I'm starting to think that women really intimidate you. It's nothing to be ashamed off. lot's of people have things that scare the shyt outta them. And women can be deadly for sure. Personal Arch Angel kinda scares me. lol But brother you gotta face those fears. lol

Little known fact (because they hide it really well) - nearly ALL women can outshoot most men! I've got a theory that it's that whole right brain/left brain thing. You know, the same thing that makes women able to spot a missing button at 50 paces, where most men can't even be sure what color the whole shirt is. Women can pick out details much better than men, and that goes a long way towards making a good shot. Men, on the other hand, tends to view the bigger picture, in it's totality, and come up with grander schemes (some of which can be truly hair-raising!)

In short, a typical man may be able to hit the broad side of a barn, but a typical woman will pop that round right through a knot-hole in one of the boards.

How is thread female bashing? Maybe some responses have been. Most single women will happen to have most ofe these men children at that time. I would like to see them all safe. At the end of the day. This is an extremely realistic topic. I find it unbelievable that there have been no questions like, What is the best way to prepare in the event of an emergency. Or What plant found in my area will relieve infection or solve other health problems (soldier's foot) It's that pain in the arse plant that grows in between the concrete sidewalk slabs and broken ground. It also cures dysentery which killed more soldiers in the civil war than bullets. Simply from drinking bad water.

Intimidate? Why, that don't even BEGIN to cover it! Face those fears? Why that's why I'm staying awake, so I can face 'em rather than risk sleeping through them!

Seriously, the first time I ever saw women in combat was in Nicaragua in 1979. Women in amongst the guerrillas. They will kill you DEAD, and not bat an eye over it, although they're a bit more finicky about cleaning their knives up and getting the blood off before they start carving up dinner. They've not got as much trouble getting around through thick brush and toting that heavy ol' gun as some of these vets will have you believe, either.

Here's the deal. In a SHTF scenario, it's not gonna be all tanks and drones. It's far more likely to be raw brutes against other raw brutes. In that scenario, women have every bit as much of the tools as men, and more than most. They are not hampered by false conclusions that men are weaker than they, as many of these men seem to be. They KNOW the score, and will even it by any means available.

They won't warn you that it's about to get evened up, either.

They can take pain better than most men. I'm not talking the old "child bearing pain" argument, although there's probably some truth in that. I'm talking random pains that we all put up with even in civilized society. In a SHTF scenario, there's going to be more random illness. They can bear it better, and keep on trucking. For verification, just watch how they react to a cold, versus the average male "AH crap! I'm DYING!" reaction, even now while it's NOT all falling down.

Nossir. They may be lacking in "physical strength" on average, compared to the average man, but they make up for it with increased fortitude and determination, not to mention a willingness to ACT while the average guy is saying "aw, ain't it cute how she thinks she can whoop me?"

Then BLAM. They will NAIL you while you are trying to be all chivalrous or brutish, as the inclination may strike you.

Matter of fact, I'd like to have a few of them on MY side... but I'd be skeert to go to sleep!

Female instinct will take over.

In my opinion, a single attractive female will make it much farther than her unattractive counterpart. She will latch on to the most dominant/ strong male she can find. In many ways using him. Of course (especially at first) cultural values such as loyalty and faithfulness will still have a part to play, but as things get more dire and especially if she has children, those values will take a back seat to the will to survive and "do what ever is necessary" to live as best as possible.

Unfortunately, other than good hearted males that are willing to take on an unattractive female (burden) I have a feeling weaker/ less attractive females (especially over weight ones) will perish more quickly. At that point those females that do survive..well #. Id watch my back for those less than desireable females shunned by the male populus.

The unattractive ones try harder... you don't have to watch your "friends" around them, etc., and the overweight ones are good, too. You can lay on the south side of 'em in the winter to block the north winds.

Actually, I've done that. Had to crawl up under a pretty tight rock overhang, and gather in LOTS of dry leaves for insulation. It ain't no picnic, but it can be done.

Personally, as long as she could pull her own weight she could join the crew...

But Id be real careful who I chose to have as a lover/ partner. Bigger/ wider/ frumpier ladies are usually better friends...but also a bit more annoying even if your just trying to be nice and friendly (personal experiences). But if I had to choose between a girl I wasnt attracted to and one that I was (and I didnt know either) Id choose the more attractive one. Call it shallow or what have u...but Im being honest.

Im also talking in generalities of course. Undoubtedly, there will be men who take your exact stance.

No doubt... more than anything it will come down to survival of the fittest (in that sit x scenario). But in general the average girl is not equipped to handle the wild on her own. Im not talkin your country girl that learned how to shoot at 5 either. Im talkin your cheerleader/ band/ smarty pants/ american idol watcher/ party girl that makes up 3 outta every 4 girls (and thats a low estimate). That majority will be the ones out lookin to find their caretaker. Id imagine men in their 30s and 40s with good experience will have the cream of the crop pick...until the young stud comes along and picks him off.

It is female "bashing" insofar it's incredibly patronizing and offensive, even though the people probably are not aware of it. They have no idea how humiliating their talk is for them (the men). And it is not realistic AT ALL, except insofar it realistically presents the stsreotypes some men have of women.

To be realistic it would first have to present a realistic and specific scenario, not some vague apocalyptic ambiance based on movies. Because that much is clear, it is based on movies deesigned to scare a popcorn-eating public.

I don't know how old the OP is, but based on the writing I am suspecting not old enough to realize there are millions of women "alone" (without a man in their lives) right now, and many live in dire circumstances. They get by as well or as badly as any man. It all depends on the specific situation and the specific individual.
None of the vague situations presented above could name one single situation that does not have a counterpart today or where a male presence is a moot point. Like those airy-fairy gangs of dangerous men roaming around.... Supposing there were such gangs around, what good would a man (or even two) be in such a situation? If they are so dangerous and violent, then surely he could not do anything for her.

My question, however, would be: why are some people so obssessed with survival in such apocalyptic cirumcstances in the first place? Do they think they'll live forever if they survive that? If not, why is surviving at all costs better than just dying?

Don't laugh at 'em. They've got mad skillz, too, just of a different sort. They're wiley like that, and they don't like bein' laughed at. There's a reason they can twirl daddy around that little finger!

I'd say your right about the percentages, or probably a little low. Most people in America are urbanites, and that sort of woman falls into the urbanite classification. Their "survival skills" are of an entirely different sort, but no less effective when properly deployed. Rather than being forced to kill the mastodon themselves, they wheedle Og into killing it for them, and somehow he thinks he's privileged to do it, and will fight the mastodon bare-knuckles if he has to!

Id imagine men in their 30s and 40s with good experience will have the cream of the crop pick...until the young stud comes along and picks him off.

Luckily, I am far enough over the hill to be immune to those wiles. Rather than picking me off, the young studs who come along will merely point at me and laugh.

They'd better not sleep too soundly after they do, though....

Neither do I. But I did write about the post tsunami events "I think key was that most of those countries don't have aggressive religion/politics and not a huge amount of guns. And as much as I love USA, it is probably one of the top countries for the combo aggressive religon/politics and huge amount of guns. Sprinkle that with racial issues and years of conditioning of how it is crucial to protect what is "MINE", and you have a recipe for even more disaster after the disaster.

I just read lights out today and it got me thinking about women going to get items needed from the store or even if you have to go out into a unsecure area in a SHTF and what extra precautions you might need to take if your at it alone.

How many here have thought about these things or are wishing that they had a male to be that protection or rock in which you can stand in times of trouble?

I've got to admit that I don't even think about SHTF situations, as I'm a very positive thinking person and don't buy into all the doom and gloom stuff. If I'm wrong, then, what will be, will be
