother to do what they do and to do it over and over and over? They have never been able to prove geo-engineering is not taking place. The only thing they can prove is that contrails exist which we already know that! Some people call them shills but that would imply they are being paid. Who would pay them for that? What a waste of money because they have accomplished nothing! Well I guess that is the case with most government workers. LOL Our tax money at work.

The only truth to the 'chemtrail' hoax is the existence of more persistent contrails today (because of better engine design, high bypass turbofans ftw).

Sadly, I don't think the people claiming that 'chemstuff' is sprayed so the government can bounce HAARP off of it to control our minds, are trolling.

Are they stupid or just paranoid? Well, I think they have some kind of paranoid schizophrenia, just enough so that they are still functional. Or maybe they are the same people who go on about the Birth Certificate bs, or tea partiers, they are just ignorant and looking for someone to blame for their own failures/issues (which is odd considering they are really heavily into the whole 'personal accountability' thing).

So you are incredulously claiming debunkers wouldn't be paid to debunk, then accusing them of being government workers. Gosh, you need a lesson in critical thinking. Have a look at this thread, I challenge you to refute the points made in the OP.

NO one is trying to "prove geo-engineering is not taking place". Because, it is. Even if unintentionally. IN the Amazon, every time a huge tract of rain forest is destroyed. Every time a large city is built, or a new dam, and an artificial lake forms. Et cetera.....

These are the activities of Humans on the surface of the Earth. They have consequences, and by default, will affect climates, whether locally or globally, the amount of effect varies.

Air pollution, from factories, smokestacks of power plants (coal), automobile exhaust emissions, even gas-powered two-cycle engine lawnmowers! And, yes...jet turbines pollute too. One more thing responsible, from jets, as a CONSEQUENCE of our love of fast air transportation technology, are CONTRAILS.

The additional contrails formed, that may, or may NOT be an overall increase in cirrus cloud coverage (that is still being studied, and whether it actually has any significant effect) are certainly never argued as "not taking place".


It is the inane and truly paranoid *belief* that is pushed, by the few loudest and ill-informed out there, that what are just common contrails are, in their ignorant view, "something else". And, without any evidence to suggest that they are anything else other than contrails.

SO, once again....second or third poster to the thread, but....DID you address the point of the OP??

Presumably there must have been trolls on at least SOME topics here on ATS? Has anyone ever admitted to just making stuff up on ATS?

Yes, there have been multiple cases, over time. Usually, it is the membership who ferret them out, and when confirmed, the Staff deal with it accordingly, depending on circumstances.

From a debunkers perspective, trolls are a bit of a waste of time. However they do also serve the same purpose as a discussions with True Believers - that of acting as the foil in a Socratic drilling down to the truth. It can be a bit of a time sink though.

Unmasking a troll, I'd imagine, might be a good object lesson in not trusting everything you read on the internet, and checking your source.

Specifically with geoengineering - there's some suggestions that energy companies have a vested interest in muddying the waters (figuratively, that's not some new geoegineering scheme ). I doubt that as a motivation for chemtrail trolling - lulz seem more likely.

I know, that really helps.

But even if the are trolls, it makes little difference to me. The ignorance they show for fun will tear down the myth of "chemtrails." So if there are any pathetic internet trolls in the midst, I thank them.

I do fear, however, that their association of entities to this myth will soon get out of hand troll or no. Sooner or later I envision universities and the like will be under fire because they teach real science, and not "chem-science" which means they too are "in on it."

But then again, they never do anything about what they are so worried about it, so probably not. The level of apathy in these people astounds me. I am almost 100% positive any of us that are trying to educate the "believers" would be the first to Washington if it were true. The real sad part is, I feel that we would be the only ones there if it was true regardless.

The persons out there with a post high school degree should be worried, we are outnumbered.

"Seek" was the wrong choice of words. Based on how many times we have actually give the truth, a better word choice to replace that would be "Discard"

You may find those of us who have noticed the change and post here to find like-minded people get so wound up when you have gangs of anti chem members who spend many hours attacking our right to speak on this subject you use half truth's to try and ridicule us and when that dose not work you have the likes of weedwacker firepiloit [to name 2] attack our character with dismissive remark's,question our mental health and become out right abusive i've even had one post i know where you live and you wonder why we get irate.
Why don't you try thinking about how you would feel if you sat down and everything you say you have 15-20 people who sit and call you a lier then imagine how you would feel if that happened every time you posted something.
also i would like to say again i do not use the word chemtrail because it is not proven yet my concern is the fact that whatever the reason for these trail's persisting day in and day out when only last summer not 1 that lasted beyond 5 mins.
so the planes themselves must be the root cause and that need's to be addressed because i like clear blue sky's without a cloud in them like last summer after all i live in the uk and anyone who lives here will tell you that we don't get alot of real sunny day's so it would be nice to sunbath without the misty white blanket of sh*t.

Well, then call for a ban of aviation where you live, and to restrict the airspace to make it free of all aircraft. Or maybe you can ask that all jet powered aircraft overhead you are required to turn off their engines and gilde until they are past your locale.

Its either that or sue nature to change how the atmosphere is.

the thread was started by the op asking if there where any troll's so therefore i posted in reply to the op there are other room's in which i post on this subject but it really get's my goat that you are really that childish that even when a subject of a thread is a question on our character you still use it as an excuse to name call when i myself do not!

And it is perfectly within reason to question the motives of people who believe in nonsense with out even a shred of evidence. Especially when their misunderstandings are explained to them ad infinitum.
