Why must people TRY to turn fiction into NONFICTION

Show me a single credible source. One of a real flesh eating zombie.

I don't have to. It seems this has yet to happen, LOL!

I have a very open mind. Radiation poison kills you. In the history of man not a single person has died from it and awoke a zombie. Please show me I'm wrong.

I seriously don't think that radiation sickness could/would cause selective neuronal death of higher functions.

That's besides the point. It could happen from a variety of other vectors.

Bioengineered terrorism. I think the article mentions that, a variant of rabies.

They woudn't be undead or probably even eat you, but they would chase you down and tear you apart, like the RAGE virus from 28 Days Later.

If it was really base instincts it would be like the Reavers from Serenity/Firefly Tv series: rape you, kill you, eat you, not necessarily in that order either.

This is an article from my recent Gloom and Doom thread.

5 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Apocalypse Could Actually Happen
How it can result in zombies:
Hey, did we mention that half the human population on Earth is infected with toxoplasmosa, and don't know it? Hey, maybe you're one of them. Flip a coin. Oh, also, they've done studies and shown that the infected see a change in their personality and have a higher chance of going bat# insane.

Chances this could cause a zombie apocalypse:
Humans and rats aren't all that different; thats why they use them to test our drugs. All it takes is a more evolved version of toxoplasmosa, one that could to do us what it does to the rats. So, imagine if half the world suddenly had no instinct for self-preservation or rational thought. Even less than they do now, we mean.

Seems to me the duct tape lobbyists are at it again.

for those with weak memories:
hurricanes - duct tape
anthrax scare - duct tape
swine flu - duct tape
zombies - duct tape

But in human history this hasn't ever happened yet? So why would it now. Does the fact that the movie industry created zombies even sway you? or the fact in thousands of years of our history there has been not a single mention of a zombie? lol come on. Guys because they have sites creating theories doesn't mean it's real. Think about how wealthy the owners of that site are? Maybe that was the whole goal. If your making a site you can type any BS you want..If I see one. fine I'll waste it and I'll be a believer. Until then they get filed with Santa Clause

PS Now I do believe in ghosts, well I believe it's possible. And of course we are surrounded by conspiracies. but smaller ones. not ones involving 10, 000 members.

The article isn't saying zombies are real, and half of the discussions on this thread aren't either (at least not Living Dead variations). Most of us got off on a tangent discussing favorite "fiction" about the genre of zombies. However; any of you stating that a virus could never come along and change the minds of thinking humans, and turn them into instinctual killers, then you're in a sad state of denial that I would never hope to be in. There are many diseases that already carry these symptoms, and if a mutation ever happened about (and since viruses change all the time, its possible), and one of these bugs became airborne, you'd definitely see something like a "Zombie Apocalypse". National Geographic had an article some time ago about a possible Rabies/Flu hybrid that could/would fullfill this scenario.

Thats the wonder of genetic engineering.

We have sheep and goats that make spider silk in their milk.

Fish that glow like fireflies.

On a historical note though, the Flagellants during the hell on earth we call the 14th century, exhibited zombie like behaviors. They roamed in large mobs, mutilating themselves, baptising others in blood, and killing people, especially Jews, as they roamed from town to town. The mobs grew in swarms which hasn't been fully explained. Its somewhat like another mob/swarm behavior, spread by eyecontact, from the same century, called the Dancing manias, where people would writhe and contort for days in the streets until death. Psychogenic epidemics are some weird phenomena, and we still don't know what causes them or how they spread.

Most people when they read the word zombie, they instantly think of living dead ,rotting corpses etc.

But there is a different kind of zombie, much older than the ones we see in films.
The original zombies that voodoo sorcerers create. From the little i have read they use some kind of toxin, which shuts down some brain functions and along with hypnotism they control the person.

neurophilosophy.wordpress.com...

en.wikipedia.org...

Since the voodoo priest can do that with a toxin, imagine what modern scientists can do with all the viruses and chemicals at their disposal.

Zombies whether we like it or not are a possibility, but perhaps they are not the way we see them in movies.

Um okay. There is some logic I'm open too. However. Why would these Zombies not attack each other. Why would they band up and go after the unaffected?

Personally. As long as they are alive. And can be killed I don't care. Bring it.

I'm a Marine just back from Afghanistan for the third time, That wouldn't even bother me. I thought they were talking about undead mutants that you have to dice up. Although I do happen to collect real military grade swords and things so....

On a side note. Everyone should own a real military grade sword. Wow are they different from most of the crap out there. It's amazing the balance and technology some era's came up with.

Because base, animal instincts have slight empathy/altruism intact for those which most relate to their selves.

It's entirely logical to be as such.

Even sociopaths have some empathy for each other.

Think: Gangs.

Well I'll continue to be suspiciously alert. Thanks for the information it's really been interesting, No I'm not being sarcastic.

BTW I wouldn't call it a technological achievement whom ever said that. You all take it easy.

Yeah I have a couple of real era swords myself. They're military, but they predate the United States. A couple of them predate England as a monarchy, let alone a Parliametarian Government. Still in grand fashion, too.
As for why one "zombie" wouldn't attack another? Maybe they would, but if the numbers are great enough, or if it spread fast enough, it wouldn't matter. Maybe its like rabies. I can't confirm this, but I've heard local farmers stating that one rabid animal won't mess with another. Maybe they know they're infected, and know its pointless to attack another infected animal. Why pass to something that's already been passed to?

Well to say "it hasnt happened yet" is really only a half truth. There IS some evidence of viruses and protozoans like Toxoplasma gondii infect people and alter personality and perception. What hasnt happened yet is one that re-animates the dead, and/or causes people to want to kill people and eat their brains.

Well from everything i have learned the list of stuff you would need would be great. You will need a semi to hail the stuff to a location like a mail. Second you would need to fortify the base. the top of the building would need to become a greenhouse/ solar panel station #2 Water will become impossible to get so you would have to figure out a system for that using the rain gutters.Doctors are critical to survival, farmers are critical to survival, Guns, bullets and weapons needed. My personal choice of weapons sawed off shot gun with the butt of the gun shaved down so i can hold it with one hand. Real Samurai sword. pipe bombs, and an automatic shotgun. Protection has anyone seen the Hollywood robbers with the full Kevlar suits they made lol swat uses them now and a motorcycle helmet. Semi would need to be outfitted with the front of a train aka cattle pusher think trains from the1800s . Defiantly need to raid a drug store maybe a couple. liquor store raids a must. Containment zones placed in the mall in case of breach. batteries, flashlights, anything else feel free to add.

Perhaps it's just a way to have some fun while helping people get prepared.

You need many of the same things to survive the zombie attack that you would need if there was a natural disaster.

You don't want to run to the store for food when the zombies are chasing you so stock up.
Dito with water and other supplies.

However, if the zombies do attack I would like a good semi-automatic rifle. You don't need that unless you have to fend off looters after a natural disaster.

I recommend a good 556 semi auto-matic with a 100 round beta c-mag and your favorite frangible rounds. Don't forget a duffle bag with extra mags.

100 Round Beta C-Mag for AR-15 .223 systems

Plus a shark suit

and a nice Kukri for close encounters.
