Fine, we shall agree to disagree on the Panic thing, as to me it does look like a knee jerk panic as the result of 1 person behaving like a chimp. And I haven't noticed anyone I speak to talking about the knives thing, it seems to be just the media hyping it up....... the exact same argument you used to say that the game thing wasn't similar.

I didnt intend to get into a slanging match with anyone anyway Sminkey, just pointing out the whole culture of knee-jerking, poor legislation and lack of personal responsability within our society. I read alot of your posts, and actually agree with you on most things, if not all, so i would prefer to keep things friendly

- but Stu the only real difference I can see with the knives story is that it at least has some Gov basis. I'd be the first to agree that the knives story isn't one actually 'sweeping the nation' either.

- I think you make a fair point there. I'll agree that is the tendancy.

- thanks for that, and me too
, but a little spice keeps things moving everyone knows that!

Fair enough, the Gov isnt about to ban computer games, but i thought it was relevant within the whole "knee-jerking" context.
Besides, I needed to vent my anger over it, as I live and breath computer games (much to the dismay of the missus) and I am anxiuos to play doom3 ASAP. I would cry if they banned that

- More power to you, an adult gamer!

Yeah my wife doesn't get them much either although she will have a go at soul calibre and house of the dead on the dreamcast - excellent with lightgun (what a shame that little gem died a death).

(If only it didn't crash so much I'd use my pc more for them but many - esp ea games - just end up making me mad. C&C generals zero hour is a pretty good game but buggy as hell.)

Another thing, why do you blame the gun/knife? So, I misj up me spileng, do I git to blima the kiibord? Or do I blame myself for the mispelled words?(I said So, I mess up my spelling, do I get to blame the keyboard?) In other words, really stupid to blame the keyboard because I can't spell. Same with guns.

You are comparing misuse of a keyboard to misuse of guns and knives?!? I hope no-one ever gives you a gun

But seriously, there are far too many people that do/could abuse weapons, so I think it is best if people do not have weapons.

for christs sake!! Guns are NOT dangerous, they are only dangerous when

A - LOADED
B - Have the Safety off
C - Racked

and

D - Sombody that knows how to use a gun that is mentally deranged

if you've got sombody who has all of that, and i'll congratulate you for finding them, because they are VERY rare out of all the criminal world!!

This thread was about knives, but seeing as you have started talking about guns I will justify to you why people should not be allowed to own guns. I think I can do that in this thread because I think the same principles apply to knives and so are relevant.

"Homicide rates tend to be related to firearm ownership levels. Everything else being equal, a reduction in the percentage of households owning firearms should occasion a drop in the homicide rate".

Evidence to the Cullen Inquiry 1996: Thomas Gabor, Professor of Criminology - University of Ottawa

"The level of gun ownership world-wide is directly related to murder and suicide rates and specifically to the level of death by gunfire."

International Correlation between gun ownership and rates of homicide and suicide.' Professor Martin Killias, May 1993.

Gun Deaths - International Comparisons

Gun deaths per 100,000 population (for the year indicated):

Homicide Suicide Unintentional

USA 4.08 (1999) 6.08 (1999) 0.42 (1999)

Canada 0.54 (1999) 2.65 (1997) 0.15 (1997)

Switzerland 0.50 (1999) 5.78 (1998) -

Scotland 0.12 (1999) 0.27 (1999) -

England/Wales 0.12 (1999/00) 0.22 (1999) 0.01 (1999)

Japan 0.04* (1998) 0.04 (1995)

I own several guns thank you. But it is the same! You people blame the gun, not the person. So I get to blame the keyboard for mispelling, not me. It is ridiculous to do yes, but that is what anti-gun people do. According to them a gun will kill you all on it's own, no one needs to be using it, it is just dangerous because it is there. But a gun is as dangerous as a baseball bat. A bat can kill you if SOME PERSON hits you with it, but do we ban bats? NO! We put the killer in jail. Why is it different with guns?

Kriz_4, Those incidents are very rare if you concider that they are out of an ENTIRE population!! Those incidents were probally accidents or related to Crime Sindicates, Pimps or Druglords.

But your average criminal on the street that has a gun, it probally wont be cocked, loaded, or the criminal more than likely wont know how to work it.

Most criminals buy guns with no idea how to use them.

I was just joking with you in my last post, however you appear to have taken it seriously.

You compare keyboards to knife/gun crime. I understand your point(if I am understanding you), that a gun alone will not kill someone.

However allowing everyone to own one is a serious problem. Everyone is allowed to own a keyboard, in some countries everyone is allowed to own a gun.

How many deaths or accidental deaths happen due to keyboard ownership?

I Dont know, But i bet you some bastard has beaten sombody with one, or some poor sod has been electricuted when he accidently spilt coffee on his keyboard.

Most people who legally own guns are good citizens, I mean you have to go through a long process to get a firearm, with legal requirments to see if your background is clean enough for you to be trustworthy to get a firearm, for those people who are going to use it for bad deeds why do all that? why not just buy one off the street, only takes 10 minutes!

true, but if gun posession was illegal then police would be able to arrest one of these bad guys just for having the gun, instead of for a weak charge like public disorderliness.

Sure, they can arrest the guy for having the gun, but if its aquired illegally, they wont know about it until he commits an offence like armed robbery, or uses the gun.

Well, the arguement went off course because people want to ban knives, like they did guns. Oh, and guess what? Englands crime rate has gone up since the gun ban! Same with Australia.Info on this here.......

www.tysknews.com...
members.ozemail.com.au...
www.gunweek.com...

I will stop posting more, I think this kinda makes my point. A gun ban has only made things worse, and so will a knife ban.

Ok Se7en is right this thread is about knifes, We have plenty of topics on gun laws, Please read through them as they cover allot of what is being said here,

Now lets get back to knife's.

Do we think all should be banned?
Or just certain ones?

Maybe the length/style should be looked at...

What about flick knife's?? There small, usefull ? but they are used often as a Weapon, Should they be banned?
