But, to what end? What do YOU gain from mocking another's beliefs?
Does it make you feel better about your own?
It is abundantly obvious that NO ONE has the real answer to what lies beyond, so everyone is entitled to their views, however ridiculous I may see them.
Compassion means that you have an understanding that every one of us is doing the best we can do knowing what we currently know. Easy to deconstruct and mock, harder to accept that they have the right to worship and believe however they see fit.
Must've hit a nerve.

I'd go to war to defend your right to your own belief system and right to worship, that doesn't mean I have to take your specific belief seriously.
I'd suggest it's a normal human reaction to a position or belief that we perceive as being ridiculous in nature. A shared belief not worthy of consideration etc.... I'd also suggest that debate of any kind involves a re-enforcement of one's own belief system hence the reason why we often passionately debate a subject matter.
An emotional reaction to a debate is not abnormal. If I was to enter into a debate discussing homosexuality or abortion with devout Christians (as i have) the reaction I would often get is anger, disbelief and mockery.
Surely as long as it's not too aggressive or personal a little mockery or self-depracating humour is hardly a bad thing? Perhaps to show that we don't always take ourselves so very, very seriously?edit on 21-5-2011 by clangers23 because: (no reason given)

The Bible teaches forgiveness for all who come to Jesus and accept the sacrific He made for every person on this planet. It teaches love.
The koran teaches that anyone who does not convert to islam is either killed or enslaved. The koran teaches hatred.

I agree that we mustn't take ourselves and our nebulous beliefs too seriously, as major death and suffering is an all too predictable outcome.
My point is that those who consistently abuse and mock Christians are really just giving them what they want.
In order to silence all irrational thought processes we must prove the viability of logical ones. Become a beacon of humanity and compassion, using your commanding logic and science as your 'faith'. Convert, by example not by resorting to the EXACT same flawed and detrimental strategies.
Love, above all else.

I just love when people who just come on here and make statements with no proof.
Very believable!

The Bible is not corrupted.
Neither is the koran.
They are both the way they were meant to be.

Kind of like you just did above?
Anyway, IMO, you have to be someone who is easily brainwashed to believe in any of these things. Centering a debate over which fairy tale is your favorite borderlines on insanity.
BTW, OP, *straight*

I don't want to derail the thread. This happens always when guys like you jump in and post crap like that.
The thread is about the todays "rapture" which is based on the Bible (according to Camping) and not on Qur'an. So discuss Camping and the Bible, not the Qur'an.

I'd suggest the core issue with both the Bible and Koran is their interpretation. The Old Testament is really rather full of parables showing a God full of wrath and vengeance. Difficult to disagree with the teaching of Jesus (on the assumption those were his actual words). It doesn't mean that I and many others believe that Jesus was anything other than an important historical individual with advanced views on society rather than the son of God.

The Bible:
Matthew 5:44-45
But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.
Matthew 18:21-35
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."
Matthew 26:28
This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Luke 6:35-38;42
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.
The Quran:
"Fight and slay the pagans (infidels) wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war." Quran, Sura 9:5
"Their punishment is execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from the opposite sides, or exile from the land." Sura 5:33
"Let not the unbelievers think they will ever get away... strike terror into the enemy of God and your enemy... rouse the faithful to arms!” Sura 8:59
"If they reject your judgment, know that it is Allah's wish to scourge them for their sins. Sura 5:49
