You know damn well what the history of this phrase means. You can deny you are a racist all you want...but your words speak differently.
I don't believe that Anon was making a racist statement any more than President Obama was when he used the same statement.

As far as the back of the bus goes, my friends and I always fought to be at the back of the bus. Before you call me unqualified to have an opinion in such matters, I am mixed race, part being black.
edit on 20-5-2011 by butcherguy because: (no reason given)

The thing is...Obama didn't use that statement...the OP is distorting Obama's comments so he can get away with making a racially charged comment.

If you are denying the historical significance of "sitting on the back of the bus"...then you are choosing to be ignorant of history. You and your friends are CHOOSING to sit on the back of the bus...not being forced to because of your skin color. Big difference.

Are you denying that President Obama told the Republicans that they were 'welcome to come along for the ride, and they could sit at the back of the bus' (I am paraphrasing)?

Yes, because he never said BUS. He was talking about driving the economy into a ditch...never once did he use the phrase "sit in the back of the BUS". Here is the exact quote.

www.foxnews.com...

He said Republicans had driven the economy into a ditch and then stood by and criticized while Democrats pulled it out. Now that progress has been made, he said, "we can't have special interests sitting shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back."

I even used Fox News so there is no complaints about bias.

Obama never said BUS...never. He often referred to a car being pulled out of a ditch...not once did he say bus. That didn't stop tons of conservative websites and blog to claim he said "sit in the back of the bus". Conservative talk show hosts pushed the same thing...even though Obama's metaphor never involved a bus....NEVER.

And here you are...continuing to spread the mis-information.

JMO, but if you really do not believe President Obama was referring to a bus, you are naive. I would hope that you are not naive, but the alternative would be that you are being disingenuous, and I do not want to believe that of you.

ETA: Do you think if a white Republican politician had uttered the President Obama statement cited .... the bus connection could have possibly been made by thoughtful Democratic politicians and the MSM?

Beautiful example of "changing the narrative" by the progressive left.

The thread is about the tough race Obama is facing, yet the progs change it to race so they don't have to talk about all those silly "issues".

From now on kids, "Your RACE CARD has been declined. Please call a service administrator for further information".

What do you expect Obama to say? "Yeah, I got this one in the bag! I'm the winner for sure! This is going to be a breeze"!

Which reporter made up the word bus? Nothing you linked to had the word "bus" in it. What reporter? I actually think some anti-Obama people just use phrases like this to 'sneak' in a little racial jibe - just so they can scream like babies when someone calls them racist.

I don't think it's going to be a tough race for Obama. Unless the GOP pulls something out of a hat.

I think we can see what Obama is really about with this statement:

“our goal was never just to get back to where we were in 2007 and 2008.”

So I guess He wants things to stay bad??? The economy was not as bad then as it is now, IMO.

See this is were I sound like an Obama supporter...

what planet are you on? I think is is all the doom and gloom, righty propaganda you guys drink in, which is put there to motivate you to vote

1/20/2009 the DOW was @ 7949.09

5/20/2011 @ 12592.00

"Darrrrrr, what does that mean Janky?"

That exemplifies the fact that the economy is becoming liquid again, that people are spending and investing alike

If you invested in the s&p 500 when Obama took office

850

today

1340

One of my stocks WFM

was at $8.19 around the time I got them, the Winter prior to Obama's inauguration

Today they are worth over $60.00, that is nearly a complete rebound to where it was, they are hiring and building
so many new locations it will make your head spin.

If you like in a small town/community chock full of FOX news watchers conservatives, I am sure the whole lot of you are ready to commit mass suicide. I can only imagine some of this nonsense stuff in a face to face sowing circle.

I hope you guys bring Romney to the party, I do

OP

The damn Obama care mandate was to appease you guys, because you were terrified of socialized medicine.
O'Romney care is going to feel real good rolling off of the tongue.

Maybe you will be lucky and GOP can be elected, roll back usury rates to 1400's levels, give the medicare trust
to wall street to "invest", give the social security trust to wall street to invest, give the proceeds back in the form
of tax breaks for Warren Buffet and the Saudi Royals US holding companies.

You hang on, things are better, it may just take time to get to you and yours, not because of Obama, but because the economy is cyclical, always was been. Just STOP being so goddamn doom and gloom unless you like the state of the economy to maintain this way for longer, it is pretty simple.

Thanks for the justification! Meaning that I don't have a ton of money tied up in the market. It can swing up to the moon, and I am not seeing it yet, as you say. I have been in a lot of mills and factories that still don't have orders....
and know a lot of people that are still laid off from their jobs. Yeah it's looking up for the community organizers that have some money to gamble in the stock market.

Great points

I fully agree, if FOX NEWS (who encouraged the "anti conservative principles to no end) remains the
mouth of conservatism, you guys will run a batcake and lose. Conservatism got tainted by the southern
Democratic rejects of '64, Reagans Randisms and the resulting full bore, corporatist attitudes.

I mean there use to be many pro union conservative group members in my family, my Grandpas entire
social circle were conservative, unionized steel working Masons and church goers.

Now those folks would not vote for the majority of the mess you guys run.

I hope Misoirs type boots the rest of yall to troll patch

Too much crying on this thread. wah wah

Some of you people need to grow thicker skin, seriously though.

Or go out and enjoy life once in a while.

You people who keep throwing the race card around at people need to take a look at yourselves.

If race was not important to you, then you should stop constantly bringing it up every 5 minutes and throwing the word around like its the word 'And'.

Is this going to be Obamas re-election platform? Race ?

Does his supporters have anything of substance to run on besides trying to paint an entire half of the countries population as racists? (If you aint with Obama, you is racist)

Truth is..YOU WANT it to be about race.

Im really sick and tired of having to try to converse with people who dont look at both sides of the issue.
"THIS IS THE WAY IT IS...HES RIGHT...YOUR WRONG...I DONT CARE WHAT YOU SAY...YOU ARE JUST A RACIST".

- Can I make a suggestion to the ATS staff?
anytime someone uses the word "racist" directed towards another member on this website, they should be penalized 500 points or put on a temporary ban, because this nonsense is just getting out of control.

Little more on topic- Tough race? Hes the Turtle in this race and Ron Paul is the Rabbit.
The way its looking for Obama(And his SUPPORTERS), is NOT GOOD.

I think the one thing that will hurt him the most, is his supporters.
They NEVER hold his feet to the flames.
Hes ALWAYS doing good in their eyes.
Can do NO WRONG.
Its really sad and Pathetic.

=)

Do you ride shotgun in a bus?
The term comes from the days of stage coaches, just in case you didn't know.
The guy that held the reins needed protection from Indians and highwaymen(thieves) and driving the team of horses did not allow him to protect himself very well with a firearm. The guy that sat next to him, or 'rode shotgun', performed that duty.

The stagecoach was the equivalent of todays buses. So yes, one can ride shotgun in a bus. The seat closest to the driver would be the location if you are wondering.

If you are asking me if I 'ride shotgun in a bus' personally, the answer is no. I have only 'rode shotgun' in a liquor truck in the Washington, DC area, and that was many years ago.

I live in the second biggest city in the country and it booming here, it has been booming since Feb of this year.
I intended to take pictures of the cars when the economy tanked because it was ghost townish, I really wish I did now. The same lots are full and the stay fuller until later with each passing month... If you are in a smaller
town or city I am sure it must have not spread just yet, I have faith it will pick up for you and yours, hang on there.

Sounds just like a much maligned economic theory called trickle down to me.

I do have my hopes up, I am not as gloom and doom as you might think. I just think that our country could be a great one if our politicians, and I mean 99% of them would spend our money the way it should be spent.

ETA: I gave you a star on your last one, you obviously do have faith in our country. I do too, just not in our politicians.

Obama will be sitting in the back soon (not soon enough imo).

The race will be a tough one for all candidates from now until the elections. Let the mud sling

Last November we made history. The coming Presidential election will also make history.
The talking heads, MSM, are losing on a daily basis in their (empathy) attempt to persuade the people.
The people will rise up again just as they did in November. Obama is a one-term prez

I don't pretend to know what someone means or is secretly thinking. He was using a metaphor, he repeatedly said CAR.

Here is what is happening. Conservatives, who continually say things aren't about race, hoped all over this comment insisting (like you are) that they KNEW Obama was refering to sitting on the back of the bus. Even though he never said it, and he always used the word car. They were outraged...they were completely taken aback that he could even say this. And then....as time goes by...someone like the OP uses this distorted quote of his, which at the time I'm sure he was outraged about, and he uses it as a justification so he can use it himself. Just to get that little racial undertone going.

Kind of like how racist say "Well rappers call each other the N word...why can't I call them that". It's a justification to be able to say what they really think. Just like the OP...I'm sure he was giddy being able to type that phrase...knowing he would come back and say "but Obama said it too". It's pathetic and weak...and it is so transparent it isn't even funny.

Like I said...I don't mind really...the more racial you guys continue to make it...the better it is for Obama.

LOL...so you and your crew want to be able to throw out racial phrases and create racial undertones...but you don't want to be called on it.

Too bad...for the OP to say that it's time for Obama to get on the back of the bus is racial...and I'll call it out when I see it.

Little more on topic- Tough race? Hes the Turtle in this race and Ron Paul is the Rabbit.
The way its looking for Obama(And his SUPPORTERS), is NOT GOOD.

You can also go back to my first post and refute any of the FACTS I posted there.

Obama is in a great position to get re-elected. The economy is just going to get better, unemployment will continue to fall, Republicans can't say a thing about foreign policy now, and when the SCOTUS rules in favor of the Healthcare Reform...that will be the nail in the coffin.

As for Ron Paul...he's not even going to get out of the gate in this race. Republicans will never give him the nomination. Hey...maybe he'll run as an independent...that will pretty much ensure an Obama win.

I think the one thing that will hurt him the most, is his supporters.
They NEVER hold his feet to the flames.
Hes ALWAYS doing good in their eyes.
Can do NO WRONG.
Its really sad and Pathetic.

I can give you the same list I gave someone else who claims that those of us that support Obama can do no wrong...but it's a waste of time.

When it comes down to it, for all of Obama's faults...he is still head and shoulders above any of the Republican candidates that are in the ring.
